Ships

The original Fram was the most famous explorer ship of its time and the achievements of her expeditions are unparalleled. The advanced technology on the MS Fram, in the spirit of the famous original, makes her exceptionally well suited for expedition cruises in polar regions.

MS Fridtjof Nansen, featuring Hurtigruten's revolutionary battery hybrid powered propulsion system, is the latest addition to Hurtigruten’s fleet of custom-built ships – and represents the next generation of expedition ships. She will explore some of the most spectacular corners of the globe.

MS Kong Harald was refurbished in 2016 and now features a modern, Arctic-inspired interior. Onboard are three restaurants, the Multe bakery and ice cream bar, a sauna, and a fitness room. On deck are two hot tubs. The vessel also has the Expedition Team, conference room and shop.

MS Maud, previously MS Midnatsol, is named after one of the most famous polar vessels of all time, Roald Amundsen’s ‘Maud’ from 1917. The original ‘Maud’ got her name from the first Queen of modern-day Norway. She also had her namesake in Hurtigruten’s 1925 flagship DS Dronning Maud.

MS Nordkapp has an onboard Expedition Team who hosts interesting lectures, presentations, and activities inside and out on the sun deck of the ship. On deck you may participate in live points of interest to learn more about the nature, culture, and other phenomena we encounter along the coast.

The art, décor, and colors applied aboard this ship are all inspired by the Northern Lights. MS Nordlys is a comfortable ship. Passengers are invited to kick back after a long day experiencing one of Hurtigruten's many excursions and activities in comfy recliners in the ship’s lounges.

MS Nordnorge has an onboard Expedition Team who hosts interesting lectures, presentations, and activities inside and out on the sun deck of the ship. On deck you may participate in live points of interest to learn more about the nature, culture, and other phenomena we encounter along the coast.

MS Otto Sverdrup is named after the great Norwegian polar hero. He was a key member of polar expeditions and was the captain of the legendary Arctic ship ‘Fram’. Otto Sverdrup was captain on the first Hurtigruten ship MS Lofoten, which sailed from to Norway to Svalbard.

MS Polarlys has an onboard Expedition Team who hosts interesting lectures, presentations, and activities inside and out on the sun deck of the ship. On deck you may participate in live points of interest to learn more about the nature, culture, and other phenomena we encounter along the coast.

When Captain Richard With established the Norwegian Coastal Express in 1893, he made an enormous impact on life along the Norwegian coastline. Relax in one of the ship's panorama lounges and take in unforgettable views of remarkable coastal scenery.

In 2019, Hurtigruten added a brand new ship to its fleet: the MS Roald Amundsen. The state of the art vessel features new and environmentally sustainable hybrid technology that will reduce fuel consumption and show the world that hybrid propulsion on large ships is possible.

When you are exploring the Galápagos Islands with us aboard the MS Santa Cruz II, you’ll enjoy a relaxed atmosphere in premium surroundings. The ship’s small size (with a maximum guest capacity of 90) offers a cozy yet sophisticated environment. It’s easy to feel at home on board.

MS Spitsbergen is named after the crown jewel of Arctic Norway: the Svalbard archipelago and its biggest island, Spitsbergen. The ship features high technical standards and comfortable, modern public areas and cabins. Her fresh Scandinavian design reflects a color palette derived from the sea.

This ship is named after spectacular Trollfjord in the Lofoten Islands, and provides exquisite indoor comfort, modern facilities, and interior design that makes extensive use of Norwegian wood and stone. Its wall-to-wall windows bathe the lounge in natural light and provide extraordinary views.

It was our third time on the Fram. We enjoy the ship. We upgraded to a suite because our cabin (603) was very cramped.

Didn't deliver, weak communications

The cruise line started off badly by offering a rate at a trade show that, when we went to book through our agent the next day, they wouldn't honor. After some time, our excellent agent reached an acceptable result. What stood out about Hurtigruten was their poor communications. When asked to fill out a passenger info sheet (which I did), they said they couldn't find my booking. They wouldn't provide even a tentative itinerary for time of port arrival/departures or even provide boarding instructions (like ship location!) until our agent was able to get it from them several days before departure (and it was still wrong). Rough seas and a failed engine led to a cancellation at our first port of call. To Hurtigruten's credit, they offered a full cash refund which was appreciated. On the positive side, the ship's staff was excellent, especially the hotel staff. In spite of 9 meter swells, they continued to provide service with a great attitude!

I found the Fram to be very comfortable. The food was good, the service was great. I have no complaints.

I was on this exact same ship in Antarctica in Jan/Feb 2020. Ship is amazing. Crew us fantastic. That being said there were definite issues and balls dropped. Captain was aware of issues and was very open to input and suggestions for improvement.
