São Lourenço do Barrocal
Hotel & Monte Alentejano

More than just the food comes farm-fresh at São Lourenço do Barrocal. There is a natural elegance to the entire lifestyle at this rustic retreat, a family-run, working estate located in southeastern Portugal. Here, guests are invited to hit pause and reset amid the rural Alentejo landscape, wandering among the ancient holm oaks, olive groves, and private vineyard, or perhaps picnicking in a wildflower-filled meadow. The 40 rooms and cottages reveal artisan touches, with handmade-brick floors and an eclectic mix of homey pieces. Spa therapies utilize exclusive cosmetics from the organic Austrian brand Susanne Kaufmann.

Sustainability
Our Commitment
In São Lourenço do Barrocal we are committed to preserving the beauty of local nature and the vernacular architecture of the original set of buildings (a renovation of a 200 years old buildings that took more than 14 years to be completed due to the respectful way in which it was made). We are also undertaking the reinstallment of the simple way of living and of the ancient ways of agriculture. We are therefore also farmers, producing wine and olive oil according to the local traditional methods, and our cattle live freely inside the property's countryside, feeding themselves from the untouched nature. We respect the time and yearly seasons. We are also producers of certified organic vegetables and fruits, but sourcing as well from local producers (most of the food items that we do not produce come from a range of 30km from the estate). One of the strongest commitments is related to the community - our local employment rate is above 90% and we provide training to develop people's skills for the job but also for life.
