Jumby Bay Island, Oetker Collection

A Private Island Paradise

Jumby Bay Island, Oetker Collection

Since its discovery by Christopher Columbus in 1493, this isolated island of elemental beauty has enchanted seafarers, naturalists, and romantics. Today it is known as Jumby Bay (named after the Antiguan word jumbee, meaning playful spirit), a retreat of rarefied yet relaxed luxury that's just a six-minute boat ride from the coast of Antigua and yet worlds away from the crowds of the Caribbean. It may be for its postcard-perfect beaches, lapped by clean, crystalline waters. Or for its rich biodiversity, including one of the world's primary preserves for hawksbill sea turtles. Or for its intimate, private setting of 300 acres — with no cars, beach vendors or jet skis. Whatever the draw, Jumby Bay is the stuff of dreams. With no hint of urban intrusions, and no indigenous population, this privately owned hideaway has remained largely unchanged for centuries. Nowadays, the entire island — with just 40 exquisitely appointed guest suites and a collection of 35 luxury residences — may as well wear a "Do Not Disturb" sign.

Hotel Tip

Jumby Bay is Antigua's only Forbes Five-Star and a fully inclusive luxury escape. Rates include gourmet meals, cocktails and wines, motorized watersports, snorkel trips, children's program and more.

The service at Jumby Bay, from the initial welcome on the dock through every meal and activity, was impeccable! Every need was not just met, but exceeded. The staff made our 25th Anniversary a dream vacation that we will never forget! We won't wait 25 more years to come back!

Beautiful and unique. The staff is simply wonderful and could not do enough for you and always with a smile. Accommodations private, spacious and comfortable. We stayed in a beachfront cottage with our own patio. Very very nice surroundings. However, we must mention for such an exceptional resort, there does need to be an oversight by management on housecleaning. Was somewhat taken aback by the dirt accumulation on the tops of the drapes, the ceiling fan in the bath and the louver doors. The cocktail table and glass top were also quite messy. The day to day housekeeping was very good. All and all it was a wonderful time. Suggestions on food. Would like to see not just hamburgers on the menu but also turkey burgers, perhaps a tuna fish salad sandwich or club sandwich, whole wheat or multi grain pasta, more non meat choices. Breakfast each morning was fantastic. Loved having my own pot of pressed coffee. Always served with a smile. Truly beautiful resort.
