Not a great hotel

Terrible service. Overcrowded . Plumbing funky is all the rooms and the power went out several times . One day we got letters as the internet was down telling us that if we needed a valet car to come down at least 45 minutes in advance.... not a hotel I would repeat.

Shelbourne hotel review

The Shelbourne exceeded my expectations with it's service and offerings. The hotel's kitchen was probably one of the best we experienced in all of Ireland. Additionally, they had several lounge / bar area's to enjoy, including an indoor/outdoor location just for hotel guests. The staff were terrific, especially the front desk and housekeeping. The hotel itself is lovely, and the rooms were typical of city hotels (not very big but to be expected). We loved being across the street from St. Stephens green (park) and could walk to Trinity College, Dublin Castle and many site-seeing destinations. We'd be happy to stay at the Shelbourne for every visit to Dublin.

Very nice hotel and outstanding location. Nice staff, friendly and professional. The room was very adequate and at least what one could expect from a 5 star, major city hotel. EXCEPT: Our stay at the Shelbourne was miserable. During the week of our stay the A/C was non-functioning in the entire hotel. Although staff brought fans to our room after we complained on the second day, the room was sweltering. Windows open only a couple inches at the bottom so air circulation was impossible. We understand that hotels experience major mechanical failures. However, this A/C failure was a condition that predated our stay. The hotel should have advised us of this condition at time of check in, and possibly offered to find suitable accommodations within the city. We then could have decided whether to relocate to more comfortable room, or just sweat it out at the Shelbourne.
