We wanted to experience as much as we could of Cuba and this cruise was perfect. There were 3 Cuban stops and we were able to enjoy so much of the country with different focuses. The ship was fantastic. Having cruised on bigger ships with more passengers our trip with Azamara was much more enjoyable - no crowding, the feeling of being special and hot food at every meal (even with the buffet). We loved our trip

As with other ships I've been on, bathroom was small and uncomfortable, especially for my 6'4" husband.

This was our first time with Azamara and also the smallest ship we had ever been on. It was so much more relaxing than the bigger ships. Activities during sea days were of the quiet kind with brain games, a few lectures, and quiet music. I think the ship could probably do without the casino and the lame art stuff. The food was excellent in the dining room, buffet area and patio area. There was also a little coffee area that we didn't have time to visit. Azamazing evening event was terrific and we had a great time at the "white night" party. Plan ahead for that one because it was really a nice event. These two things are definitely something you can only do on a small ship, so we say, "GO FOR IT"!

A fabulous adventure to Cuba on Azamara Journey. What a wonderful learning opportunity- from an educational, socioligical, humanitarian and political point of view. Any trip that you can experience and come home with a greater sense of awareness, understanding and empathy is truly a winner. Cuba was it, and the intimacy of a smaller cruise ship with a commitment to superior customer service just made the adventure that much more special.

The food was great, and their wine selection each day was nice. Their complimentary drink list is extensive. Service is excellent. The rooms are small, but you really don’t spend that much time there. We did enjoy our balcony on some day-especially the days at sea. The ports were very nice-several smaller ports. We have tried the specialty restaurants as well but the main restaurant is that’s all we really needed, it was actually better, every night presenting a different nationality theme together with the most requested dishes. I had upgraded my drink package and it was not needed, in fact I did not use it at all. That was the only disappointment I had on this cruise, even though I had upgraded my drink plan I had to pay extra for Baileys and Port wines, only included in the highest package. The excursions were very well organized and the onboard entertainment was very vast: a lot of amazing musicians were playing and singing around the ship until late hours. This was my 8th or 9th cruise with Azamara, and the Journey and the Quest have become my favorite ships because of the smaller size, the friendliness and great service from the staff, fine food, excellent lecturers, longer stays in port, and many included items.  On the Journey March 17th sailing, I thought the event in Manila was handled poorly, though.  Should go back to the party held there in 2012.  Afternoon programming on sea days should be revamped, and on some days the 2 lecturers were scheduled in the same 2 hour period.  It was difficult to find the recordings of the lecturers should one miss them.  Solos table at dinner in the dining room is a good idea.  The high cost of travelling single will cause me to book fewer trips in the future, though.

All of the above you and all your  people do very well. Now tthe problem:  You advertised this particular sailing as Tapas and Wine.  You had plenty of wine but only one night of limited tapas.  We were expecting to have a different assortment of tapas every night to go along with the differnt wines.  We as well as some people we met on the cruise thought this was a huge misrepresentation and disapointment.

We had a wonderful time. First experience on Azamara and would definitely choose them again. We love the small ships and this is one of the reasons that we chose them. The itinerary was wonderful. We called it the rainbow cruise as we had rain storms many times so saw many rainbows - multiple in some days. We didn't let the rain dampen our spirits and toured about even when we were wet. The Canary Islands were very interesting - we visited 4 islands and each one was different. We had been in Madeira once before but there were still many things that we had not seen the last time. The Azamazing Evening was so cool - couldn't imagine this on bigger ship. Nice to try local food and see the culture. Enjoyed our time in Gibraltar. Liked that the dancers and singers were on the cruise staff and involved in the games/trivia. They were all so friendly. Food and service as great. Nice to not have to pay for tips and drinks.

Our second time to cruise Azamara, and not our last. We cruised from Venice to Adriatic (Croatia and Montenegro) then to Greek Isles. (Crete, Santorini, Hydra and Naufplion) ending in Athens. What we love about Azamara was the small, intimate nature of these ships. You can be as quiet, or "party" as much as you want. The food is good, especially in the two specialty restaurants. We did a special "Chef's Table" which is a small (10 people) wine pairing dinner. It was great! We had French, but they had Italian and California options, too. Service is great, and were amazed that they all remembered our names- from room staff to restaurant, and bars. The other thing about Azamara is their small size allows them to go places that others cannot get to. In Split the ship went right up to the city dock, while the other large ship had to tender. A highlight was their "Azamazing" evening- a private cello concert in the old city of Dubrovnik. It was amazing! Already booked again!

When we were unable to dock at two ports, they provided appropriate transportation at the next ports so we were able to experience the area. In some cases we even saw more than we would have otherwise. Also, their AZamazing evening was just that, and the elaborate "French Night" buffet on deck was just one more example of the extras that always surprise and delight us. And can there be a more wonderful, friendly crew and staff at sea! Since we were sailing when the powerful hurricane struck Florida, AZ offered complimentary phone service to anyone with family and friends who may have been affected. But: - disturbing engine noise - disturbing noise from deck 9 - air conditioner blowing directly into my face when lying in. bed ( no option to switch off even when windows open ) Besides this: staff very friendly, food good. Excursions partially badly organised.

Azamara Journey

Reviewed on: 23 Dec 2018

We enjoyed our second cruise with Azamara, though the port intensive nature of the itinerary (Intensive Cuba) left relatively little time to fully enjoy the ship. The food was consistently excellent, particularly in the specialty restaurants, which we were able to enjoy twice each. It was disappointing, however, that the main dining room was open for lunch only twice for the entire cruise. Another complaint is the lack of service in ALL bar areas and lounges, including the pool. On the plus side, our butler (Alfy) was one of the best we've ever had, and the cabin stewards were outstanding. I do wish that Azamara would adopt Regent Seven Seas' model of a truly ALL inclusive experience, including beverages, shore excursions and airfare.

Azamara focuses on what they call a family feeling. We were initially surprised by how many Azamara cruises our fellow travelers had taken, then we discovered why. High quality food, passenger care, friendly surroundings, and NO nickel and diming found on so many cruise lines. Thoughtful treats were offered by poolside, and staff who remembered our preferences. Great service and style.

Azamara does most things right

If you prefer smaller ships Azamara cruise ships provide all the benefits of sailing with about 700 passengers. The Az Journey was clean and well maintained. Staff and crew are incredibly friendly and helpful. Food was very good in all regular and specialty dining venues. For a 10-14 day cruise you won’t be disappointed. The Azamara approach to evening entertainment is a letdown somewhat. Our recent voyage on the Journey from the piano player in the bar, the trio in one of the cocktail bars, the guest performers to the entertainment singing and dancing staff were lesser quality than the performers found on Celebrity or RC. One exception, Cruise director and her assistant were very good, better than the professionals hired to entertain.

My first time on Azamara. Not likely to go on it again. The good: The staff was first rate. We had a butler for the first time as well as a cabin attendant. They took care of our every need. The dining room wait staff and sommelier were also excellent. The buffet was typical but I especially enjoyed the specialty restaurants. The bad: An excursion through the ship was unpleasant. This was a tour of a winery. The wine tour was just okay but ended badly. I would have thought that the tour operator would return us to the place just outside the ship where the group got on the tour bus. Instead, we were dropped off quite a distance away and had to walk through a bazaar. I am mobility impaired. When I asked to be taken back to our pick up point, my request was refused. The excuse was the port authority required that our tour end a distance away requiring a very long walk through the bazaar. And it was extremely hot. My complaint was brushed aside.

We did love the small ship experience. The cabin was small but clean and the beds are super comfortable. The carpet needs replacing and the shower was really tight but that did not stop us from having a wonderful trip. We loved our itinerary which is why we chose this cruise. We were thrilled we could stay in the ports longer which afforded us more time to explore the different areas we visited and we did not feel rushed. The food on board was better than most ships that we have been on. The food quality seemed to be better than on some of the larger ships. However, they had a really hard time keeping the food warm. I think they could really improve on this because no one likes to eat cold meats in my opinion and the meat was never truly hot. I found myself not eating the meat as a result of this. They had several deck parties where we ate on the pool deck and this was a lovely experience.

Cruising the Adriatic Sea and all the countries that border it

Amazing and wonderful. The crew was always attentive, polite, and there to take care of anything requested, or sometimes, not requested. The crew always seemed to know exactly when we needed some service. (Example: There was not a hot hair blow dryer in my room, so after asking Raymond, (who tended my room), very soon after asking, he returned with what I needed. I loved the size of the ship, the fact that it could enter ports other larger ships could not, and that it was not geared for children. The evening entertainment was always fun, and I especially enjoyed the "White Night Party"where all the passengers wore white and we celebrated the crew with them descending down the upper deck steps, each carrying the flags that represented their country. There was dancing, laughing, and just pure enjoyment that evening. (The meals were each carefully planned, different each evening, and were all delicious.) I would absolutely cruise with Azamara again.
