Our Commitment to Sustainability:
- JOALI Maldives received multiple sustainability accolades in 2022, including EarthCheck’s Silver Certification and the Maldives President's Tourism Gold Awards for Environmental Sustainability and Excellence in Corporate Social Responsibility.
- Joy of Preserving: In-house initiatives help safeguard the planet. The JOALI Reef Restoration Programme focuses on assisting the natural recovery of coral reefs around the island. Guests can join regular coral planting activities.
- Joy of Supporting: The resort engages with local communities via three avenues: people, business and organisations. The Sustainability Fund is used to support art, education, capacity building, waste management and homegrown enterprises.
- Joy of Empowering: JOALI honours the creative and economic aspirations of women through education and vocational training. The brand’s Leadership & Gender Diversity Program is aligned with the UN Women’s gender equality campaign. JOALI Maldives’ Women in Art initiative offers a platform for emerging local women artists to showcase their talent.
- Joy of Conserving: Everyday choices at the resort are guided by sustainability. Responsible sourcing includes organic produce from the Chef’s Garden and fair-trade tea, coffee and wood products. To minimise single-use plastic, the island has its own glass water bottling plant and wastewater treatment system. Along with LED lights and smart controls in the villas, JOALI Maldives has also launched a pilot project for solar energy.
