Sustainability
Our Commitment
The Belmond Train Division in Peru manages programs of corporate social responsibility within the area of influence of the trains (Cusco, Puno and Arequipa). Those programs are focused on assigning resources within three pillars of action that direct our sustainable development objectives: nature, culture, and well-being.
In the programs that we have implemented exist the community greenhouses. Since 2015, we have been training residents of the southern communities of Peru how to build greenhouses and grow organic products. The participants can use their skills to develop new local business, sell their products, and also improve the nutritional value of their family diet.
We also have workshops of artisanal spinning that support the phushkana spinning art of alpaca fiber. This antique phushkana Andean tool reaches to the region where our Andean Explorer train operates.
We support local heroes, people with a great spirit of solidarity and passion for helping the vulnerable children of Peru through the social initiatives that were not 100% complete due to a lack of resources. The initiatives include helping with the education and the professional training to the sanitary assistance, enrichment, and basic human rights. Belmond is engaged in collecting funds for these projects. In 2019, Hiram Bingham train supported an NGO called My Small Help Peru (Mi Pequeña Ayuda Perú) whose purpose is teaching English to children from Ollantaytambo.
