    Sustainability

    Our Commitment

Soneva Fushi was part of establishing the Baa Atoll UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, which provides our guests exciting opportunities to snorkel with manta rays guided by our marine biologist.

Soneva Fushi became carbon neutral in 2012, for both its direct and indirect resort operations including guest flights. We have installed 700kWp solar PV that covers electricity needs during the day.

90% of Soneva Fushi’s total waste is recycled through its Eco Centro Waste-to-Wealth programme. All of our food waste is composted and the fertile soil produced is reused in the garden to produce vegetables that our chefs turn into tasty meals for our guests. We also set up the Soneva Glass Studio. Here, our skilled glass artists turn glass into usable glassware and art.

Soneva Namoona is our flagship project which brings plastic use reduction, recycling, ocean stewardship and environmental education under one umbrella. Namoona, which means ‘exemplary’ in Dhivehi the language of the Maldives, is what we are trying to achieve in this partnership with local islands. So far we have managed to help our neighbouring island Maalhos stop open burning of waste.
