UXUA Casa Hotel & Spa

Who says there are no paradises left?

UXUA Casa Hotel & Spa

UXUA is pronounced "Oo-shoo-ah," and the moment you arrive at this boutique hotel, you’ll simply say, "Ahh." In the heart of Trancoso, a fishing village along the Bahian coast, UXUA Casa Hotel & Spa features 12 casas around a garden and the 16th-century town square. Restored by designer Wilbert Das, local artisans used reclaimed materials and local artwork; antique casas feature one to three bedrooms, full kitchens, and open-air bathrooms – some with private plunge pools and Jacuzzis. Relax at the beach lounge, try the Brazilian sport of capoeira or Bahian cooking classes, and follow up with an organic treatment at UXUA Vida Spa.

Hotel Tip

UXUA Vida Lab, a physician-directed wellness initiative, shares Brazil’s incredible biodiversity through boutique nutritional programs.

    Sustainability

    Our Commitment

3-times finalist for Virtuoso’s Sustainable Tourism Leadership Award, UXUA believes authenticity is the world’s greatest luxury. The hotel was founded to celebrate and enrich local heritage, seamlessly integrating with an ancient community; its casas are restored fisherman homes dating to colonial times, the Praia Bar (beach lounge) is built around an abandoned fishing boat – from interior design to culinary offerings everything has tradition in it. Working painstakingly to honor Bahian heritage, UXUA proves that the hospitality industry can be a major driver of sustainable economies.

When designer Wilbert Das arrived in remote Trancoso in 2004, centuries-old traditional crafts were dying off as the town grew more connected to the global economy.

Using pure talent and design innovation combined with techniques learned in 20+ years as a Creative Director of a major Italian fashion label, Wilbert’s team proceeded to imbue locally made craft with enough status and appeal so its production would be lucrative enough for local families to have incentive to continue producing it, a mission accomplished.

UXUA was the first and only Brazilian hotel accepted as a signatory to the UN Global Compact.

Trancoso is a success story of how tourism can actually enrich local cultures instead of eroding them, preserve the environment instead of degrading it.

UXUA is proud of the part it plays in the world, conducting luxury tourism with more than just a conscience, but with a soul.
