Micato is simply the BEST. From the time we decided to book our trip, we started receiving first class treatment, and enticing videos and safari related reading to prepare us for the trip to heighten our excitement. Then, we are immediately greeted upon landing with a friendly face and gently guided and taken care of from then on. First class treatment the whole way. Wow! The staff and care we received throughout the whole safari from camp to camp were first rate and exceptional - each camp boasted something unique and special to offer, including the food! It is hard to pick a favorite camp or one experience since each part of the experience offered so much to enjoy. Henry Kago, our guide, was extremely knowledgeable, patient, fun, and funny! Our drivers, Gipson, Joseph, Ola, and Arnold were patient, knowledgeable, and skilled at traversing some tough road conditions. Thank you to all who helped make this a memorable trip! We are definitely planning our next safari.

The guides, porters, and others that we deal with from Micato were very helpful and everyone was very nice. It would have been very helpful if we had been informed to be prepared for the effects of the high altitudes in Kenya and Tanzania, and especially in Rwanda, and the rough roads we would be traveling on the safari, all of which was very exhausting.

This was a trip of a lifetime. Micato Safaris did everything in their power to make sure we were safe and having a great time. Our accommodations were over the top with the exception of one camp which was still very nice. Our tour director was always available and our guides were fabulous. Needless to say, we had a wonderful trip.

Micato is door to door service. There was a Micato employee to meet us before we reached customs in Africa - all the way to dropping us off in customs prior to our departure from Africa.
The safari was beyond belief. Every location, every bush plane flight accompanied by a Safari Director and met by a driver, dedicated to meeting your every need. It seemed that at every location when they knew we were with Micato, they treated us that much better.
And... to be met in Nairobi by the owner of the company, thanking us for choosing Micato... can I say more?
If you want to safari in Africa... choose Micato. You will NOT be disappointed!!!

This trip was amazing and our tour director Rodgers Rafiki was absolutely the best! He was prepared and funny and the drivers were wonderful. We got to see so many animals and it was baby season! It was educational and the accommodations were excellent and food was unexpectedly delicious.

The “Lodges” were so beautiful, the food delicious and the service impeccable.

My sister and I just completed our fourth safari with Micato -- so that should say it all. Quite simply, they are the best. From the moment we were met at the airport, before we even cleared immigration/customs, to the moment we departed many days later, they had our backs. Their safari directors and guides have an astonishing range of knowledge about the animals, the birds, the vegetation. the customs, and the cultures, and if we occasionally asked a question that stumped them, it wasn't for long. More importantly, they listened, and responded, so that every member of the group felt cared for and valued, and somehow still managed to exceed our collective expectations. Should we be lucky enough to go again, it will only be with Micato.

This was our first trip with Micato and to say they didn’t disappoint would be an understatement!!! Our Tour Director, Lucia, was amazing. The depth and breath of her knowledge was remarkable. She was also kind, sweet and fun to spend time with on our journey. From our extended tour in Cape Town to our safari through three countries we had amazing hotels, lodges, food, sights , drivers, surprises and local guides, Micato was a wonderful choice to see Southern Africa.

Simply our best vacation ever. Very high level of service and expertise. They simply take care of everything. Get you from the gate thru customs quickly. Safari Directors met us at the airport and drove us to the Fairmont. Bags are taken to your room and to the transfer vehicles every time. Fun field lunches and happy hours. Our two safari directors, Bless and George were very very knowledgeable. Concierge at the Fairmont, Eve, was the best. Had a 24 hour concierge hot line. Accommodations were top notch. Food was very good. We saw more animals than we thought possible. The driver guides and Safari directors know how to find them. We saw 4 of the big 5 on our first game drive. They are worth the premium.

We've been on lots of trips and Micato's Grand Safari delivered a level of service and African wildlife that set the bar for us at a whole new level. We were on a safari of 11 and everyone was given the royal treatment. From lodging to transportation to food and drink, it was extraordinary. And then there was the wildlife; two leopards, dozens of lions and rhinos, hundreds of elephants, giraffes, cape buffalo, warthogs and ostriches and thousands of zebras and antelopes of every kind. And our Safari Director, Jockie made sure everything ran exactly to our liking. If you're considering an African safari with Micato, we give it our highest recommendation!

I just completed a three week Micato trip in Africa. Five days in Cape Town and one in Jo-burg followed by Micatos Grand Safari with 2 weeks in Kenya and Tanzania. Lodging, food, guides, drivers and daily plans were incredible. It’s an expensive tour company but I felt it was well worth the expense. Our guide “Hind” during the Cape Town and Jo- burg experience was unbelievably knowledgeable and customer centric. We even got a surprise helicopter ride over CT the first morning. Sammi was our guide for the Grand Safari portion. He too was very client focused and conveyed his deep knowledge of the animals and cultures. World class is all I can say about Micato. They even exceeded my very high expectations.

WOW!!! Where do we start? Micato has been a wonderful company to work with. When they say all inclusive, they mean everything! From picking us up in the wee hours of the morning at the airport, to fast tracking us through customs/immigration, to making sure every location was aware we were celebrating our 45th wedding anniversary; nothing was too much to ask for. The lodges/hotels they use have all been top notch, our 3 Safari Directors (Wesley for the Hemmingway/Emmanuel for Tanzania/Leza for Zimbabwe) were all professional, knowledgeable and a blast to be with. Shamala, our concierge in Johannesburg left nothing to chance and made sure everything went smoothly for our return home. We are already looking forward to celebrating our 50th anniversary with Micato.

We chose carefully to find the best African Tour company that we believed would provide the best, stand behind its product and not offer lame excuses. Micato proved its excellence in every way, including acknowledging an error and standing behind its well earned reputation to make it right. Not all would do that, as we all know from experience. Micto has a reputation for extraordinary service which is well deserved. We chose the Grand Safari and secretly thought that it really wouldn't fully justify the name or the price but were pleasantly proved wrong. We were greeted by Jane and Felix Pinto, company founders at the start and end of the trip who made us feel a part of their family. Every effort was made to make the experience comfortable, luxurious and magical and all of our needs were anticipated. They even showed up with a birthday gift for me when I had forgotten all about the date! The guides are charming and knowledgable about animals, history, culture, politics - you name it. The drivers were magicians at anticipating animal behavior and getting us to just the right spot to see just the right animals. We've since met other Micto travelers whom we were pleased to note have had similar experiences. Don't go to Africa with anyone but Micato.

Everything from the moment we were picked up in Capetown, to the end of our trip in Nairobi was top rate. The guides and drivers were exceptional, the hotels were fabulous. We really felt spoiled by the way we were treated. The only downside had to do with sending our bags home that we weren't going to use on the 18 day safari - one of the five bags never made it out of South Africa. DHL has no idea what happened to it.

We recently completed our Micato Safari. We spent 13 days in Kenya and Tanzania. In short, the trip was perfect. Starting with our Nairobi Airport greeting by Micato (Salma). She raced us through customs where we were picked up in a Micato Land Cruiser and delivered to our hotel where we were met by Micato Concierge Virginia. She seamlessly checked us into our Nairobi hotel. Then we met Phillip, our Safari Guide. Phillip was top notch and made sure we had a fantastic time including a delicious lunch at the home of the Pintos (founders and owners of Micato). there is an incredible amount of detail that goes into the planning and execution of a African Safari. Phillip made it look easy (although we know he was working hard to make our experience perfect). If we decide to go back to Africa (or visit India), there is only one Safari company we'd use and that's Micato.

This company is absolutely outstanding. They thought or and took care of every detail. Once we landed in Kenya they took over with a team of advisors, guides and helpers. Tour was well planned and the so-called camp sites (really hotel-like) were top of the line. The people that work for Micato are incredibly nice, friendly and helpful. The tours guides are very knowledgeable. All speak excellent English. One detail to remember is that you travel with other people and they can enhance or be a negative. We were lucky we had a good group, but I could see how it would be a downer to travel with other types of people.

Micato is a top notch tour operator. This was our second trip with them but the first where we took our family along with us. Managing seven people, three of whom were children, requires patience and perseverance. From the greeters at the various airports, to Sue who led us at Victoria Falls, and Hein who traveled with us throughout, our trip was wonderful. One suggestion would be to train the bartenders in the various camps how to make drinks and to have a more upgraded and better selection of wines and liquors. Other than that, not much to complain about. We were happy campers!

There are vacations that inform and open the mind and even those that give joy. But the Micato Safari that we experienced touched the soul. It was a unique and once in a life time experience to observe the wildlife of Africa and we shall probably never experience anything like it again. What raised the experience to a much higher level was first the attention given to us by the Micato staff. Never have we experience such dedicated individuals to providing an incredible experience. The staff expressed how much they enjoyed their jobs and this was reflected time and time again in the service they provided. There are no words to describe them. It was also the quality of lodging each night and the service provided that helped after a full day of bouncing on paths that were roads in name only. Mr. and Mrs. Pinto, owners of Micato, were such delightful people. Many more words of praise could be said but the word count is limited.

From start to finish, Micato is the best touring company we've encountered in 15 years of world travel. The Safari Director and guide (George Meyer) and vehicle drivers had a vast knowledge of both flora and fauna along with eagle eyes to spot items of interest. The arrangements for flights, lodging, sundowners, food, and incidentals was impeccably arranged. Micato Safaris also arranged for our travel and lodging to Livingston, Zambia, with special experiences at Victoria Falls, and further to Cape Town, South Africa, for few days of tours in the area. This was a trip of a lifetime!

We had excellent service in each place but the office communication was sloppy. They sent the wrong itinerary and we were constantly confused about what we were doing each day. Nothing disasterous happened but there was constant confusion. Very surprised at this since Micato has such a top notch reputation.

Micato Safaris is truly one of the best safari tour operators. This is second time I have taken Micato safaris to Kenya and Tanzania and loved every minute. The accommodations were great; drivers and guides were always knowledgeable, personable and accommodating. Additionally the Pinto Family was there to great us on arrival, provided us with a great lunch and bade us farewell upon departure.

Our trip to Africa with Micato exceeded our expectations, which, given the detailed itinerary, were very high. I cannot speak highly enough of every aspect of our visit, from being met plane side in Jo'burg to make our connection to Cape Town, the wonderful and knowledgeable guides, drivers, concierges who really went out of their way to make our visit memorable. The attention to detail and the efficient way a medical emergency was dealt with was credit to the company. We are seasoned travellers, experienced in all levels of travel. Micato is the best company we have ever dealt with, expensive but truly value for money.

This was our fourth time to Africa and our first trip with Micato Safaris. We were a party of 6 who took the Luxury Splendor Tour including South Africa, Kenya, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Tanzania. Everyone from Micato was extremely professional, knowledgeable about their area of expertise, friendly, kept us fully informed and interested in making sure that we were having a good time and all was well getting to inter-continental flights to and from locations and driving us around. Any issues were taken care of immediately which were few and small. The accommodations all excellent and the employees there all friendly and accommodating. Our guides were excellent!!! We were also afforded the opportunity to meet the Pinto's who started the company and continue to be involved with their son and daughter-in-law. What a treat and they are a really gracious and engaging couple. I would not hesitate to take another Micato Tour!!

We have just returned from a 3 week trip to South Africa and East Africa with Micato Safaris. Our travel Advisor recommended Micato and it was an Amazing Experience from start to finish. The guides truly cared about us, attended to all of our needs and nothing was ever a problem for them. We started planning our tour 18 months before it began and because of how complicated the Visa situation can be, they took us step by step through the process. We stayed in the finest places whether a six star hotel or a six star tented camp and everywhere we went we were “wowed”. I think it was also very important that the same guide Dennis Simi stayed with us on our entire trip because we got to know each other and he just really made us so comfortable. We were especially excited to meet Micato owners Felix and Jane Pinto, who went out of their way to meet us at an airport in Kenya just to say hi and see how we were enjoying our trip. India with Micato next year and of course it will be perfect!!!

Jane Pinto hosted us for lunch at her home the first day of our journey. A very nice, warm way to begin. The itinerary was perfect with each day filled with different sights and adventures. The Fairmont Norfolk, Fairmont Mara and Virunga Lodge were wonderful. Can’t say the same for the Sopa lodges. Tired, worn and not at all in keeping with a luxury safari. All went well until I was dropped at the wrong air terminal in Nairobi for my flight to Kigali at 3:00am. I managed to make my flight by running across the parking lot with my luggage to the correct terminal. Upon arrival in Kigali there was no one to meet me. Took about 45 minutes of my being alone in a strange airport to get someone to pick me up. Being a solo elderly female traveler in a foreign country, this was pretty disconcerting. I have no idea how that could have happened, as that is why I chose a reputable tour company. The tour director, Tim, did call and apologize. Great trip otherwise.

I would definitely recommend Micato Safari travel. They are definitely the best when it comes to Safaris. Everything is first class. They do everything to make sure your safari is a success using the best Tour Directors and Driver/Guides. The Pinto family takes personal interest in everyones travel to make sure they exceed your expectations. The national parks they go to are the best in the world and the lodges are five star all the way.

When we decided to go on a safari, our first stop was to Tracy Hughes at Stellar Travel. She highly recommended a Micato Safari. We went in early December 2019. Micato took care of every detail. It turned out that we were the only 2 people on our safari, so needless to say we were totally taken care of. Micato promises to never cancel your itinerary. Our safari director, Sammy, was there from the time we arrived at the Nairobi airport until we left. He took care of every detail. He was so friendly and so knowledgeable about the animals and we had many great discussions about life in East Africa. The itinerary gave us a wonderful experience and we saw all the animals we had hoped to see and even more. The accommodations, service, and food at all the places we stayed were top notch. Meeting Jane & Felix Pinto and having lunch at their home, just shows the personal care they feel towards every person on a Micato safari. Their leadership in that area, shows with all their employees.

Wonderful surprises at every turn. Superlative accommodations. Personable, knowledgeable and enthusiastic Safari director and drivers guides. High-end treatment throughout—I had ultra high expectations and Micato exceeded them in very way. Their choice of Safari camps was perfect—luxury like I’ve never experienced. Micato Safaris delivers an outstanding African adventure. My itinerary included South Africa from Cape Town to the wine country, Zimbabwe and Victoria Falls and tracking the mountain gorillas in Rwanda. This was our 3rd safari vacation with Micato and I'd book with them again in a heartbeat. They met us when we got off the plane in Johannesburg and took care of our every need and concern until we reboarded 16 days later. Every detail was carried out to perfection. The hotels, meals, amenities, staff at every level --all were top of the line. And their precautions during Covid were impeccable. We were tested 3 times during our trip as we crossed various borders, all of which were orchestrated by Micato, staff was masked throughout, and sanitizer was constantly and consistently available. Thanks to their efforts and those of our various hotels and camps, we didn't have a minute of concern for our health.

Absolutely the best. I traveled during Covid in June/July 2021. We were tested many times during the Safari before we had to fly across borders between Kenya and Tanzania, and eventually out of Kenya. The testing was smooth. The trip was fantastic! The accommodations were wonderful. The guides were the best you could ask for! It was a trip of a lifetime!

Our experience with Micato was amazing. From the moment we arrived in South Africa we did not have to worry about one thing. It was just to enjoy ourselves and the trip was built around us and was able to be easily modified upon our request. Our Guide Brian Nel was spectacular and we really enjoyed our time spent with him. Sulaman (spelling?) was also amazing. We felt like we were part of the family every where we went and it was a truly special experience. I wish we could go back tomorrow and replay it all!

That is how you are treated (just like family) and it leaves no question that Micato is the number one safari company. Our safari directors were on point, all the time. They made certain that anything we needed was provided, any requests skillfully handled. They gently kept us on track time wise and you feel well taken care of by them. I can’t say enough about Wilbard and Denis and their dedication, knowledge, and genuine caring for us.

Micato is the ne plus ultra of safari companies. We did the Passage thru Botswana,Zambia and Zimbabwe with Cape Town extension. All hotels, meals (except one lunch in Jo'burg), tips, flights within Africa, transfers to lodges are included. All the camp lodges were wonderful, with incredible guide staff. We saw far more than we ever expected. The animals come very close to the tents. If you are noise sensitive, bring earplugs. Hippos are loud!! In Cape Town, Micato booked us into superb restaurants, drove us there and picked us up. Meal and tip were all paid for as part of the package.
We stayed at the One&Only on the V&A waterfront with magnificent view of Table Mountain. Every moment from start to finish was a thrill.

We scheduled our safari with Micato because we heard it was the best. They did a great job with the guide we were given. He was very knowledgeable and helpful to everyone in our group. We were not happy with several of the lodges and some of the food they served. Service at each lodge was excellent. Micato gave us huge heavy luggage. Then we were told that we were limited on weight. Everyone in our group complained about that. Not a good start. We knew the tour we chose had a lot of movement, but it was very tiring to only stay at a lodge for 2 nights then have to move. Some changes might need to be made. Also, one lodge had MANY stairs. Difficult for some people who are older.

Amazing trip! Exhausting, but amazing! The only negative is that Micato really needs to rethink the duffle bags they provide. They are way too big and too heavy when empty (8 lbs empty), which cuts into the strict weight limit on the bush planes. You can't fill the bags becuase of the limited weight, so everything falls to the bottom when the bags are stood up on their wheels. We saw other safari companies that provided much more practical bags (smaller bags without wheels). But otherwise, Micato is great and we would use them again. Our Safari Director, Kennedy, was incredible, as well as our Safari Concierge, Purity. I was so sad to leave them because they felt like family by the end of our trip.

Our whole trip went off without a hitch. Micato has high standards for the accommodations that they use and every place we stayed was wonderful. We were well fed and well attended to for our entire trip. Our safari director stayed with us the whole time and made sure all plans were just so. Micato Safaris is the only way to go!!

This is our second trip with Micato. They have great people in the countries where we visited in Africa which includes Kenya and Tanzania in 2017 and Botswana and Zimbabwe in 2023. Everyone we ran into was extremely customer service oriented wanting to make sure we had a great experience. It is wonderful to go on a vacation to such a remote part of the world and not have to worry about anything except for having a fun time.

To start w the positive, we had great drivers who really knew what they were doing. We were met at all airports by lovely people. I loved the visit to the nonprofit in Nairobi. We had a great leader in Victoria falls and at the airport. As for the negatives, the pacing of the trip wasn’t right. Too many short visits (one or two nights). One day we spent eight hours in the jeep! The hotels could have been better quality. Our safari leader was not oferly helpful and seemed tired of his work .

Our travel agent, Sue Morley, told us Micato is the best. We couldn't agree more. From the moment we arrived until the farewell at the Nairobi airport, Micato delighted us at every turn. Our guide, Lou, who accompanied us to 3 different camps, couldn't have been nicer, more accommodating or more knowledgable. The special events -dining under the stars, a surprise, gorgeous breakfast spread in the bush, sunset cocktails with lawn games- made the trip extra special and memorable. And it was an honor to meet the founder, Mrs. Pinto, and to see the impactful work this company is doing to improve lives in Mukuru.

This trip was an experience of a lifetime. Micato’s staff was phenomenal and we will recommend their company to anyone who may be interested or planning a safari. Our Safari Director, Lewela was with us throughout the whole safari and was incredible. I can’t imagine anyone providing a higher level of quality services. He was the epitome of professionalism. We were also impressed that Mrs. Pinto came to meet us at the beginning of our safari, welcoming us to Africa and wishing us well on our journey.

This was one fantastic trip. My wife and I couldn't be happier about how professional everyone at Micato was. From the moment we landed to the time we left we never touched a bag. The Safari drivers and the Safari Director(No Leopard George) were fantastic. George did get his moniker removed on the last day:) The only issue we had involved the Yellow Fever vaccinations. My wife and I are over 60 and my doctor was adamant that I not get the vaccination. Our county Health Department also recommends people over 60 not get the vaccination. We got letters from the Dr's and Health Dept. stating why we shouldn't get the vaccination. It turned out that we were never asked for our vaccination info at any of the border stops. That was the only issue on the Safari. I would recommend Micato and my Travel Advisor to any of my friends.

For all of its 60 years in business, Micato Safaris has been a steward of Africa’s delicate ecosystem – scrutinizing its environmental footprint in game reserves, using safari lodges with exceptional conservation practices, and educating their travellers in Africa’s rich cultural traditions.
In a broader sense, however, Micato believes that the most powerful tool for sustainable change in Africa is education.
To that end, in 1986, Micato employee Lorna Macleod founded AmericaShare, which directs the charitable work of Micato Safaris. Today AmericaShare, with Macleod as its executive director, is dedicated to improving lives through education, focusing on the vulnerable and impoverished women and children in the Mukuru slum of Nairobi, Kenya whose lives have been impacted by the HIV/AIDS pandemic.
Among Micato-AmericaShare’s core initiatives:
The Micato One for One Commitment, through which Micato sends a child to school for every guest on safari;
A School Sponsorship Programme, which matches deserving African students with Micato travellers and advisors, who sponsor the students in boarding school;
While on safari, Micato East Africa guests visit the Harambee Community Centre, with a lending library and computer centre, South Africa travelers spend time at the Red Hill Library and Community Centre.
Micato is also a major donor and supporter of Huru International, which manufactures reusable sanitary pads that have been distributed to more than 200,000 girls in Africa.
