Hotel Le St. James

The ultimate luxury experience...

Hotel Le St. James

When you hear that the historic Hotel Le St-James offers the most refined stay in Montréal, you can take it to the bank. This former Merchants Bank building, ideally situated in the center of charming Old Town, has been masterfully re-created as a 60-guestroom boutique hotel. Original detailings seamlessly blend with avant-garde stylings and such amenities as goose-down duvets, LCD televisions and iPod docks. The old bank vault has been converted into the stellar Le Spa, where you’ll be transformed before your fresh-market dinner at XO Le Restaurant, the city’s highest-rated dining venue.

Hotel Tip

The XO Le Restaurant serves the best oysters in Montréal, hands down. –Nancy LaFontaine Toronto, Ontario

Extraordinary hotel

Until this summer we had not heard of Le St James and we have been to Montreal many times. The upgrades to a suite are usually automatic and the rooms are extremely comfortable. We have stayed here 3 times in the last 5 months and the staff not only remembers us, but have gone out of their way at all times to make our stays memorable.

Would not recommend

I would not recommend this hotel. The rooms are very dark--hard to see. There is not enough room in the bathrooms for 2 people to get ready in front of a mirror. The bathrooms in the exercise area were not open. Rooms were not available for check-in until after 5:00 pm. And, it with all of that, the hotel was expensive.

Understated Luxury

This hotel epitomizes understated luxury. It is not self-important, and staff do not "put you down" in order to prove what a swell hotel they're running. Just the opposite. Every person we met was cordial, smart, helpful, and cooperating with one another. When my husband needed to scan and send a document, we had at least two people helping him with the concierge. We indulged ourselves in the biggest shower enclosure ever, and luxuriated in the "toile" bedroom. I only wish we could have stayed longer-- but going from the Hotel Le St. James to a Silversea cruise is an exercise in total self-indulgence! THANK YOU!

Warm and competent staff. Walk right onto the cobblestones of Old Montreal and stroll thru the Vieux to the river. Quiet and comfortable. And, yes, TV and minibar.

I already commented earlier in the survey. The facility was lovely but had problems with water temperature and heating in the rooms. For the price charged these problems were disappointing.

Le St. James is a boutique hotel located in a beautifully restored 19th century historic building. The property is luxurious and intimate, with a superbly trained, engaging, and attentive staff. One of the best restaurants in Montreal is located on-site. This is the place to stay in Montreal.

It was wonderful. We were upgraded to a suite which is always great. The bar and restaurant were beautiful, as well as the food. The concierge was very knowledgeable and made some great dinner reservations for us. I would stay there again, especially for the location. It was great to be able to walk to Old Town with all the neat restaurants and shops.

Lovely Charming Hotel in Historical Building

By: Thompson Fam

Reviewed on: 19 Jan 2018

The St James was relaxing and quiet. Charming library on the main level to wait for taxis or to just hang out and read a book by the fire. The dining room serves a delicious breakfast, snack and dinner. Service is a bit slow, however the staff is very friendly and accommodating. The rooms are quaint, decorative, comfortable and clean. The bathrooms are drafty due to old windows, however there is a heater in the bathroom which resolves the problem quickly. The turn down service includes fresh bottles of still water each evening. The vallet and concierge were quick to order a taxi and offer assistance with directions/dinner, etc.
