Cliveden House Hotel

Cliveden House Hotel

Behind its stately facade, Cliveden House hides a checkered past. Built 350 years ago for the Duke of Buckingham's mistress and backdrop for the scandalous Profumo affair, this sprawling 48-room estate — set upon 376 National Trust-designated acres — has fostered the illustrious and illicit. It cultivates a cultured stay with antique furnishings, period artworks, four-poster beds and fireplaces; the meticulously tended grounds include a maze and the celebrated Parterre. Take a walk through the woodlands or a dip in the pool before dining in style in The Cliveden Dining Room or for a more informal experience try The Astor Grill.

Hotel Tip

Take a private Thames River cruise on Cliveden’s 100-year-old riverboat with a picnic lunch; or, join others for champagne at sunset –Linda Terrill Atlanta, Georgia.

Special Treat - Cliveden House

By: Smittyken

Reviewed on: 14 Nov 2016

When British Airway offered discounted fares that required an overnight stay we had no idea what a treat that would be. Melissa Reese found the great fare and knew where to have us spend the night. A little place near Heathrow, with a little bit of history. Cliveden House has several books written about the goings on of the place. This grand stately home is twenty minutes from the airport in the Berkshire countryside, surrounded by 376 acres of magnificent National Trust managed Grade 1 listed formal garden and parkland with views of the Thames that go on forever. They took care of us like we were going to be there forever. The next time we stay it will not be an overnight-er.

Cliveden House Stay

It is an excellent "old England" destination hotel. Service, dining, and amenities are all excellent. There were a lot of local visitors and traffic, thus having lunch was basically impossible without advanced reservations.

Words cannot adequately describe Cliveden House. You have to go there to experience it in all its grandeur. Be warned though, you need more than one night at this property!

Elegant manor house

Cliveden was a beautiful and elegant manor house, and the service was outstanding. We got an hour long tour from one of the general managers, who explained the long history of the manor, and took us to places we would not have normally seen. The grounds were gorgeous, our room was beautiful, and the restaurant extremely good. Overall an excellent choice at the edge of the Cotswolds.

No time to enjoy. Was able to walk some of grounds. Delayed in customs back-up at Gateway and over hour to get to there. Arrived at 1:30am and had to change rooms due to 2 flights up to original room assigned with no elevators. Pick up next day at 12 noon. Just a waste of money.
