A great Piedmonte trip

I recently returned from a 6 day bicycle trip to the Piedmont region of Italy arranged and led through Backroads. This is my 10th Backroads trip,and one of my best. It has been my experience, with over 20 active vacations in the last 10 years, that the leaders and the fellow travelers make 70% of the trip. I have become confident that Backroads offers a consistently well thought out trip (with only 1-2 exceptions). This one, however, was a major winner. Go on it!!

This was out second Backroads trip and it was great. We spent time in the Andes of Ecuador and then on the Galapagos. There were 8 guests and one guide. Loved the contract between the mountains and the tropical climate of the islands. The Andes were a pleasant surprise for us--beautiful, great food and great accommodations.

An Incredible Trip with Backroads - Again

This is our 5th trip with Backroads and 2nd family trip. They provided the usual very reliable and outstanding experience. Our biking guide Nick was attentive, knowledgeable, fun and kept us all safe and happy. Our local guide Wayan made the trip special by immersing us in his culture. If you are looking for white sandy tropical beach island, there are lots of other places you can go besides Bali. What made the trip special was the people and the culture. Probably the friendliest people anywhere, always ready with a 'hello' in every village. Mindful and happy, the people and our local guides were a joy to be around. There was always a van nearby looking out for us. Meals and hotels were all good, especially the last stay and the first. Super family time that is priceless.

Just returned from a solo/singles multi-sport (deluxe camping) trip in the Tetons and Yellowstone. The trip was amazing. I had been to this part of the country before but biking, hiking and kayaking through it and camping in the national parks gave me a completely different perspective. And Backroads is awesome. Every detail covered, every meal delicious. This is the way to camp.

Loved this hiking trip to the Canadian Rockies. Backroads does an outstanding job of organizing the week---great hotels, staff. All you have to do is show up with the gear they suggest, be in shape for hiking and they take care of the rest. Our group of 15 was delightful.

Awesome Guided Hiking Tour

Backroads did an awesome job on organizing and leading a six day hiking tour in and around Yosemite National Park. All aspects of the trip were taken care of by the Backroads guides and their organization. The hikes they arranged were outstanding. Incredible scenery on every hike, plenty of options, and plenty of variety. The selection of three locations in/around Yosemite for the hikes was excellent. Each area is unique and each provides a different experience and scenery. All of the hotels on the trip were great (Tenaya Lodge, the Majestic, and Rush Creek). The food was excellent and plentiful. And the people in the tour group were very nice and friendly. I highly recommend Backroads. Many in the hiking group had previously traveled on Backroads, tours, so clearly they do a good job. I will definitely be using Backroads guided hiking services again.

the tour guides were so knowlegable, personable and user friendly. the company has advance teams and lots of resources so you are well taken care of from the time you arrive to the very end. the bikes they provided, hotels we stayed in, road trips, meals were all top notch and very comfortable and even better than I had expected. Would definitely be a repeat user.

I have done other Backroads tour and was disappointed in this tour. The guides are fantastic and of no issue. The tour was in Sonoma and we were biking on very busy roads. It was not what I expected and very stressful.

Backroads was an incredible operator to work with. The guides made the entire trip seamless. Every detail was thought out, from transporting our luggage to making sure the kids had plenty of fun & adults had their time as well. There were different levels of activity and they made sure we were aware of the differences each day, made suggestions based on our abilities or our mood and were so thoughtful to our every need. My son was sick one day on the trip and they even called to hotel to check in on us to see how he was doing. I would highly recommend Backroads to other travelers and we can't wait to do another trip with them.

This was our first Backroads trip, and we loved it! Our tour guides, Paul and Francis, encouraged us, provided wonderful gourmet roadside picnics and rest stops. This type of trip is not for the faint of heart! We had to get up to an alarm every morning, and we fell into bed exhausted every night. However, the hotels were upscale and comfortable, the meals were fantastic, and the people we met and traveled with were some of the nicest we have ever met. We will certainly do this type of trip again!

Backroads is a company my husband and I have been on many trips with. We had not been on a trip with them for quite a few years due to a lot of things going on in our lives. When we finally could do a trip, we found the level of their guides to be the same outstanding level. They work tirelessly from very early in the morning to late at night to insure that everyone's needs are met with a very happy attitude.
I was also impressed with the hotel and restaurant selections.
The bikes had improved by leaps and bounds since our last trip. No one ever lost a chain or had a flat. That's the first time that ever happened. They now have a GPS on the bikes as well. I would definitely recommend them to anyone wanting a bike, walking, hiking or multi sports tour.
I understand they now do cruises as well.

Excellent tour with comfortable accommodation and good meals. The exposure to the British countryside was great and what we were looking for.
Would have liked more provided meals to obviate the need to hunt out somewhere to eat in a town that we were not familiar with.
One highlight among many, was the Scottish piper and dinner at the castle on our last night.

This was my first Backroads experience and I could not have been more impressed with our guides. We had so much fun! Our guides planned everything carefully, anticipating our every need and making sure we were enjoying ourselves. There were different hiking goals and abilities within our group and they accommodated each of us with alternative hikes and itineraries each day. They were knowledgeable about the history and the geology of the area we hiked in Utah and they answered every one of our questions. They were interesting and clever, but what was the most amazing was their patience and thoughtfulness.

Outstanding!
Every detail from our hiking route, snacks, meals, resorts, ...was taken care of. All I had to do was show up in my hiking gear and have a fabulous day. Sorely in need of a reboot after a tumultuous 2 years, I reluctantly opted for my first Backroads trip: Arizona’s Tucson and Sonoran Desert - Red Rock and Blue Sky. I’m a sea level cruiser, not a distance cyclist. Yet, this excursion made me feel like a Desert Road Warrior. Upright handlebars and battery assist bike options made elevation and uphills a snap. Immersed in surreal nature and sweeping vistas, my self imposed intimidation faded to a distant memory. The tirelessly hard working Staff patiently accommodated, and miraculously anticipated, the needs of our group of 22 couples and solos. Be prepared to EAT! The words “picnic lunch” are a modest description for the health conscious smorgasbord provided daily en route, not to mention the “pre-ride snack buffet.” Premier accommodations put the “AH” in amazing for a completely fulfilling vacation. Thank you Backroads for introducing me to an LTR with the Open Road❣️

BackRoads planned a magnificent experience for us on the Amalfi Coast. We were enthralled with the views, hikes, meals and camaraderie. It was beautiful, unforgettable, lifetime experience! Our guides, Caterina, Alexandra and Philipo were enthusiastic, kind and overall, fantastic.
Carol Fernandez is a terrific agent. She spent a lot of time helping us plan our trip to Italy which included days before and after our vacation with BackRoads. Ms. Fernandez assisted us in getting reduced airfares and quality hotels. She gave us good advice about locations, getting tickets in advance to special tours, and she kept track of our arrival and departure flights. Ms. Fernandez is experienced, knowledgeable, and truly interested in her clients.

Normandy-Brittany Cycling Tour

The guides are what make these trips fantastic. They set up your bikes and GPS and look after you along the way each day. They are calm, patient and friendly and by the end of the week you realize how hard they work. I thought I'd miss my own road bike but discovered their titanium bikes had electronic shifters and were a real treat to ride.
The daily routes took us along the shores (where D-Day had occurred) and being there made me really appreciate and think about the sacrifice that generation had made. The Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial was dramatic and beautiful. Many of us were choked up as we gazed at the thousands of grave markers. I loved cycling through the country roads and small towns and seeing all the beautiful stone buildings. Mont Saint Michel and Saint Malo were remarkable as well. We stayed at beautiful casual chateaus and the daily meals were wonderful. It was enjoyable to get to know each of the folks who were also on the tour.

Backroads was wonderful. This was my first trip with them, and everything was taken care of. Our guides were delightful. Our daily schedule if hikes and food was exactly what I was looking for. I wanted to be active and eat well. I will definitely go on another tour with them in the future.

Absolutely unbelievable! This was our second backroads trip and we will definitely do a lot more of them. Our leaders were amazing and the hotels and food were incredible! Laura was truly outstanding and great about what we should do every day. Everything was taken care of and it was such an easy way to travel. They take care of everything down to a clean bathroom every few hours. I would definitely recommend backroads! And we will do lots more of these trips!

I really didn't comprehend how top-drawer Backroads was until I was immersed in this hiking trip in the Alps. I was just about the only participant who was a newbie. Everyone else had been on multiple excursions with them. The guides are almost impossibly kind, understanding, competent, and, in this case, athletic. Hotels are magnificent, food the same. But the very best thing about Backroads is the guides' good-natured willingness to accommodate the hike or bike to every single diverse person on their trips, no matter their interests or abilities. And the caliber of people who do Backroads trips is high. You will make friends; you will be impressed; you will do a Backroads trip again!

Having never done a Backroads experience, my wife and I had no idea what to expect and hoped for a great time. Having recently returned from our journey I can say with full confidence this was the highlight of our vacation and one of the most fulfilling trips we have ever done. We had the most amazing time getting to do more than just see parts of Italy, but experience them - much of which I attribute to our wonderful guides, Luca, Eleonora and Ben. They went out of their way to accommodate our needs, get know us and ensure that they crafted our trip to everyone's ability and interests. They taught us about the history of the areas we traveled through and introduced us to the culture - by the end of our trip we almost felt Italian! I'm not sure what other guides are like, but if this is the standard for Backroads, they are definitely doing something right. I cannot express my appreciation for our guides enough as they truly went above and beyond to make our experience so great!

Our experience with Backroads was wonderful. This was our fifth trip with Backroads. The trip leaders were once again amazing--extremely knowledgeable, kind, patient, funny, inspiring, and always concerned with safety. They spend a lot of preparation time and it shows. Every detail was handled perfectly. The hikes, hotels, transfers, meals were all stellar. I definitely recommend Backroads.

This was our first trip with Backroads; many of our companions had traveled with them before. They made the best of the available time, with rafting on the Placer River, a terrific boat ride in Prince William Sound, and two days in Denali. The tour leaders were a total pleasure, the lodging was excellent, and all in all it was a great experience. We will travel with Backroads again.

We loved our bike trip through Tuscany! Backroads and our guides prepared a flawless 5 and a half days, for biking, meals, sights, hotels, and information about the area. Cannot think of one thing they could improve upon. Knowledgeable and skilled guides with perfect execution of creating community among the guests without making anyone feel compelled to join in at a level that felt too chummy. Jackie, our guide on the Backroads lodge-to-lodge trek in Peru, was professional yet personable and such a delight! All of the local guides and lodges were lovely, knowledgable and courteous as well and EVERY detail was taken care of. From plans for the next day left on your bed each night to morning snacks to 3-course lunches and dinners, this is *the* way to "rough it." :) I can't wait to start planning my next Backroads trip already, and I just landed back home this week!

I never thought biking could be so much fun. Back roads is first class. Everything from the guides to the equipment, food and accommodations were perfect. The guides made every effort to make our trip enjoyable. Our group was made up of four couples and two guides. No one knew anyone before the trip. After the trip we felt so close with the group and are still communicating. Highly recommend backgrounds!

This was our first trip with Backroads. Having never traveled with a group, we were very pleased with the experience, and the fact that it was indeed a small group (15). Our leaders were consistently friendly, willing to respond to various concerns and questions, and seemed to go out of their way to ensure that everything went smoothly. While this was our first experience in doing a tour with Backroads, or anyone else, we were the exception as most everyone else in our group had been on numerous Backroads tours. I believe it is a litmus test for tour operators when they have so many repeat clients.

Backroads always plans an active and interesting trip. Because of the location, this trip was definitely less active and one hotel was not up to their standards. However, they made all of this clear prior to booking. The activities they planned were amazing, interesting and diverse. We were still active, daily but just not to the extent you might be used to with Backroads. Trip was great!

What can I say other than the best for someone who wants active travel, the best guides, wonderful food and hotels with no worries. I have been on several trips with backroads. The chosen hiking routes are always scenic and appropriately challenging. Van support has been available for those who desire a little less challenge. The accommodations have always been the best available for the circumstances. The cultural activities available are great. The Backroads tour leaders work at maximum effort to keep guests safe, happy and satisfied. The food is fantastic. I would recommend Backroads to anyone I know. Dick

My experience with Backroads was exceptional. Our tour guides were knowledgeable, dependable, enthusiastic and a lot of fun. They thought of every little detail from scheduling the most interesting city tours to providing snacks that we needed on longer exercise tours. This company, and our guides in particular, went above and beyond expectations. We are already planning our next Backroads adventure, and I wouldn’t even entertain working with any other company given our prior amazing experience with Backroads.

The thought of visiting a National Park was stressful and daunting, especially this year when they are more mobbed that ever. We visited Glacier National Park with Backroads, and it made it a joy! Our Backroads guides were nice and knowledgeable, and it was so great to know that they would handle parking headaches, food, water, medical calamities, and planning.
On the morning that we planned to hike Logan Pass, our guides drove us through the fog until we reached the (very crowded) parking lot. They immediately learned that the trail was closed due to a rockslide. They lost no time in taking us to a different hike (they even had handouts prepared for this Plan B hike!), which was close by, not foggy, and not crowded. We were all impressed!
A few people in our group had traveled with Backroads nine times. Now we understand why! We would definitely travel with them again.

Incredible Croatian Coastline and Beautiful Montenegro Multi Adventure

Backroads is an incredible way to enjoy a country, being active and seeing some of the most beautiful spots in the world. They are an incredible operation and certainly know what they are doing. Our leaders were AMAZING, Zala and Adam could not have been better. We will definitely be returning next year on another Backroads adventure. Minor critiques...On Korcula, our rooms faced the parking lot instead of the beautiful water. Would have been so easy to change our three rooms to the side with a view. Would expect more from Backroads in that regard. Also, there were too many instances where they gave us a modified menu where we could choose one of a few items for dinners and lunches in the future. Would have greatly preferred ordering off a regular menu. Again, annoying, but not a deal killer. The bikes and routes were all excellent and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Backroads is expensive but worth every penny.

I have used Backroads before and the trip itself is outstanding. The guides are wonderful and cannot be beat. All requests are immediately resolved. Their attention to detail is unsurpassed. They are entertaining and always welcome at the dinner table!!
The condition and quality of the bicycles are excellent. BR now has GPS devices on the bikes, so paper directions of the route are gone! This is a big advantage when trying to make the proper turns when out on the route. Also, they offer the choice of an electric bike (at no extra cost) which makes every hilly bike ride enjoyable.
Hotel/Resort were high quality.
My only complaint is there were a number of administrative issues with double billings, incorrect amounts billed, and difficulty is getting the credits issued to my credit card. Nyla, my travel agent, took care of all of this, but I was disappointed in BR since I consider them to be high quality.

My third Backroads trip. They are so organized and the trip leaders do a great job of getting to know you. We did a hiking trip in CA wine country. Hiked along the Pacific Ocean and through a redwood forest park. They lay out lunch on the trail and it's always filling. Wine tastings each day made lunch a bit more enjoyable, too! Made lots of new friends and enjoyed the entire trip.

II did have mechanical issue on the upgraded bike. While the issue was partially resolved, the leaders made a solid effort to get it fixed and arranged for a refund of the bike upgrade fee.

We were unable to join the bike/river cruise after testing positive for Covid the day before the meet up. Disappointing of course, and understandable, but I do not feel that Backroads offered enough assistance in our dilemma. We had to make last minute adjustments, reservations and alternate ways to get to Amsterdam on our own.

Backroads constantly goes above and beyond. It is the rare travel company that undersells and overperforms. We spent 5 days with Backroads in Iceland and it was an incredible experience. When weather caused a change in the schedule, the Backroads leaders pivoted and made sure we still saw everything on the schedule. It is not possible to overstate the quality of the Backroads leaders. At every turn they were there, going the extra mile, always smiling, always pleasant, always gracious. The Backroads leaders made themselves part of the gang, joining in the experiences, yet always working behind the scenes. Location, Leaders, Schedule - it equals a wonderful experience.

They could not have been better. I have a slight injury while on the trip and they were incredible responsive in arranging for me to have an x-ray at a local hospital with a Thai guide, switching out my bicycle, so I could continue riding, and overall being incredibly solicitous. I can’t recommend the company enough.

Generally speaking the Staff were all super nice and very helpful. and worked very hard.
At high level I have several issues with the company.
1) I felt the rider to staff ratio was was to high
2) The routes were not either ridden by the guides or an advance team, as to many issues existed
3) I feel like the Whoa technology isn't great, and something has to be better than what was provided
4) the design of the trip and how it tied together with the cruise could have been much better. (could be my own fault for not doing enough research)
5) While this was my first backroads trip, I think they should have planned out the rest stops a bit better. (lack of bathrooms as 1 of the issues)
6) The app was not updated daily, if the company wants their customers to use it, they need to maintain and update it during the ride.

I just came back from 2 back-to-back trips in Spain and Portugal. They were absolutely perfect from the superb guides to the lodging and delicious meals.
The leaders created an environment that helped to form a cohesive group. Even though I was traveling solo, I never felt left out. The leaders watched over me and were always there to help.

Our guides were phenomenal, Christian, Sylvia and Dylan! They were upbeat, helpful, positive, fun, informed and made our experience lively, cultural and interesting. My wife and I keep returning to Backroads for more fun and laughter as we seek to experience local culture without being on a tour bus. We enjoy the fresh air, the picnics along the way, the visits to local craft shops, and the sense of freedom that somehow emerges when everybody is on a bicycle being carefree. The youthful guides make the trips so entertaining. The e-bikes make any hill climb attainable. The country lodges make you want to stay longer. And the regional cuisine and good wine mark the end of each day with an exclamation point.

The trips are carefully chosen and built around either hiking or biking or a similar active pursuit. There are choices for the exercise level to meet your individual needs. Backroads trip #4 for me. They always deliver. Collecting luggage, moving from Point A to Point B and always lining up a great dinner. Always a fun, informed group and that's a big part of a BR trip - you make great new friends.
This was a premium hotel trip, so it can seem a bit pricey. But, for all that you get and all that they do, it's worth it.

Our 3rd Backroads trip. The leaders are the BEST! We had unusually AMAZING weather. Only complaint was that the first day was a waste. Should have left Anchorage immediately and done a hike rather than bike ride. Alaska doesn't seem to lend itself to biking in general.

Great for my husband who was able to enjoy the many hikes and river rafting trip. I had an injury the first day, then two days after tested positive for COVID. Miserable symptoms and had to stick back at hotels. Trip was a disaster but not because of Backroads. Guides were empathetic. Wayne, Bryson & Jessica took time to know us individually. Comradity among the group came quite naturally. Each day, they prepared a nourishing spread for us to eat picnic-style or pack our own lunch from a superb variety of foods. To prepare for excursions, they ensured the best experience for the group but also for one's individual needs. Always on time with the van, offering refreshments at the end of our activity. I’ve wanted to take a backroads trip for many years so when some good friends of ours mentioned doing one in Croatia with 5 other couples ( nicknamed the Ky Crew) we jumped at the chance. With so many different levels the E bikes were perfect !! It completely equalized the group and made it enjoyable for all. From our amazing guides , the California group we met , the local fares we experienced and the Beautiful Adriatic Sea we will definitely sign up for another backroads in the future . Backroads is a seamless operation focused on active discovery and exploration of a destination. Supported by co-leads and a support person, I was delighted with the organization, planning, hotel accommodations as well as food choices.
I must highlight the local farm-to-table food choices and absolutely fantastic chefs met along the way. It surprised me to get top level food that accommodated my gluten free and dairy free needs not to mention the local in town locations.
Trust this operator to join you with a group of like minded explorers and deliver on a great product. Montreal and Quebec was beautiful by bike, hike and kayak!

It was great. The scenery in New Zealand was spectacular, as were the food and people. We’d been forewarned that it was likely to rain and indeed it did. We had a couple uncomfortably wet hikes and quickly learned the difference between water resistant and waterproof gear. Be prepared. The accommodations on this Casual trip were all nice. Some of the more basic places were park lodges with their own charm and beautiful settings. The higher end places were really nice, with large bedrooms with sitting areas. As the trip progressed we had consistently better weather and even more natural beauty.

The trip guides at Backroads are simply the best! They work well as team, and make all the guests feel well-supported and special. The events they plan on top of the day's hikes help you become better acquainted with the culture of the areas you are visiting, and are fun and interesting. The hotels were first class and definitely not your standard chain places. Instead, we stayed at boutique hotels in places with usually jaw-dropping scenery. It was especially nice to have equipment provided, routes planned out and meals coordinated so that you just needed your clothes and a backpack. For adventures off the beaten path, Backroads is our top choice!

This was our second Backroads trip, and they are a first class operation. The activities they chose (there was always multiple each day) and the accommodations we stayed in were perfect. The guides are mature beyond their years and their sole focus is to make sure each person has a great vacation. If you think you have an interest in an active vacation, I encourage you to explore all the trips that Backroads offers. There’s something for everyone, and while they are not inexpensive, they are worth every penny.

Yosemite is awesome and the tour guides of Backroads made this trip especially relaxing and enjoyable. The tour guides were very considerate and patient as well as with a great sense of humor. The tour guides were very knowledgeable of the area. The guides truly took ownership as our hosts with attention to detail and quality of experience. The team was subtle in making sure all participants were accommodated.

Simply put - wonderful. Truly one of the best trips ever. Our guides - Giulia, Diego and Matteo are wonderful people, brought great fun and encouragement, and jumped into action when necessary. The trip from beginning to end, the food, hotels, the routes and roads we rode, could not have been better. Highly recommend for anyone, even those who are not bike riders. Several of us on the trip had not ridden a bike in many years and the e-bikes make the KMs fly by. A+.

This was our first experience with Backroads and we could not be more impressed by their level of service. The guides were super knowledgeable and personable; the bikes were excellent; and the support staff (driving the support van, moving the luggage) were flawless. There were no hiccups whatsoever the entire trip, except for a rainy day. On that day, within an hour's notice, the guides had contracted a guide to give us a tour of the local church and monastery. They were very familiar with the local lands and customs, and always had a list of alternative activities ready to go.
I am so grateful for their professionalism. It was an awesome trip.

Six days and 5 nights with Backroads was amazing. It's like overnight camp for adults.
They move your luggage from hotel to hotel. They prepare the best picnic lunches. We ate at 3 Michelin star restaurants. The biking was so easy & fun with the electronic assist.
It was our second time traveling with Backroads and we will absolutely use them again.

Our Backroads guides went out of their way to accommodate our group. Most routes were beautiful and interesting. The bikes are a dream to ride! On the other hand, the hotels on this trip were not up to the premier classification as purported by Backroads. We will definitely do another Backroads trip, but we will vet the hotels more thoroughly.

Backroads knows what they're doing when it comes to adventure travel ... the guides completely made what was an already amazing trip, into an exceptional one that completely exceeded my expectations! Ever detail is attended to with communication before, during, and after the trip. Guides were genuinely energetic, receptive, enthusiastic, and knowledgeable,offering detailed information along the trip. Really valued the two extra local guides who offered deeper dives into their fields of expertise (marine science at the Cíes islands and historian in Santiago de Compostela).
Food was outstanding with wine offerings and fresh beverages offered throughout the journey. Sections of the trails were "cherry picked" with beautiful landscapes, bucolic villages, and coastal views that were stunning and breathtaking! Accommodations were well selected and in beautiful historic venues. Simply a well thought out itinerary with attention given to individual needs and ample options... Outstandin!

Both Backroads tours were excellent. The hotels and meals provided were of a very high standard. The daily activities were very well organised and structured. The tour directors were very friendly, knowledgeable and always went out of their way to ensure all of the passengers were comfortable and their needs were met. The group size was manageable ( 18 and 14) and the people all fitted in with each other.
The Drivers were very skilled and friendly and the vehicles were of a very high standard and comfort.

We thoroughly enjoyed our Backroads tour of southern Italy.
We covered everything from buffalo milk being farmed and being used to make mozzarella cheese and a pasta cooking class to seeing how Limoncello was produced . Also visited
the island of Capri and Monaco and its casino and spent a lot of time having a good look at the beautiful Amalfi coast line . Would not like to be driving on those roads. But both our bus driver and tour guide did a fantastic job.

My experience with Backroads was excellent. The tour was well-organized and well worth the price of the tour. The hotels were beautiful and the activities planned for us were fun and interesting. However, it was the guides that made my trip so special. They were prepared for anything and always attentive to our needs. They also were lots of fun and good-natured and made sure to ensure everyone in the group felt welcome. I loved them, as did everyone else in the group. I can't say enough good things about Backroads other than to strongly encourage you to take one of their trips.

We enjoyed the 6 days of hiking that we did with backroads.
1. The guides were knowledgeable, friendly and helpful but gave us space to enjoy the hikes as we wished. They were obviously experienced and seemed to enjoy the hiking themselves. They fit into the group seamlessly and added to the experience.
2. The properties we stayed in and the food we were served was all first rate. All somewhat different which added to the enjoyment.
3. On several evenings there were special events which were well carried out and fun.
4. Our transportation to the various locations for hiking and the hotels was seamless. It was a pleasure not to have to deal with luggage.
5. For the most part the hikes were well chosen. On 3 of the 6 days were we in less developed areas without roads. I would suggest that 5 of the 6 days be spent in this type of environment.

Our trip was fabulous. The attentive and fun guides, the picturesque and quiet routes, the easy-to-use bikes, the luxurious hotels, the tasty food and the little extras exceeded our expectations. This was our second hiking trip with Backroads and we are looking towards a third. From the minute you meet your guides until they send you on your way home, the daily activities are planned but always leave room for change if needed.
This particular trip was a delight due to the three engaging, enthusiastic and fun guides. We are huge fans of Backroads!

We had the most amazing trip to the Amalfi Coast with Backroads. Beautiful hotels, great hikes, delicious food, and the most wonderful tour guides! We loved everything about the trip, and will definitely travel with Backroads again!

Backroads could do better with the lone single on a fully coupled-up trip. I wrote to them suggesting that communications and policies might be buffed up. A couple of weeks before if they see there’s only ONE solo on a departure they offer a deal to the single in case a relatively impecunious traveler friend could be convinced to join (room share).
Last year’s Backroads had three solos. Much less awkward.

With our 3 fabulous guides, Nick, Demetria, and Laura, every aspect of our hiking trip was well organized, first rate, and fun. From the hikes, to the hotels, to the meals, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves as we visited and learned about the Peloponnese.

A memorable holiday with Backroads

We really enjoyed our small group tour of Spain with Backroads. Our guide, Mercedes, was warm and friendly and was very knowledgeable about her country Spain. She was always available to give us advise about where to go and what to see, and where to have a nice meal. Mercedes and our driver, Javier, did a great job of showing us around Spain safely and making it a memorable holiday.

Our Commitment
Sustainability is at the core of Backroads. Inherently, our mode of travel has always been more sustainable! We travel together in vans and we adventure by foot and by bike. This lessens our footprint and allows for a sense of wonder and connection to the amazing regions and communities that we visit. We empower our Trip Leaders to educate guests on thoughtful plastics use on trip (e.g. water bottles, snack bags). Our Field Operations teams seek creative regional solutions for reducing waste and plastics. These include: donating spare food (to food banks, local communities and vendors, etc); bulk buys to reduce packaging; recycling and donating bottles to local organizations. Our Field Houses maximize recycling and compost opportunities, as pertinent to the region. Additionally, we are reducing our reliance on paper print outs in our offices, among the Trip Leader community and with conveying information to our guests. We have migrated to providing Wahoo GPS Navigation units for our guests to use for route guidance.
