Sustainability
Our Commitment
At The Nautilus, we believe sustainability is paramount in creating a consciously ultra-luxurious environment and experience. We take a holistic approach to this wherever possible, considering all areas, including social, environmental and economic factors.
Preserving Our Evergreen Canvas
Planted with over 20,000 dhun’gethi bushes [clerodendron inerme], the natural green wall at The Nautilus is a sustainable way to provide shade, privacy and a cooling green backdrop to the landscape. At 330 metres long, the largest in the Indian Ocean, the wall is watered either by natural rainfall or, in dryer weather, by reclaimed ‘grey water’ from our state-of-the-art water treatment plant.
Breathing Life Back into Our Timeless Reefs
At The Nautilus, the underwater world that surrounds us is just as important as what we see on the island. That’s why we provide the opportunity for guests to adopt a coral frame. Guests can monitor their adopted coral frame’s growth online through updated images shared by our resident marine biologist regularly.
Weaving Local Heritage into Every Thread
Whether visiting a local island, exploring a local museum, attending the Dhivehi language class or learning ‘boduberu‘, we aim to incorporate Maldivian traditions into as many experiences as possible.
Empowering the Pulse of Our Community
The Nautilus focuses on empowering local talent to succeed and thrive in their roles. By providing them with the necessary resources, training, and support, we aim to ensure that they not only achieve their immediate goals but also excel and reach their full potential.
