Hotel Maria Cristina, a Luxury Collection Hotel, San Sebastian

Built in 1912 for its namesake Spanish queen, Hotel Maria Cristina reclaimed its own nobility after a $25 million renovation. Centrally located and just blocks from pretty La Concha Beach, this belle epoque beauty serves opulence on a silver tray in each of its 136 smartly appointed guestrooms and suites (ask for one with a private balcony). Start a memorable day with a delicious breakfast in the elegant Easo restaurant. For dinner, opt for the country’s finest Asian fare at Café Saigon. The concierge will be happy to organize authentic adventures and private car service to help you explore the area.

Hotel Tip

At the Dry San Sebastián Bar, order a martini and scan the walls lined with photos of the illustrious celebrities who’ve stayed here during the city’s International Film Festival.

A fantastic hotel for sure. Minutes walk away from Old Town and all the attractions. Located right on the river. Impeccable service and a very helpful concierge in Gloria Rodrigo who smoothed over some issues and provided excellent dining advice. As well located as this is, it is also a very quiet hotel at night. Beautifully appointed rooms also. If you are staying in San Sebastian, this is the only place to be. Nothing else comes close.

A beautifully appointed hotel with a convenient location. I'm not sure why the nightly rate was a bit high but it was a wonderful place to stay. My one complaint which I shared with the hotel is that from morning until late afternoon the cleaning crews and their equipment are in plain sight along the hallways making your beautiful surroundings look a bit unkept. We were coming from two other beautiful hotels in Florence and Barcelona where your suite was tended to twice per day yet you never saw a cart or personnel along the way.

Great splurge hotel to stay in the same place as Jagger & DeNiro. Staff is extremely well trained and friendly and hotel itself is beautiful. Great location to explore Donostia.
