Celebrating our Culture in Vienna
On the 13th July of every year we celebrate the birthday of Theophil Hansen, the designer and architect of the beautiful Anantara Palais Hansen Vienna Hotel and deliver Birthday cards, amenities and offer complimentary walking tours to our guests who stay with us during his Birthday.
Theophil Edvard Hansen (13 July 1813 - 17 February 1891) was one of Vienna's most important architects. Many of the buildings that characterise the city today were designed by him, including the Parliament, the“Musikverein”, the Stock Exchange and of course, Palais Hansen. Originally from Denmark he lived for eight years in Athens, where he studied the Hellenistic architecture, for which he later became famous. In 1846 he arrived in Vienna and became the most outstanding representative of Viennese historicism. Hansen was very popular with the emperor and the Viennese: in 1866 he was granted Austrian citizenship and in 1883 he was appointed honorary citizen of the city of Vienna.
