Hotel Tip

Walk over to Berry Bros & Rudd to purchase a fine bottle of wine. They have been selling everything vinous for several hundred years. –Lucy Butler Los Angeles, California

Wonderful service

The Stafford is a warm, comfortable, inviting hotel AND has a great location -- perfect for the traveler. Service was superb even to the point of making a special dessert for me after mentioning I liked a particular fruit during the breakfast buffet - great attention to detail! Will definitely recommend and use on my next trip to London.

The staff was amazing. Seriously the best service I've ever had. They were extremely attentive and helpful in every way. The lights in the room were a bit confusing and by the end of my stay I was completely annoyed with them. That's really the only negative thing I could possible say. I wish the fireplace in the room worked. At least projected a picture of a fire. Even with the construction going, this hotel was hands down my favorite place! I can't wait to go back and stay longer!!!

I'd say 4 stars not 5. Location is great, check in was not optimal, had to stand up as there were only 3 chairs, not 4 so two couples couldn't check in at the same time. The receptionist didn't even offer to get another chair as I was standing up and my girlfriend was sitting...awkward. Also service was average, not excellent from the restaurant, concierge, etc.

My third stay at the Stafford confirmed my expectation that I would feel welcome and st home, as always. The staff were all very professional, courteous, and helpful. The newly renovated restaurant is lovely and the food excellent. The American bar is fun as ever but the smokers chased me out at dinnertime. Americans are unused to smoking being allowed in restaurants and bars. The hotel's location on a quiet street is a big plus and I will return again.

As we expected from past visits, the Stafford is a wonderful home away from home in London. St James is central to museums, theater, and two parks: St James and Green. The one caveat: too much outdoor smoking from The American Bar causes some guest rooms and generally all the common areas to smell of cigarettes for most of day and into the night. I wish they would address this issue.

I have stayed at the hotel for many years over several owners. In addition, my office was two blocks away when I lived in London in the 80's and I would often meet business associates at the American Bar.

We stayed at the Stafford during our entire trip to London. The location was excellent - an easy walk to the Tube, the theater and pubs. The staff took care of our every need, from theater tickets, pub recommendations and Tube directions. Our room was spotless and well-appointed, the food and service at each breakfast and dinner at the Game Bird room were outstanding, and we enjoyed the ambiance of the American Club for unwinding at the end of the day. The staff was alert to our needs, without being obtrusive - an art they have down pat. We would stay there on our next trip to London.

I will recommend The Stafford to anyone traveling to London. It was quaint, yet sophisticated. The staff called us by name and met all our needs. Having the American Bar on the property was a plus, for winding down after a busy day!
