Great hotel with exceptional service!

Yes, the Balmoral is perfectly located in the heart of the city but that alone would have not made it a pleasant stay or memorable. The staff were incredibly helpful. The hotel is well appointed without any air or stuffiness. The room was not only spacious but efficiently arranged and appointed. We felt right at home.

The hotel atmosphere, condition and service keeps you from wanting to even leave to explore the town. Friendly staff members continued to go above and beyond with a smile in order to meet all of my needs. The room was absolutely stunning and in superb condition. I would consider revisiting the city based solely on the thought that I can't wait to stay at this hotel again.

This is a first class hotel with excellent service and in an extremely convenient location. We were met by the shift manager and shown the room and given an explanation of services. The room was spacious and extremely comfortable. We used the concierge to book dinner reservations for 2 nights and obtain tickets to a local attraction. He too was excellent. This is the second Rocco Forte hotel we have stayed in in Europe. Both offer exceptional service and accommodations. We could not have been more pleased..

Excellent location, beautiful hotel, splendid room. Would not recommend Hadrian's restaurant: so-so food, poor service. Unable to get a reservation at One, unfortunately.

Nice old fashioned hotel with wonderful service. Number One ( the restaurant) is fabulous.

Ask for what you want

Our first room assignment had a very soft bed. We requested a different room and were assigned a beautiful room with a new mattress. The Balmoral is a large hotel but they seem to be able to deal with guests as if the hotel was smaller. The Concierges were excellent. We asked for a recommendation for a local restaurant and we were the only travelers there.

Amazing! We loved stepping off the train and then stepping right into our amazing hotel room. Such high ceilings and excellent service! Great concierge staff, scotch bar and right in the middle of everything!

Very nice room. Part of the hotel has been renovated and looks llvely especially the tearoom. The bedroom was very nice as well, the bed comfortable. I thought the ceiling attempts At the reception and entrace hall just an awful attempt to be “camp”. Very unappealing’ bunches of rounded earth or field weeds or wind gatherings. The restaurant very Unappling with ordinary decor and small tables. We did have however a very Tasty dinner with a very nice waiter with whom we had a nice conversation.

This Hotel was actually booked for my son and his fiancé as a gift and they adored it so much. They were made to feel so welcome and loved the ambiance of the Hotel. I have stayed here previously and it was a most beautiful introduction to the Scottish culture. A truly memorable Hotel.

Disappointing. Given the premium room rates I was disappointed to be given the key to a room facing a blank wall of white tiled bricks. The Balmoral location is unique. Edinburgh is a spectacular city and the Balmoral has the best location of any . Was eventually moved to a room in the roof space with not a window - more of a port hole - in the bathroom ! There was a view if you strained hard enough. Thought the Front Desk / Concierge lacked energy. Impersonal and a bit condescending. Maybe they were tired since the Festival had just finished. Best experience was in the 'ONE' restaurant where I hosted a dinner. Excellent food and wines, well served by knowledgeable staff. This is the Fourth Rocco Forte Hotel I have used ( Rome, Florence, London) and the least impressive.

We loved being in the Balmoral. It was centrally located and very comfortable. They were very attentive to our interests and needs. They even helped us send some of our hiking materials back home so that we wouldn’t have to travel with excess gear as we continued with our tour to London and France. We loved how they were right above the train station. Although we did venture out and try some of the local sights and eateries, it would have been entirely possible to stay at the hotel for all our meals, they were that tasty! We would love to return in the future.
