Sigrid recommended Charleston Place for our long weekend. We had stayed many times in Charleston but never there. She arranged a beautiful suite that far exceeded our expectations. The staff at the hotel were friendly and accommodating. We would definitely return.

Enjoyed a wonderful family reunion at the newly renovated Belmond Charleston Place. Service always warm and sincere. Always feel we get our full value. Can't wait to return. Only wish the gym was updated too so we could work off a few lbs!

We were very disappointed with our stay at Charleston Place, mostly because of the problems we had at check-in. The rooms we had requested - a junior suite with a connecting double - "were not available". We ended up with two regular rooms down the hall from each other. They also tried to charge us for premium rooms (the ones that have been remodeled), which ours were not, which necessitated another long conversation at the front desk. Also, the gifts from our travel agent were not delivered until late the night before we left - pretty much a waste as we did not have time to enjoy them. All in all, not the service we expected from this hotel. We won't return.
Lovely hotel, bill questionable.

Our stay at the Belmond Charleston Place Hotel last week was lovely. The hotel accommodations were superb, but I was very surprised and disappointed with our bill upon checkout. There were three of us. I had requested a single room for me and a double room for my daughter and granddaughter. We were there only three nights, and our bill was over $4,000. Virtuoso upgraded us to suites, gave us $100. per room credit and $32.00 per room daily for breakfast. All of this was lovely and greatly appreciated and enjoyed. We had dinner at the hotel one night, breakfasts each day, house drinks one night in the cocktail lounge, and very little room service requests. Even with the lovely Virtuoso supplements, our bill exceeded $4,000. I thought that this amount was high.

Most amazing hotel, incredible lobby, staff are extremely helpful, Palmetto Breakfast was delicious, great choices, the Thoroughbred bar had wonderful Tapas, service, seating. Pool is beautiful, location connects to both Meeting Street and King Street directly, Market Sheds at corner, walking distance of all major highlights. Room was very well designed, with all amenities and service that was impeccable.

Beautiful rooms, lobby, etc. This is coming from a self admitted hotel snob. There was a mixup with our rooms, and the hotel very generously made up for it.

The Belmond is trying to give a ritz or st. Regis type experience in Charleston. It has a nice location with good food and high end shopping in the hotel. The only problem is that the staff is not trained like a Ritz staff. As good as it looks the care from the staff ruined it.

Our stay at the Belmond Charleston Place was highly enjoyable. The staff was extremely professional and attentive. The food at breakfast and in the Charleston Grill was excellent. This hotel sets the standard for service. The Belmond is in an ideal location for exploring Charleston. Its facilities are clean and comfortable. The pool offered a much needed cool-down. We particularly enjoyed the abundant towels in the bathroom! I would return to the Belmond in Charlseton and am eager to explore other Belmond properties.

I would recommend the Belmond Charleston. It's not a perfect 5-star and it's pricey - but it's the #1 pick in downtown Charleston all things considered. (1) LOCATION: A+. Perfect location on Meeting Street - walkable to everything. (2) ROOMS: A+. Gorgeous updated French decor, perfect linens, a modern marble bathroom, etc. (2) SERVICE: Sometimes an A (really nice staff for the most part, accommodated a super early check-in, etc.); other times a C+. Fell short vs. Four Seasons. (3) DINING: * PALMETTO CAFE. A+. Slightly spendy, but worth it. * CHARLESTON GRILL. B-. Nice elegant vibe, but over-priced and subpar food. (4) SPA. B-. Mediocre and over-priced. (5) CLUB LEVEL: A+. Because of Vivien Rethazy and Virtuoso, we lucked out with a Club Level upgrade. Free upgrade aside, the Club Level is worth the extra expense if you can swing it. It’s upscale and friendly with abundant offerings all day - you can get full off of what is served. The Belmond is great; best in Charleston.
