Generally my experience with Auto Europe was very good. At some point during my use of the car (but not when I was driving it - presumably while it was parked), it suffered a slight amount of damage. Auto Europe dealt with this in a very understanding way.

Great! The customer service reps were very friendly, but communication was a little challenging given we are English and they are French, but it worked out basically. We were given a brand new mid-size car with GPS. Thankfully the rep set the GPS in English and with an orientation of how to turn the car on we drove out of Paris. We really could have used a more informative orientation and at least a car manual in written in English. We rented the car in Paris and returned at the Marseilles airport without any problem. The staff were very courteous. We had two charges from Hertz on my travel partner's VISA which are questionable and awaiting resolution. We don't know what the charges are for. Aside from this mystery, our experience was good and I would rent a car from Auto Europe again.

We had a car delivered to our first manor house. The car was a very clean E class Mercedes. The agent went over all the details of this car, and left us with a full tank. We then used the car for a week and left the keys with the concierge at a different manor house. This was very easy and efficient.

Mixed review of this service. I don't have previous experience renting cars in Europe, so have nothing to compare to. For the most part it was fine and the rental company that provided the car was reasonable to deal with. However we did have a couple of frustrations. Firstly, I am used to the rental charge being based on a 24 hour period. However in this case, when we wanted to change our pick-up time to just a couple of hours earlier, we were told that this would likely increase the cost of our rental. This seemed a bit absurd, given that we were renting the car for 3 weeks! As well, we paid a rather large additional sum to buy extra insurance, but it seems that this did not cover interiors. So, the fact that one of the seats was slightly soiled, resulting in some special cleaning of that seat, we were charged a significant additional charge for that cleaning. Considering how much the rental cost in the first place, we were not impressed by these extras.

We rented a car for a couple days in Iceland. They worked alongside Procars to give us an excellent experience. They did give us some misinformation on our invoice, but it wasn't anything serious, it just meant they would take us to their rental store instead of dropping the car off at our hotel. Otherwise, no issues and the car was excellent.

We landed in Shannon Ireland and on our Itinerary it said we were getting a FORD MONDEO or similar. That is a Ford Fusion in the US. We got to Hertz and got handed keys for a Volvo V40, small hatch, to me that is not a "similar". We were only able to fit one of our check bags in the back. We ended up having to go back and get a different car and pay additional money for something that still was not similar to a Ford Mondeo, we got a BMW 3 series. Overall they need to have cars available as mentioned or upgrade to us to a vehicle that is bigger and NOT smaller.

A little bumpy at the beginning due to the car breakdown. However, when revisiting the office, the matter was resolved quickly and with priority, for a car replacement. The next two weeks were without incident and the car was in good condition.

Our travel agent arranged car rental abroad through AutoEurope (called EuropCar in Europe). We read things go more moothly with an international driver's license so we obtained one prior to departure from our local AAA. Auto Europe also provided a free GPS which we picked up prior to departure and returned once we got back. The GPS was invaluable in navigating through Europe, speaking English directions to us, as we went. The customer service people at AutoEurope were delightful and helpful and the rental went flawlessly. It was worth the peace of mind getting complete coverage on the car as our own car insurance did NOT cover anything abroad.

Our car was comfortable and clean, but there were two significant problems: it took hours to get the car from our arrival airport (they had only a couple employees handling lines of people to pick up their cars), and when we returned our car, the office was closed (for lunch?) so they had vague instructions taped on the door as to where to leave the car. Then they charged us for another week, because they couldn't find the car, even though it was parked exactly where they asked it to be parked in the note taped to the door. Difficult, and stressful, especially when you have tickets to catch a specific train.

MUNICH: we ended up liking our guide- but
he was a bit gruff. No way to identify him at train station-no sign. Messy and dishoveled
van(groceries) so lack of space for our luggage. All worked out and a compassionate guide who was highly interesting and intelligent.

We had booked two 9 seater luxury vans for a large family trip. The office was quite busy when we arrived. We wanted GPS in our cars and they recommebddd upgrading to a different model. The vehickes were new, clean and the GPS were invaluable in the south of France. Unfortunately we didn’t realize until we started loading them that the upgraded vehickes were 8 seaters not 9. This did make travel more difficult as we had needed one vehicle for two families totalling 9.

There was a problem with our rental car in France. We called Auto Europe's customer service line at 8am (the middle of the night in the US.) Tiffany resolved our problem immediately. She insisted that the company fix their mistake by transferring a car from Paris, which they did! Thanks Tiffany!

We rented an automatic car to get around in Spain. It turned out to be a great deal. It had plenty of room, was very comfortable and turned out to be very ecomical. The only downside was that we did not get directions for the drop off location in Barcelona and that proved to be a frustrating experience. But overall we would not hesitate to rent from Auto Europe again.

Our travel agent booked through Auto Europe for a 4 Wheel Drive at a great rate. When we got to the airport they said the car was not 4 wheel drive but she was finally able to upgrade us at no charge. The car was an all wheel drive Subaru which was great as it snowed a lot in Santa Fe. When my mom got sick and we had to drive back to Austin due to altitude it was a chore to change it. Fortunately, our travel agent help navigate it. Avis said we said we wanted to pay in cash when we turned it in which was not the case. We had paid in full before we got the car.

When we arrived, the rental company told us that we did not purchase "comprehensive coverage" for the vehicle, even though our agent had told us we had. He also offered us an "upgrade", which we accepted. THe upgrade was in name only, and I did not get the car I paid for. Additionally, I later confirmed that I had paid for the comprehensive insurance. When we arrived at our hotel we realized that I'd not been informed how to take the car in reverse. We got stuck at the bottom of a dark hill in the middle of the night and had to call the emergency line, but not before we'd emptied the car, and dragged our bags up a very steep hill.
Later we realized that the car's 1) engine was not strong enough to maintain an idle on a hill; 2) the parking break was not fully functional causing the car to roll down and;3) the interior lights were not working nor 4) windshield fluid in car. They have still not refunded me for the substandard car.

We booked a COMPACT car with automatic shift, knowing we'd be traveling on small local roads, with steep inclines. At first, they said they didn't have the car we reserved. Then gave us a car so big I had a hard time getting it out of the parking space. The Avis rep said it was an L class car, and he didn’t have anything else to offer. He then gave us an A class car, stick shift, which was unacceptable. After going back a third time, he “miraculously” found an automatic Peugeot that was just right. If you reserve a car, and pre-pay, there should be no question that the car is waiting for you upon arrival.

The car we got, a Ford SUV, was great, almost new when we picked it up in Frankfurt. The GPS was wonderful but did have a few issues, especially in Hamburg where it wanted to send us the wrong way up a one way street several times. Also once in Cologne. The Avis representative in the Hamburg Main Train Station told us how to find the drop off parkade by typing in the street name in our GPS. That didn't work as the street was apparently not in the database. We used my iPhone and Google Maps to find it.

Our car rental was booked through Auto Europe and everything went off without a hitch. We picked up the auto in Basel, Switzerland, very efficient service and got exactly the class and type of automobile we had booked. The agent was very efficient in getting us into the car and on our way. We dropped off the car at the end of our vacation at Zurich airport. It was probably one of the easiest and fastest drop offs of a rental we had ever had. Very courteous agent, convenient location.

Our transportation throughout our trip in Italy was perfect. In Rome, Domenico deserves special credit and recognition for his attention to each of us and our various needs (my wife's knee had been bothering and he took special care with a step stool and additional service to help her). He not only was an amazing driver, but served as a additional guide with his insights in our drive to Assisi, Orvieto, etc.

These people care nothing about customer service, it's all about $$$$. They try EVERY time to sell me insurance they know I do not need, then they always try to find something wrong with the car when you hand it in.

Auto Europe was about as pleasant to deal with as any car rental company. In Florence, we got there about 2 mins before they opened, which was 8 am. We then had to walk down the block with all of our heavy bags to their garage, which was not really well marked. But, we got the car fairly quickly and the process was not especially complicated. It was annoying that when we returned the car in Naples, we had to pay $15 to pay for overnight parking, even though they knew we were returning it this day. I thought that was a bit much but the return otherwise was not a problem.

First of all, the front desk person who helped us was not very cordial and her two associates seemed very irritated as well. The phones kept ringing and no one was answering them. We walked down a couple blocks with our luggage (signage was not helpful) to get our car. They shared a space with other car rental companies. We walked up to the Euro car sign and there was no one there, not even a counter! After five minutes a driver pulled up in a dirty car and apologized for it being dirty. He proceeded to take out a spray bottle and cleaned the back windows, at least. I asked about our GPS and he pointed to the seat as it was in a case, not even installed. He did not help us so after determining it did not work we put it in the glove box and used our google maps which worked great. Very poor customer service, it didn't matter that they didn't speak English they just didn't care.

I don’t recommend the company. The car they gave us ended up having a slow leak in one of the tires. When I went to change it it the car had no spare. We had to spend the last two days of our holiday on the phone w/ the customer service representative arranging for the car to be towed away. What’s worse is that the company wasn’t able to confirm they’d be able to get us a similar replacement vehicle before our trip ended so we had to arrange for a private and much more expensive transfer to our final destination.
Ultimately the company refunded us the charges for the two unused days of our reservation but we won’t work with EuropCar again.

Don't care for Auto Europe, starting with the fact that they don't work with my favor car rental agency (Enterprise), so we had to go with Hertz. Then, at Hertz, the staffers didn't know what they had and kept us waiting until they found out. We had booked a mini-van, which they thought they didn't have so they tried to persuade us to go with a sedan, telling us that the the minivan doesn't have enough luggage space anyway. But then it turned out that they didn't have the sedan but did have the minivan! And the minivan DID have luggage space! We were probably there for 45 minutes before we finally got our car. I really wish Virtuoso would stop working with Auto Europe and book directly with Enterprise or whichever agency the customer prefers.

We had some initial difficulties with Avis at Faro airport - they could see our booking on their system, but they found it difficult to process, causing a 40 minute delay in getting our car keys. they also tried to fob us off with a lower category car than we had booked and paid for.
There was some initial existing damage to the car when we picked it up which we were shown was highlighted on the booking form, but on returning the car in Lisbon, Avis tried to argue that it was new damage as not all scratches and a damaged tail light had not been circled on the form - our error for not examining the documents extremely carefully. However as we had taken out the additional damage waiver it did not matter, but I would not have been happy otherwise as we did no damage to the vehicle.
These are all Avis issues not Auto Europe perhaps in terms of bookings, but the Avis experience was not good.

Was not happy with the helpfulness of the agent in Madrid airport when we turned in the car. We were in the wrong terminal (Madrid has 4 - unbeknownst to us) and the agent had no clue to our quandary.

I have had overall good experiences both times I have used the service.
The people are friendly and professional. The locations are convenient. The quality of the cars I actually negotiated for has been very good.
There are a couple of things to know going in:
I have been disappointed when they show me the car they want to rent me. It always costs more when you rent to get the level of car I thought I reserved.
It also always take a long time to check out by comparison to US companies.
Tip:
I get the full insurance which is quite expensive but as the roads are very narrow, saved my bacon on my last trip where I scratched the front fender.

The auto itself was just fine, but the experience with the leasing company was miserable. Disinterested counter help hawking major upcharges (to an already way overpriced service). It is a hard market for rental vehicles, I understand that, but this one felt like we were not just paying a higher price, but more like extortion. Combine that with awful customer service from a sales lady who seemed to be more interested in getting her McDonalds or nails done then dealing with customers and you get a poor (but incredibly expensive) overall experience.

I have used Auto Europe for fourteen years to broker my rental car contracts in Europe. My most recent rental with Europcar was unsatisfactory, and I feel that Auto Europe could have intervened more on my behalf. Europcar Rome provided me a very used Fiat 500L with preexisting damage in February, and then said there was more (slight) damage in May when I returned the car. The Europcar staff were reluctant to examine the car when I picked it up, but went over it closely when I returned it. There was no significant damage that was not there when I took the car. I believe this was done as a pretext to charge me an additional $96.00 damage administration fee, beyond the $4,700.00 I had already paid, and which included zero deductible insurance. I think Auto Europe should recognize this a a pattern with Europcar/Rome, and get them to stop it

Auto Europe is a dependable car service. We had 3 separate drivers for three destinations in Italy. One driver was late picking us up which gave us a little concern, the other two were on time. All had nice vehicles, clean with plenty of room for our people and luggage. They were safe drivers, all very pleasant and eager to help.

Need Assistance In Country; Better than Walking

The rental location was an unmarked (for rental) gas station. Locals were the ones able to inform me where to go. No one at the facility was an English speaker therefore review of road signs and general information was not available. Car was dented and scratched just needed to document that for return so I wasn’t blamed.
Only manual transmission was available. Not having driven manual in 20 years I did practice at home before the trip. Manual shifting, sudden speed limit changes, and navigation was a challenge. Auto transmission would have greatly reduced stress and made trip easier.
Return location was found but return process unlike domestic rentals. English speaker was present and able to process the paperwork.
If no other option this was okay but manual transmission vehicle was definitely the issue for a less than high recommendation.

We had a good experience with Auto Europe. The only downside was that the line to pick up the car in Florence was pretty lengthy, but once we got the car, we had no issues. Drop off was easy. We would definitely use this company again.

The airport and car rental at Santa Fe is a trip in itself. Very antiquated operation. At the car rental, they point behind themselves and say you will find your car on the dirt lot behind the paved lot. And they were right. Based on the line at the single server check in/check out counter, Avis is outselling Hertz by about 8 to 1. It's OK. Just don't be in a rush.

Auto Europe and BUDGET dropped the ball on this one

I booked a rental car in March 2022 at Budget using Auto Europe. The drop off location for Budget changed a month later but nobody told me. I printed off my Auto Europe rental information just before my trip in July, then used that location to attempt dropping off the car at the location specified on my printout. This took me round and round through the airport several times including entering a short term parking structure that cost me $5.30 just to exist 60 seconds later. It took me over an hour to find the new location which was OUTSIDE the airport loop. I was extremely frustrated at that point and have absolutely no faith in BUDGET rental car ever again. The pickup location in London reviewed my printout and failed to catch the old location. No excuses for them.

Very disappointed with this car rental company. We chose and booked a specific vehicle (a Volkswagen Passat wagon with a standard transmission) well in advance. When we arrived to pick it up we were told that the promised vehicle had not been available in their fleet for some time. They tried hard to “up-sell” us to a much more expensive larger luxury vehicle (a Mercedes with an automatic transmission) with features we did not need or desire. I had to be firm and let them know that I would not be paying additional money. Eventually a vehicle similar to what I had been promised originally was found, although it was smaller and less desirable (a diesel Fiat wagon), but it did have a manual transmission. No discount was offered. Also, it was filthy and had considerable damage on one side. It needed servicing (new front brake pads for sure) but it was a take it or leave it situation as nothing else was available!

The car was fine, but the tank was only 5/8s full and we were expected to bring it back with full tank of gas, which we did. My husband took a photo of gas tank reading and mileage to prove we didn’t get full tank but there was no one to discuss it with when returning car at Dublin airport.

Overall the experience was good, though I did not know our provider was Auto Europe. The rental was through Budget at Boston Logan Airport. Debbie arranged the rental, which was significantly less expensive than I could find online, the car was just what we ordered and what was needed (SUV for large family for trip, new and in excellent condition with good features, etc.). However, the experience getting the car at Logan was not good. We waited in line over an hour past our appointed time (we were there on time, because they use a consolidated rental counter where everyone picking up cars from multiple companies are all in the same line) and we very nearly missed our reserved ferry to Martha's Vineyard because of the wait time to get the car. So that part was NOT good, in fact, BAD, but I assume that is because of how Logan has set up their car rental services. If so they should seriously revisit their plan, because it is NOT customer-friendly.

Our experience with our rental car in Seville, Spain was a significant disappointment. When we checked-in, the representative for Europcar said we were being over-charged for the car (over $200 Cdn. per day) based on her understanding and most other clients being charged less than 1/2 the amount. She indicated they had lots of inventory, and our quote was grossly out-of-line with current market conditions. Yet, we were told by Auto Europe this was the best deal we could get at the time (mid-Sept). Simple greedflation!!
We were also told our insurance would not include glass or tires! Never in 40 years have we been told this when having full coverage with no deductible for damage. Why? When we got the car, it had over 45,000 kms, problems with tire pressure, and within 10 kms of driving, an engine warning light came on. We returned the car, demanded a new one, but lost 3 hours in the process. Never again will we trust this company.

Super negative experience.
There were two people in the kiosk doing the check-ins and we were hoping for the friendly young lady who took the time to explain everything to her customers and show them where their car was.
The guy we got did none of that. He talked on the phone while of serving us and left us to watch him on the phone a couple of times for at least 10 minutes each time.
We were told we would be getting a BMW X3 or equivalent when we booked the car.
He gave us keys to a Hyundai Tucson and told us it was an upgrade. When I said we'd rented a BMW, he waved us off.
When we couldn't find the car we went back twice - he gave the same bad directions and waved us off without budging in his seat twice .
When we finally found the car the vehicle parked next to it, was a BMW X3 (like we had rented). the Hyundai we got was a very basic model.
It was a Standard,
It was down a liter of oil and the oil that was in it was like black tar.
It was filthy inside, and uncomfortable.

This is the second time I have had difficulty with Auto Europe.- Our flight was canceled and they would not let my son , whose flight made to destination, pick up car. When I did arrived a day later they told me I did not pick car up and I lost my money( prepaid). They eventually refunded my money after travel agent called.
I ended up renting a car for almost half price from Avis. Never again Auto Europe.

Very easy as setup by travel agent. Car was in great condition and the car I ordered was the car I was given with no problems. Only odd thing was that the European GPS I ordered through auto europe was sent to my home in USA and arrived the day before my flight. I didn't know the GPS was coming to my home and thought it would be given to me when I picked up the car. It was lucky I wasn't leaving from my travel partner's house or another city or I would not have received it. My packages are received by my apartments office and I also most didn't bother to go down and pickup my packages.

We rented a car at AVIS at CDG airport in Paris. We were give a diesel Ford with a gas tank that was almost empty. We were told that the reason was that the gas stations in the neighborhood of the airport had run out of diesel. It was Sunday morning and we were left to cruise around the airport looking for a gas station that was open and had some diesel, while facing the possibility of running out of fuel. Not pleasant experience after being up all night on a plane. Avoid AVIS at CDG.

We have no complaints about our recent car rental in France with Auto Europe. The car provided was what we expected, and the minor damage was noted on the contract. We realized that the windshield washer fluid has not been topped off, as we ran out on the first day. That kind of made us wonder what else had not been checked, such as other fluid levels and tire pressure, etc. All in all, it was a basic, uneventful car rental experience.

The staff were very thorough, had our reservation ready, explained some options to us WITHOUT a high-pressure upsell, and got us into our rental car quickly. They made certain we were aware of the driving rules and understood the basics of the car operation (such as headlights and windshield wipers). They also gave us explicit instructions and a clearly detailed map to help us get to the main highway which were better than the GPS directions. Very thorough and efficient when we returned the car -- they worked to make certain we did not have any surprises by checking for dents and explaining the charges for gasoline.

Although the travel agent mistakenly reserved the car for 10 am, when our flight landed before 8 am, they were able to find us another car. It wasn't as big as the car we'd reserved, but it sufficed. They only had one map, of Italy as a whole, and no regional maps, which was a huge disappointment.

Our reservation was in their computer and we had our rental car in appropriate time with no cliches. We did have to make one call to them after we left due to a message on the dashboard and it was handled quickly and professionally. Upon returning the car at the end of our 17 day stay, we were served quickly with courtesy.

Car was nice and in working order. Returning the car in Lyon was harrowing. Be sure and check the operating hours of the rental car offices in whatever city you are ending your trip in. You could find yourself stranded! The rental car employee present did let us have a seat and wait for the clerks to get to work. He gave us a bottle of water too. He was great!

They delivered the car to the hotel a day early. It was clean and large enough so the luggage for 4 people just fit. It was a small Opal wagon and had an automatic transmission although we were expecting an manual. That was probably good as we were in some stop and go traffic.

Our car was comfortable, clean, and in good working order. Pick up worked out well. We ended up with a larger car than we thought we were renting. Kyle and Dexter could not have been more helpful and attentive when we ran into a problem with exchanging the car we had reserved for a smaller model. We decided to keep our original rental and were happy with its performance. Would definitely rent from Auto Europe again in the future.

There cars are nice, clean and well serviced. It's recommended that you learn how to drive a stick shift if you don't know how. There GPS units don't work very well and we used our cell phone for directions a lot . We did find it hard to follow the return car instructions sometimes.

We had an excellent car at very good price for our 2 week driving tour of France this summer. The car was just the right size and we could carry all our bags and have them well hidden while we toured. The car was a stick shift which was perfect. Very easy to drive and a much better car rental price than an automatic. Great gas mileage which is particularly important when buying fuel in Europe.

We picked up our vehicle in Glasgow. There was a line but not too long. Our service rep was excellent. Our vehicle was fine. We had to ask for help with the navigation system and an overview of the car. The gentleman that helped us seemed in a hurry but helped us. We asked for a map and directions but those services were not provided. Returning the vehicle was a nightmare. No one had informed us that in Edniburgh a road near the return spot has been closed for months and it makes it very complicated to get to the return location. Once at the return location it is very complicated to get to the proper location in the parking garage. Then the office was closed so it was difficult figuring out what procedures we needed to follow. All in all hopefully or car return was successful. We have not received anything from the company.

The car was new and in perfect condition. We didn't like the aggressive upselling at the counter when we were just trying to get on the road. We paid a lot of money for the rental in advance and then got charged 20% more for things we thought were covered, such as 1 added driver and some airport taxes/fees.

Getting a car on a holiday in France was memorable. Sort of a planes, trains and automobiles sort of experience. That said once we located the car, it was great. Check in and out was easy and the quality of the car was excellent. Had it not been a holiday the car would have been delivered. The price of an automatic transmission was prohibitive but the cost of a manual was much more in line with expectations. IF you can drive a stick get one of those. There was no hidden fees or charges after we got back from the trip so that was reassuring.

I've used their services multiple times and have had consistently good service. My flight from ORD to MAN was canceled resulting in a days delay in picking up the rental car. The staff at the 800 number were helpful and pleasant, and I received credit for one day of prepaid rental. My one disappointment was with the young man that processed my rental in MAN. My prepay was for the smallest vehicle they offered and he was persistent in trying to get me to upgrade (with and additional charge). He ended up giving me a Jeep Renegade which is a gas guzzler. I agreed because I was worn out from flight cancellations, delays and jet lag but wasn't pleased with that element of the experience.

AutoEurope talked us into a GPS. Wow, thank goodness for that! Couldn't have navigated the mountains of northeastern Spain without it. Our cellphones didn't have quite the same logistical accuracy. Really appreciated the ease of pickup and delivery. Absolutely no problems whatsoever, and our vehicle was super comfortable and drove beautifully. Our wonderful travel agent, Izumi Ozawa, made sure we enjoyed our trip hassle free. We were picked up at the airport when we arrived and taken straight to our hotel. Then they picked us up and delivered us right to the ship for our cruise. We stayed a few extra days in our final port of Amsterdam and the transportation service picked us up right at the ship and delivered us to our hotel. They always insisted on helping us with all our baggage every time. No lifting or lugging for us.....we were on vacation and being pampered!!!

I have used them before. They are expensive. The staff are friendly, but I upgraded to a Mercedes to get GPS. I discovered about an hour after I left the rental car location that the GPS had not been uploaded into the car. When I returned the car, the Auto Europe person told me that was a common problem.

We had an unfortunate experience with our car rental while vacationing in England. The main problem was that the cost of rental was double what we were quoted on Expedia. The rental agent insisted that we had to take the premium insurance package which significantly increased our rental cost. We questioned this with our travel agent on our return who suggested we should not have been charged these extra costs. In addition the rental agent was pushing hard for us to upgrade to a vehicle we were not interested in at a significantly higher cost. Not a great experience. We placed a complaint to the company on our return but have had no reply after 2 weeks. Would not recommend this company.

The worked well for our needs except the GPS in the car did not work very well, therefore we ended up having to depend on maps rather than the GPS. I don't know if it hadn't been updated, but we got lost multiple times when we followed the GPS directions. It did work well withing the cities in Europe but not in the rural areas.

Generally, our experience was fine with one exception. In Barcelona, the Hertz representative, Fabio, tried to scare me into upgrading our vehicle. He emphatically told me that unsecured luggage in the backseat is illegal and that I was likely to get stopped by police and ticketed. He pushed a larger vehicle that would handle all of our luggage in the trunk, a 140Euro upgrade. Truly a tall-tale. It is not illegal to transport luggage in your backseat. No, I did not upgrade -- but the experience was uncomfortable, embarrassing, and a waste of time.

It was just ok. The line up at the Edinburgh airport was too long. It took us an hour to get the car. They need a better check in system. Once we got to the counter the employee was very friendly and helpful. He did however manage to upsell us a more expensive car. It was too big though and we should have stuck with the smaller car based on our inexperience on these roads. It was way too expensive to rent cars in Scotland.

Yes noted above is a mixed yes. I picked up a nail in tire on first car i rented and they had no capacity in York, England to change a tire-Highly unusual in my opinion. Again, I guess. we ended up with a great car BUT did not realize it had a great GPS until we were totally lost on the way the to villa. the car pick up location first would not help us because we arrived early (said to be there before 12:30 and we got there at 11:40 apparently had to be there at noon). so we left and came back and by then there was a line out the door - had been none before so we did not understand. They did not show us anything in the car like the GPS or really tell us how to get out of there. Just gave us the keys. But the car was great.

The answer is probably maybe vs yes. While the car was fine, the process of picking up and dropping it was very inefficient. We had to wait almost 40 mins for the car at Heathrow and similarity had to wait about 30 minutes when dropping off the car in Birmingham. Luckily we had built time into the schedule.
Lastly, the original service professional at budget did not do a good job of explaining the additional charges that we found upon returning the car.

My only complaint was that I would normally expect an Audi to have leather seats and upgrades more consistent with a luxury car and it did not. But overall the car ran fine and we had no other problems for two weeks.

We had many rides, and being six of us made for a little more of a challenge.
Our first driver and tour guide in Ireland was very good, John was his name.
Our last transfer, in Nice was very nice, two very nice cars, because vans were at a shortage.
However, our ride from Avignon train station to Nice was a little nerve wracking! Our drive either never got the message we were at the rental car area, or just assumed we were arriving by train, so we waited for about 30 to 45 minutes, before his office could contact him and he then could drive the van around to the other side of the station. Then he was driving so fast, which at first seemed OK, since we were running late. But he was exceeding 145 kilometers per hour! ( I have an app that reads the speed I’m going.)

The Siena office was unprofessional and was running an apparent fraud and shake down operation on its customers. This included charging exorbitant fees for damages that were not apparent to the naked eye to the insurance company, then charging administrative fees to file claims for these imaginary damages and then holding travelers hostage by trying to block the taxi drivers from transporting passengers to the train station. There was clearly illegal kickbacks and fraudulent insurance claims being made by the employees at the agency.

The service is VERY slow and it took us over 1 1/2 hours for them to bring us our car after we checked in. We were given a brand new Audi which was very nice, but the horn got stuck in the down position and wouldn't turn off unless we turned the car off. We were driving across the country and they did not offer any assistance when we called. It was overwhelming and frustrating, to say the least.

Buyer beware: we used Sixt. The car was great, the service to notch. But... because we were renting in Ireland (Europe) using our Chase coverage they put a $5,OOO holed on our card. I wish this was Bolded in our confirmation. Everything worked out. Thank goodness we had a second "International" credit card. I hate paying exchange rates.

Had trouble finding our car because it was not where we were told it would be. It was blocked by a bunch of returned vehicles and we had to wait for them to be moved. There was zero windshield wiper fluid in our rental, so we had to make a special stop.

We did not receive an Audi like vehicle and the agent tried upselling us to a larger car (which is the last thing I would want in Italy for two people) and claimed our vehicle was not ready...and then it miraculously became available when we declined the offer to upgrade at a cost.

My car rental request was for a Fiat 500 and I received a Fiat Panda.
Because I could not find a vendor inside the airport to buy a local SIM card for my cell, I took the extra charge of using EuropCar's GPS/cell phone. I stopped 3 times on my drive to Schiavonea to call the landlord of the apartment I was renting, but the cell phone call was NOT able to be completed. I never used this device after the first day, Sept. 14.
When I returned to car on day early, Saturday, Sept. 23, I went in the building where a female told me to take the car to the parking lot attendant, her colleague Danielo. When I handed him the GPS/cell phone, he told me to return it to the building. I said I had just been there!
Then I signed my rental agreement and Danielo took it. I did NOT get a copy, and have not seen one in my emails. I asked for a one day refund on my total charges, and have NOT seen that refund on my credit card. STILL WAITING as of today, October 4, 2023

Auto Europe was very helpful, and easy to contact. Our guides were knowledgeable and very kind. Our only issue was that our guide in Venice, Alvis, cut our tour short by an hour and gave us an option of either going back to the hotel or having a "homemade" pasta lunch in Venice. We would have liked to stay in Burano, where weto eat. He also did not give us the option of walking in Verona after the glass blowing experience. We would not recommend him.

This was our latest European trip with a pre-arranged rental through Auto Europe, booked via our travel advisor.
Pick-up and drop-off (this time Munich) with the contracted rental provider was straightforward and vehicle provided according to the booking. Vehicle was in excellent condition.
We like that we can pre-pay for the rental in CDN $s, and that full insurance coverage is an available, and essential, option.
We would go with Auto Europe again based on previous experiences.

Driving through Miami was one of the scariest experiences of my life. The people there drive like maniacs and the signage is the worst I’ve seen. I would highly recommend taking the high speed train to your destination and renting a car when you get there. There is NO SERVICE at Auto Europe: no employees, no one to help at all. When you do get lucky enough to hunt down an employee there’s a line to get information. The keys are left in the cars but its your job to find the right car and since there are no maps provided it’s your guess how to find the interstate. Total nightmare! Take a train or an Uber.

This was the first time I rented in downtown Florence. They were very professional. The car was clean and in good shape. The only thing I found interesting was they didn’t tell me it was a hybrid and were to locate charging stations. All was good we just purchased gas.

I'd say we were overcharged for our rental and it was hard to understand what our fuel options were. I'd prefer to have gotten our fuel and insurance options ahead of time so we could review it before we are picking up our rental after a red eye plane flight with another 4 hour drive awaiting us. Other than that the pickup and return was easy and the pickup had people available to switch the car language to English and help us get Apple CarPlay up on the cars display.

I did not like the car we got it was not an American car. It was some version I’ve never heard of and we couldn’t find any of the controls how to start it where the windows were how to reverse and forward the service at getting the car was overly busy and impersonalized, and so the car was dirty and then when we switched to another car, it ended up being OK in the long run once we figured it out but nothing like the service I get at us rental car companies.

The checking process at the airport was fast. It would be nice if the car rental company would explain how to use the features of the vehicle like the back-up camera. And how to use the radio. Also, they should have paper maps to explain how you travel to where you are going from the airport. In Fussen, I scratched my car, but had zero deductible insurance, so rental return was easy. Finally, Europeauto needs to explain the charges like added driver and some other weird charge.

We made arrangements for two vehicles back in January 2024 for our vacation in Germany and Austria. When we arrived at Frankfurt, Europcar was not prepared. There were only 3 people working the service counter who seemed very unprepared and lacked training. What should have taken a few minutes ended up taking 4 hours before we were able to leave and start our vacation.

We specified a particular car and they switched it for they positioned as "comparable". The switch was akin to a mini to an SUV. After rejecting the car, they offered us a realistic comparable car but at double the price, unfortunately it was the only option in the lot so we had no choice... No negotiation, their way or no way and in a foreign country it was a blatant bait and switch.

Checking in to pick up the car was simple, with the Hertz lot just across a parking area from the Shannon (Ireland) terminal. They were easy to work with and made the whole process very simple. We had a great car and after getting used to driving on the left side of the road, our experience on the roads was wonderful. Checking the car back in at the Dublin airport was also very easy and they even dropped me off at our nearby airport hotel afterward. Wonderful experience all around!

Auto Europe was a little confusing to navigate around. We were unaware that Auto Europe wasn't the rental company so when we got to Sicily we were confused when we couldn't find an Auto Europe counter. We eventually found the counter we needed to go to for the actual car rental company, and when we got our car, the gas gauge didn't work and that was the only car available to us. However, this wasn't Auto Europe, it was the actual rental car company. We didn't really deal directly with Auto Europe at all.

Mediocre. There was one agent on duty when we arrived at their pick-up place in Florence and a bit of a wait. Once we got to the agent, we quickly got through the process, having prepaid. The car appeared not to have been cleaned and had less than a full tank of gas.
The car was fine otherwise and got us around all of the s curves and round-abouts.
The drop off at the airport was more of what we're used to in the states.

We arrived in Nice after an overnight flight from the US. We had reserved our car months earlier. The wait to pick up the car was over 2 hours! The process is very inefficient and needlessly long. When we finally got served the agent tried to upsell us to other cars. In the end, we got a great car that was reliable but getting out of the airport was very frustrating!

The company processes all gold members first which is almost everyone. After weighting over one hour they finally processed us. We still would have waited but they fit us in because we inquired why our number kept dropping and explained that we had a 6 hour drive ahead of us.

Did not rent from Auto Europe. Our agent Switched our rental to Avis because of better insurance coverage.
My only issues were:
Windshield and interior windows not cleaned before we picked up the car. Drove around with a film on windshield. until we cleaned some of it off.
Avis placed a 'temporary Visa charge' of 56 Euro (about $66) on our Visa Credit Card for a full tank of fuel, which will be charged if they have to fill it upon its return. We filled the tank shortly before we dropped the car off at Madrid's main Railroad station. There was a lot of commotion at Avis' drop off location, so we just left the vehicle and have no idea if they accepted the vehicle as having a full tank. We have not seen a charge for fuel yet, so I assume there will be none. By the way, the charge is either all or nothing. If we brought it in with say, 3/4 of a tank, they'd charge us to fill the entire tank. This is a great incentive to make sure the tank is full upon drop off and return.

Very impressed with Auto Europe, great rate even with full insurance. We picked up and dropped off our car at Marseilles Airport (right across the street from terminal). No hassles either way. Highly recommend getting full insurance coverage which gives you complete piece of mind that any accident or theft is completely covered. After 8 days of driving in Provence, their only requirement was to return the car with a full tank of gas.

We rented a Mercedes 180 - a small diesel car with a TomTom GPS. The car was brand new and was the right size for Portuguese narrow streets. The overall experience with the car was good, however customer service was poor (check-in took far too long). Also, when I had a problem with the GPS, it was impossible to reach anyone on the phone (I tried a few numbers). Finally, I had to send an email to get their attention. It took a bit of negotiation to get them to remove the GPS charge from my bill.

Our rental experience with Auto Europe was good. The car was ready for pick-up at the prescribed time. The vehicle performed well, although we could have used some training in the NAV system since it only spoke German. The vehicle return was quick and efficient, unlike some NA renters. A query to provide the closing invoice when we returned was responded to quickly and without issue.

Our family of four rented a car in Italy during Summer 2018. We picked up the car at the train station in Rome and then dropped it off two weeks later at the Rome airport. The whole process was easy, seamless, quick and affordable. Auto Europe emailed all necessary info to me prior to leaving the US. The car was clean and well maintained. We opted to pay for the additional GPS, which was mailed to our home in the US before our departure. Once back in the US, I returned the GPS via FedEx using a pre-printed label - very easy. From communication with Auto Europe to picking up and dropping off the car in different locations to the quality of the vehicle, we were completely satisfied. The employees we met in Italy were professional, helpful and spoke excellent English. Both pick-up and drop-off went quickly - we were on our way in no time. We loved driving through Italy and seeing the countryside and Auto Europe made it almost effortless.

Excellent! We lucked out with a Volvo station wagon that came with a very fine GPS system - we had not asked for a car with GPS and were happy to accept a vehicle with one. The GPS was particularly helpful in helping us to navigate the Rome airport to return our car. One suggestion: it would be very helpful for foreign travelers to be given written instructions on where to find the various shuttle services to airport hotels from the car rental return garage. We got a variety of answers from those we asked. That was frustrating.
I will say that European station wagons do not come with a lot of leg room, which on journeys of more than 2 hours was a bit uncomfortable for those of us with long legs. It came with adequate trunk space for our luggage. The car was clean and the AC worked quite well.

Renting a car in Italy is a risky adventure. Have done it many times. Auto Europe was reasonable to deal with, but need to be vigilant about quality/condition of car before and after. Its a negotiation at each location and there are signficant costs at each turn.
Check your final bill and make sure it is what was agreed upon and make sure you keep your receipts. Over charges are normal (and happened) but not always worth fighting for after the fact.

Although there were others at the rental agency that were having issues with their reservations ( not made through Auto Europe), we had absolutely no problem with ours. The car was ready and we were on our way in no time at all.

The experience with Auto Europe was probably as one would expect it to be with a car rental organization. The car rental arrangement in Florence did not provide a navigation system and we realized that was not going to work. They were able to upgrade us to a vehicle that had a navigation system for a small number of Euro's per day. It was well worth it. The car was an Audi 3 I guess. It was clean and quite nice. Upon arrival they were quick to get the car and get us on our way. They were polite and helpful.

A big thumbs down to hertz Rent-A-Car.
They are trying to charge us for a tiny bit of damage to the front spoiler that we did not cause. When we picked up our rental car no one escorted us to the vehicle. They gave us a set of keys and pointed us to the garage. The garage was dark in the car had just been washed. The damages to the spoiler below the front bumper and we probably would not have noticed it anyway. It is a little bit of scraped paint and we are 100% sure we did not cause it. We are now in the position of having to fight with them not to charge us for it as they want close to $200 in American money.

We rented a GPS for our trip to France and Italy with a rental car in each country. The GPS arrived on time as promised and worked well. Picking up the car in Nice, France was cumbersome. Picking up the car in Genoa, Italy was a breeze. However when taking our the car in each country there was no one to check out the vehicle with. When returning them I was lucky to have taken timed damage pictures to prove that they were prior occurrences. The cars were very good.

Auto Europe arranged my Norwegian rental car through Europcar in Bergen, Norway. I had no problems picking up the car in Bergen or dropping it off at Vigra Airport in Aalesund. The vehicle itself was clean and otherwise in excellent condition when I rented it. I received detailed information about the various toll and drop off fees, as well as Norwegian insurance requirements as well. The only thing I wish they had provided was a set of paper maps for the cities and rural areas through which I planned to drive.

We had a rental all booked months in advance to pick up the car in Dublin with Auto Europe
It took over an hour of standing in line to get our car, as there was only 1 person working and was having issues with proof of insurance with a customer that stopped in to book that day. It would've made more sense to have the gentleman step aside and take care of all of us that had reservations. A few miles down the road the service soon engine light came on. Made us very nervous as we had a 3 hour drive ahead and no phone service to even call Auto Europe. Tires also looked pretty sketchy.
However, had no issues with the car and drove it for a week.

If you need good drivers and transportation during your trip to Italy, I would recommend Auto Europe. We have 3 or 4 different drivers in various parts of Italy. All were engaging and fun, took great pride in their work and in their country. They allowed you privacy if you wanted to work or have a conversation with fellow travelers. But they also were happy to serve as guides and pointed out sites of interest along the way--even though they had been retained only as a driver. We also got great recommendations for restaurants along our routes. We accepted their recommendations and had some incredible meals as a result!

My dealings with Auto Europe were brief but problem-free. The car was ready when we arrived and the paperwork was taken care of quickly. The same was true when we dropped the car off. The only suggestion I have is that no one briefed us on the car itself. It was an Italian brand that I had never heard of and it took us a minute to figure out how to work the touchscreen (which was in Italian with no English option). A brief overview of the car would have been very helpful.

Auto Europe was an easy company to work with! We were able to pickup the van at a local station. They gave complete instructions and guidance for traveling to the countryside. Upon our return, they picked up the van at the private club and hotel.

Unfortunately we were not able to locate Auto Europe. The company had changed locations a few days prior to our pickup and unfortunately anyone we asked for assistance was unhelpful. We were not notified that their location had changed and we walked several km in high temperatures until we finally found their new location. Otherwise the vehicle met our needs.

We picked up a car in Italy and returned it in Switzerland. This caused some problems upon pick up. The people really took their time and worked diligently to figure out our issues and get our trip started. They seemed to care about the problem and I was impressed with their service in a stressful situation.

We did encounter an issue that our Travel Advisor is diligently addressing. We had contracted to drop our car in Milano on June 2 and when we arrived at the drop-off, the facility was closed due to a national holiday. We were charged a late fee but had no way to return the car. the awesome front desk staff at the Chateau Monfort arranged for someone from Hertz to pick up the car and our Travel Advisor is dealing with having the charges reversed. How this is resolved, will inform our ultimate review of Auto Europe.

I did not have any issue per say and would not try to deter anyone from using this service. There seemed to be inconsistencies based on rental location - in Sicily they told us we were fully insured and could add an extra driver. In Torino we had very little coverage with a high deductible and there was a charge to add another driver.

Through no fault of Sarah's the car we received was very dirty on the inside. Additionally, even though we had made a reservation for pick up we had to wait 2.5 hours in line prior to actually picking up the car. Other than that, the car was fine.

If you are needing a car rental, Auto Europe worked out fine. No other points of reference in Europe but have rented plenty of cars in the US and process was similar. Paper work was typical for a car rental. I took the full insurance coverage. As a side note, I would get some familiarity with the traffic signs and norms in the country you are renting.

Although we had a prepaid reservation through them for a car at Milan's airport, it took 2 hours to get it. The check-in was quite busy, understandably, and took about 25 minutes. From there, we were instructed to go to the garage; they were sending the car over, and it would take about 15 minutes. It took them about an hour and a half to bring us a different vehicle: no real explanation, no apology. There happens to be a Hertz at the Milano airport, so it was doubly unfortunate.

This rental car agency was priced well, but did not mention that we required an international drivers license to rent a car. We had to walk about 1 mile from the train station with our luggage, wait in a long line for ~45 mins and then to be told upon our turn that we could not rent a car from them without this license. They cancelled our reservation and told us good luck and walk down the street to try and find a rental agency that had cars available. It was a disappointing and jolting experience in our other wise perfect vacation.

We contracted a “premium” class car like a Mercedes C class and were given a Volvo v40 which was so small we barely fit our 4 carry on pieces of luggage for all 4 of us. The checkout process at The Edinburgh location was slow and the woman was new and didn’t know very much about her job, i.e., poorly trained. Auto Europe is just a conduit, enterprise was the rental company. When returning the car, the representative said they would give us a 50 pound credit through auto Europe. Let’s make sure that happens.

No Gas in car at Venice Airport

Auto Europe was our disappointment on this vacation. When we picked up the car at the Venice airport it was confusing reading all the dashboard lights and figuring out the car.....then the exit was a tight curve cement path 5 stories high. It wasn't until we exited the rental parking area that lights lit up to say "No Petro". It was very difficult to find a gas station....the 1st gas station the GPS on the car took us too was closed, the 2nd gas station only sold diesel. Finally we found a 3rd gas station....worried the car would stop running because no gas. It took an hour from when we signed the paper work at the rental counter to find the 3rd gas station. We put 96 Euros of gas in the car to fill it up. When we returned the car in Bolzano a few days later they would not believe us. We had photos of the "No Petro" light on....and the gas station receipt. They said "You didn't get gas for one hour... we gave you a full tank". We returned gas half full.They tried to charge us.

The location we were to pickup our rental had closed a few days prior to our arrival and no email had given us advance notice. Our Uber dropped us off only for us to find the office being dismantled by a construction crew. Fortunately they were able to find a piece of paper with the alternate location...so we hailed a new Uber and travelled another 20 minutes, thankfully finding our reservation ready to go. Airport return at Lisbon had great service and fast processing.

We were scheduled to pick up our rental car at the Frankfurt Airport Terminal 2. We had no trouble finding the Europcar desk at Terminal 2, but upon presenting a hard copy of my rental voucher, we were informed by the Europcar agent that we could only pick up our car at Terminal 1. Nevertheless, he processed our paperwork at Terminal 2 but then presented us with three options: upgrade our rental with him at an increased price; wait an hour or more and have our original car “delivered” from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2, or take the shuttle bus to Terminal 1 and pick up the car ourselves. His attitude was unfriendly, to say the least. We were his only customers but he acted as if we had imposed upon his valuable time. We took the shuttle bus to Terminal 1 (with all our luggage) and located Europcar in Terminal 1. The agent there was helpful, but it took nearly another 1-1/2 hours to find our car and leave the airport. This was an exhausting and, we hope, avoidable glitch in our trip.

Our experience with Sixt was awful. Complete confusion until the day of to pick up the car after hours in Caen. William that called was helpful but had none of the information we had already downloaded and said was all approved. We had to do it all over again. Stressful!
And the return was worst. Completely inadequate info for address to return the car. Amazingly stressful.
There is a disconnect with the corporate office and the local offices

Arriving at the rental car location was quick and easy. Upon our arrival, the rental car clerk immediately began to try to upsell us into a rental that would have cost 60% more than our reserved vehicle. He really did not want to take no for an answer. The car we had was fine. Clean and easy to use, despite our first time driving on the left side of the road. Return was easy and the rental return guy even called us a taxi so we avoided having to go back to the airport terminal to get a taxi.

Picking up a car and driving in a foreign country can be stressful. Auto Europe lower the stress level. The communication from the company was good, the car provided was clean and maintained well. When picking up the car, the staff was professional and extremely helpful; they explained the terms of the contract in simple terms and helped with questions about the setup of the car and the route we were taking. The drop off when finished was quick and efficient.

We leased a brand new Peugeot for our month-long trip. The car was perfect. Fully equipped. A pleasure to drive. Fully insured. It's the first time I've leased directly from the car company rather than renting. The process was simple. The people knowledgeable and courteous and efficient. Our trip was interrupted due to a lost passport, and we were not able to pick up our reserved vehicle. Upon our return, we submitted a request for a refund and Auto Europe responded quickly. There was a $200 "penalty" because we didn't cancel the reservation 72 hours before we were scheduled to pick up the car, but the remainder of our pre-payment was quickly credited to our account.
We were required to wait until after the original return date on the car before we could file the claim, but once it was filed, the process was seamless.
We will use them again.

I am actually unsure as to whether I would recommend Auto Europe to our travelers. The wait was almost 2 hours, even though we had a reservation. I just don't think we should have to wait that long, after paying completely in advance for a car rental.
I will say the people working at the desk for rental and also the people working on return desk were all very helpful and professional.

The Hertz office in Aberdeen doesn't open until 9:00 a.m., somewhat inconvenient. In addition, the walking distance to the car rental center from the terminal was a considerable. There is no shuttle. It's tough to navigate with baggage. Again, our advisor did not inform us of this.

It was acceptable. The car was comfortable and performed well. The on site staff were reasonably helpful but somewhat young and inexperienced. Skip the GPS option as was costly and not that helpful. We made a schedule change due to airline snafu and Auto Europe was not accommodative other than to allow us to rebook (by simply eliminating a day of booking) but it ended up being more expensive eve though we were only cutting off one day with several days notice.

Generally we have had wonderful experiences, however on this last trip we found with this past rental our car rental had been mysteriously cancelled even after our credit card account had been debited. We are working through our travel agent to resolve this unfortunate incident. However the Auto Europe agent at the airport where we were informed of this mistaken cancellation quickly resolved our predicament by finding us another vehicle for our needs. Very happy for the vehicle and level of professionalism

Service at the stores was decent. The wait at the Florence office was quite long but they did well considering the load of customers they had. Everyone was friendly and spoke English well enough that I was able to communicate just fine. The rental was paid in advance by my travel agency.
We did have to pay extra for gassing the car up to full and then chose to have them refuel the cars when we were done with them. I was told that their rate per gallon was less than most of the gas stations and didn't bother to question that.
We also paid extra for more car insurance. We were able to get roadside assistance and insure all of our bags too. Cars were insured for 0 euro deductible for collision etc.

Overall the experience was adequate - we got where we need to go and when. The car, a Volvo V40, was great. However, given no directions to the turn-in location in Stockholm which made the return problematic. Also feel the one-way drop-fee was exorbitant (over 125% of the car rental cost) for returning a Swedish licensed car to Sweden from Denmark. Drop-fees at Gothenburg (much closer to Island of Tjorn) would have been the same as for Stockholm. Also Hertz never called back after having to do requested research during the rental period - we had to call again.

This was our first experience renting and driving a car in Europe. Auto Europe had multiple choices for cars to drive and cost configurations. We chose a Mercedes sedan with automatic shift and with mileage included in the daily rate. We accepted the minimum required liability insurance and declined the extra insurance which would have almost tripled the cost and did not regret it, even though our USA insurance did not cover us in Europe. Our car had low mileage and my only complaint was that Hertz (in the US, I've been a long-time fan) did not properly clean the car's exterior...it really needed a good wash. We picked the car up at Charles de Gaulle airport and had a positive experience, very unlike what I read on the internet which complained about having surly staff, long lines, and having to wait hours for the reserved car. Our staff person was friendly, spoke very good English, and certainly made a competent pitch for the extra insurance, but politely accepted my declination.

My only complaint was where to find the Auto Europe office in Geneva when we got off the train and had only minutes before the office was scheduled to close. We had to divide and conquer to find it... There were NO signs and we had no way of knowing which direction to head in a new city. Even the local police couldn't help us find it. Once there, the agent was phenominal to work with and it was a great experience, but we were so stressed out trying to find their office! SIGNS needed in the train station!

Rented from Europcar twice in 2019. First experience involved car breakdown problems. The company didn’t respond to our calls. We managed to fix the problem without their help. When we returned the car and explained the incident they weren’t interested in listening. Second time using Europcar early September. Arrived at London airport rental centre to pick up. Waited an hour (had not been informed that we could check in online prior to arriving) to finally be assigned a car. Not the make/model vehicle we had contracted to rent. Also, not automatic. Finally resolved but greatly delayed our days travel plans.

The car we rented was a late model Volkswagen which suited our purposes perfectly. Our advice to future renters is to get exact location of rental desk in CDG Paris Airport before leaving home. There are multiple Eurocar desks and lots in “Terminal 2” that are entire concourses apart. (2A to 2G) Unfortunately that means dragging luggage for literally a mile when arriving at the wrong desk. Also walk around your car with the agent and take pictures of the exterior before driving off their lot. Upon return, the Eurocar agent noted a scratch on the bumper that fortunately I had taken a picture of as pre-existing.

We were upgraded due to the car we had requested had no GPS. But returning car there was an error and after a few days we received a notice that we got a ticket in Amsterdam. We were not in Amsterdam and the licence plate was not ours.

Auto Europe was pretty standard when it comes to car rentals. They did not have the nicer car that we paid for, so we had to get a similar, but less nice model when we arrived. Staff was friendly and gave helpful tips on driving and what to expect in terms of any differences from driving in the US. When we were dropping off, they had taken a long break, so we had to wait about 35 minutes until they opened back up and could take our car. Overall, it was an easy provider to use.

Not sure about Auto Europe, but Europcar who provided car was terrible from start to finish.
* Contacting Europcar by phone is almost impossible. No one ever answers the phone. It takes multiple attempts.
* Car at pickup was dirty inside and out. GPS did not work. No WiFi.
* On the second day car did not start. With help from hotel staff contacted Europcar again after several attempts for roadside assistance which took over two hours to arrive. Mechanic started the car, but warned that problem was electrical and might occur again.
* Cancelled plans to visit Mont St. Michel. Drove directly to next destination. At hotel with the help of the concierge arranged to return car.
* Europcar said it would cancel the contract one day early, but insisted on charging E 105 pick-up fee. Still waiting for one day credit.

When we arrived in Rome, they had no information on our car rental. We gave them the reservation number but they literally refused to help us without the invoice (which we didn’t download), My Bad.
I know that without the downloaded invoice it made the rental as little harder to find, but they refused to even try. We ended up going to Avis and had to pay double what we pre-booked and paid.

Our most recent experience with Auto Europe was not satisfactory. Our booking was fully prepaid except for a "one way Fee" to be paid upon vehicle pickup. When we picked up the vehicle in Florence, Italy we were charged an additional fee which we still do not understand. We also had to drag our luggage for several blocks from the check in office to reach the garage where the vehicles were kept and released. The vehicle assignment and release was poorly done, and we discovered after leaving the garage that the fuel tank had not been filled.
We have written to Auto Europe to have these matters reviewed, and we are awaiting response.
In fairness, previous rentals from Auto Europe have been entirely satisfactory.

The car kiosk was difficult to find. I even tried looking it up in line with no success. All written instructions were in Spanish and when we got the car the gps was not explained to us. The vehicle was a lovely late model Mercedes but the staff at the delivery point seemed to be unfamiliar with their own delivery protocols. We received conflicting information about how to pick up the vehicle and the process took a very long time. Upon delivery the navigation system did not work / would not initialize and despite efforts by two of their personnel they and we gave up and we spent the trip in unfamiliar territory without a navigation system. Thanks to our cell service and maps apps we got by. Five kilometers out of the airport the dash told us that a tire was low on air - obviously it had not been monitored by AutoEurope. We had to find a service plaza with air and a gauge and fix it ourselves. Overall we were not satisfied and are not likely to rent from AutoEurope again.

This was her first experience renting a car in Europe. Auto Europe had booked us a vehicle through the rental car company Europcar. We picked up the vehicle in Verona, Italy and dropped it off in Florence, 10 days later. The pick up and drop off went smoothly as the reservations were correctly in place. We received a slight upgrade from a manual Fiat wagon to a Seat wagon with an automatic for no extra cost. The car itself was a little dirty and had a few minor issues (low tire pressures and low oil level), but basically served us very well.

No explanation on operational details for the specific car that I received (i.e. handbreak) - could be dangerous.
The car had GPS - settings were in French (I don't speak French). No explanation on how to input details to the GPS to map locations.

Auto Europe was fine, but I would generally recommend against renting a car when visiting Bergen, especially in December. Parking is a drag and everything is close enough to walk if you're staying near the city centre. My car pretty much sat unused on the street all week and simply racked up daily parking fees.

we missed our connecting flight so we did not make it the day we had booked the car. once we got to Auto office was told that it was now a new day and had no car reserved, ever thou it was paid in full for 2 weeks::(

Auto Europe was fine this trip. However, on two previous trips to Italy, the credit card I used for Auto Europe was hacked. Cannot recommend.

We used Auto Europe for our car rental in Portugal. We were very happy with this choice. While going over the rental contract for the vehicle, there was no pressure to "upgrade", as we've found with other rental agencies. Everyone at Auto Europe was professional, and courteous. The car we rented worked well for our needs, and there were no issues. Upon an earlier AM return to the Airport, the car was quickly inspected, and we walked away with our luggage. We were quite satisfied with the service Auto Europe provided.

We were very happy with our rental car service. We got a brand new car and service both at pick up and return was quality. I went back to same company for a second rental after being so happy with the first that was booked through our travel agent.

Our rental car experience was trouble free with no issues whatsoever. When a car rental goes as expected it is always a good experience. Hawaii had a severe rental car supply and we were happy all went well.

The car was great! We were upgraded and had a great Honda Civic. Everything was great besides the random fees that we were charged at the end. I wish we knew the total cost beforehand, but sounds like this is just how rental car companies are.
