Sustainability

Our Commitment

We welcome travelers with an invitation to Mālama Hawai‘i. Simply put, mālama means to take care – of our earth, each other and ourselves. By doing so, visitors will experience a deeper connection and a stay that really stays with you.

The Hawai‘i Tourism Authority, in partnership with a statewide alliance of private industry partners including hotels, and activity and volunteer organizations, are coming together with an initiative to encourage mindful and, ultimately, regenerative tourism by giving travelers an opportunity to stay an extra day at no charge if they participate in a voluntourism activity.

Hotel partners across the state are offering volunteer projects ranging from reforestation projects and tree planting to self-directed beach clean ups and Hawaiian quilting sessions. By booking a Mālama Hawai‘i package and participating in the hotel’s designated volunteer activity, you’ll qualify for a special discount or even a free night.

A full list of current partners can be found: gohawaii.com/malama.

Working side by side with residents and other travelers will be an enriching experience that allows travelers to connect with our residents to perpetuate the cultural and natural beauty of our island state, all while helping regenerate the destination.
