What (or not) a Ship

By: Dave and Carolyn

Reviewed on: 15 Mar 2014

The ship was breathtaking and massively large.  Having said that, all traffic was neatly handled by the onboard technology tools, service levels were consistent for this class,  but it did not feel like the true and valued  cruising experiences (17) we've had in the past.  If you cruise on the Oasis, you cruise for the bells and whistles....and  latest of everything, but not for a traditional cruise experience.

Too Big

By: Honey

Reviewed on: 20 Nov 2014

We felt there was too much waiting in line for the shows, even though we had reservations. Hairspray was replaced by Cats, which we hate. The aqua show was rained out twice, so we never got to see it. We felt there was wasted space in our cabin, which was in the freont of the ship, with a slanted window which took up a lot of wasted space and everything else was cramped. The closet wasn't deep enough to accommodate a men's jacket. The selection of food in the buffet was poor and the food not hot enough. Breakfast in the dining room with the buffet and server was terrific. The shows we did see, other than Cats, were wonderful. The service in the dining room wasn't bad, but there weren't enough servers at the buffet.

Relatively smooth embarkation process; disembarkation was a bit more chaotic; consideration that Oasis is one of the biggest ships in port, RCI would work with the shuttle service companies to get a bit better pick up scheduling; since terminal in which the Oasis was docked was the furthest away, we waited for over 45 min for the Budget shuttle; I had a room over Giovanni's, I was very disappointed that the room was not as sound insulated as I thought. The restaurant staff is very active and noisy - especially in the early hours of the morning - 3:30am to 4am time frame; and you can hear all the ruckus; I can only imagine those rooms that is close to the Aqua Theatre....

Quite the luxury experience

By: Melric

We are first time cruisers, so we don't really have anything to compare this to, but it was an extremely beautiful and well-run ship. We'd read how lovely the staff was, but they REALLY were. With the exception of a couple snarky bartenders near the pool, everyone was wonderful. I feel like RC's website could be more friendly towards first-timers (really, how much lingo surrounding meal package selections do you need??) but it all worked out. Based on what we learned from other folks on the ship -- and from people on excursions from other ships -- RC really is the cream of the crop. If we do another cruise in the future (and we're considering it) we'll surely do RC again.

We have sailed on many cruises but never a ship the size of the Oasis. we thought it would be crowded, a mass of humanity and not an experience we wanted for a relaxing vacation. we were completely wrong! The Oasis is a beautifully designed ship with well thought out touches thruout. it has a quality that exceed other vessels we have sailed with a staff to match. Entertainment was exemplary. Food even better! And a MAJOR SURPRISE- it is so large and well designed it was not crowded at all. (The pool was sometimes packed but we could always find other spots were we were all alone.) We stayed on the Oasis even when in port and found on those days we had the ship to ourselves. a GREAT experience that we will repeat soon.

I call for ice never got it the first night and tv wasn't working right,it toke them 2 days to fix that. And it was only the remote. Not enough show times to be able to do everything and not miss a show. Service was not as good as it use to be. I was on the Oasis 2 other times before this. Never got to see the Aqua show because of tech difficulty, know I didn't spell that right. Sorry but our party did not like the Cats. At Chops the filet mignon was a little dry but everything else was okay. Had strawberries one day the rest of the trip they didn't have any. Also I got a bag of chips one time at Central Park Cafe rest of the trip they were out. Don't know if I'll do Oasis again. I will recommend for Royal Caribbean but not Oasis.

Even though this ship was fully booked it never felt crowded. This was not our first time on Oasis and we will be back aboard in March 2017. I was a little disappointed this time in the Windjammer. The selection was not what I would call great and for some reason both sides were not open soon enough when there were crowds which made for difficulty finding a table and long lines trying to get food. One other thing was that we received an email stating that this time we were to get some "delicious cookies" instead of the usual shortbread package. Well we are still waiting for those cookies. Maybe next time in March.

We usually sail on smaller, top of the line cruise ships, but this time we wanted to try something different. Oasis of the Seas now sails out of Port Canaveral, an easy to navigate port, just a two hour drive for us. I didn't know anything about Oasis, other than the fact it was almost 4 football fields long. We only travel suite class. I saw that a 2 bedroom Aqua Suite was available for an upcoming cruise.. I quickly called our travel agent and had him put that suite on hold. He told me that was a deal of a lifetime, a last minute cancellation. Usually, the 2 bedroom suites are reserved for a minimum of 4 people, but this deal was open to 2 people. I booked the cruise and THEN looked into what the suite included. There are only 11 Royal Genie suites onboard Oasis. We were greeted by our Genie at the port and whisked through boarding. Same thing for debarking. Suite was huge with wrap around balcony. All restaurants were speciality and delicious. Amazing Royal treatment.

Owners Suite 11644

By: WorldTraveler

Reviewed on: 28 Jan 2017

This suite is mid-ship on deck 11. It is larger than the split level suites on deck 17 and has a much bigger balcony. Having seen some of the other standard balcony staterooms I would say it is 4 times larger than those with more storage than you could ever use. The only downside was the bathroom was not as big as on Royal or Regal Princess in an owner's suite. The shower in those suites on Princess can hold 2 people easily with room to spare whereas the shower on RCL was so small if you dropped the soap, you could not bend over to pick it up. Otherwise the bathroom was nice with double sinks, marble everywhere and lots of storage. In general the service outside the Suite Lounge was abysmal. We would sit in the Champagne Bar for 1/2 hour with no service offered. When we went up to the cash register to order a glass of wine they would then reluctantly serve us. The staff on Princess Cruise lines are much more attentive and friendly although the RCL staff did seem to speak English well.

The Oasis is now nearly 9 years old and is starting to feel like it. Not so hard to find areas that are obviously in need of maintenance. Still the same shows and the same ridiculously expensive shops. You'll eat well in the specialty restaurants, but may find yourself thinking, as I did, that the food and service in the complimentary venues used to be better. Less variety and particularly annoying that in the MDR they want to take your full order--including desert--when you sit down. Then it feels like they try to get it all out to you quickly. Not terribly relaxing. Felt more like a "get 'em in, get 'em out" dynamic. Generally helpful, friendly crew, but it felt like fewer of them stepping up to say, "How can I help?, Would you like some coffee?" etc. First-timers will still be impressed by the size, novelty and true beauty of some areas of the ship (like Central Park), but for repeat voyagers there may be a sense of "declining by degrees."

This was our 16th cruise and an experiment since we had never sailed on a ship that holds nearly so many passengers. The attraction was the ship itself rather than the itinerary. Overall we were impressed. We were surprised by the number of families with children but did not find it a problem since there was a wide variety of venues designed for distinct ages and interests. The Solarium restricted to age 16 and over was well appointed and we camped there most days. Central Park had beautiful gardens, a pleasant bar, nightly al fresco music, specialty reaurants and a wine bar. The Dazzles music venue and Champagne Bar were outstanding. Production shows on Oasis were very high by cruise ship standards especially Cats. The 5th deck main Promenade was usually very crowded due to shipboard sales events, etc. It’s a big ship so expect a lot of walking. We saw many 3-generation families and thought Oasis especially well designed for such a group with many attractions for children.

Despite being a great destination cruise that provided opportunities to see PR and Haiti, there were many things that would give me pause before sailing again on such a large ship. Overall, the activities had a supply and demand conflict. There werent enough spaces to accommodate guests for shows, skating, zip lining, surfing, sports, port expeditions... IMHO, the staff pales in comparison to the Disney cruise-line. They don’t seem as happy and therefore aren’t going the extra steps to provide warm friendly customer service. Of course we were grateful for the few crew members that rose above and made our vacation memorable with their hospitality and service.

The private shower room was more spacious than expected and had space for toiletries to reside. The ship was very interesting with so many different types of shows and activities. Most were very well done and enjoyable with talented performers. Utilizing a set restaurant for dining each evening allowed the staff to know drink preferences for returns. The menu was varied and offered a variety of appetizer/salad/soup, entree and dessert options which you could order multiples. Breakfasts and lunches were varied with many options offered. The ship was fantastic and the service good. However I was not happy with the drink package policy or the new dining menu and service changes. As a roommate with a diamond member, who gets free drinks in the diamond lounge and has 3 complimentary drinks per day ,I wished to purchase the deluxe drink package as a single and was denied that until on board and the price was significantly higher. Also we were told by Royal Caribbean that a card for 10 drinks could be purchased for $79 on day 4 However they discontinued that offer the day we boarded. I also was unhappy that the rolls at the dinner table are no longer served but put in a basket where everyone at the table is handling them The menu is not as extensive as it was in the past but my biggest complaint is having to order dessert at the same time as my appetizer and meal. I may choose something lighter depending on how full I am after I have eaten my main course. I want the option.

I had a wonderful time on my cruise. Because I booked thru a travel agent, Trish Mercer with Georgia Travel Experts, who helped me get a free "Speciality" Restarunt cause I booked a room with a balcony. The crew was fantastic, especially the dining crew. Chops Restarunt was the finest place I have ever eaten, the steaks were so tender that you could cut them with a fork. The cabin staff were a wonder, I loved the towel animals. Vikor was great with our grandson. No, the trip was not perfect, there are always flaws. Too many people were onboard. The Windjamer was ALWAYS full and difficult to find a seat. The Solarium has NO pool, just a small area to get wet. I loved the Solarium on the Freedom of the Seas. The Restarant in the Solarium on the Oasis was way too fancy. Didn't feel like I could wear a bathing suit in there. There was always a really long line at the ice cream supply on the pool decks too.

I have cruised for many years and after a few cruises in the beginning on other cruise lines, I will only cruise on RC. This was my second cruise on the Oasis. It is a fabulous ship with so many activities and venues to choose from. The food is excellent and RC makes every effort to ensure that passengers have a safe experience. There are Purell stands before entering all venues, including dining rooms, shops, shows, etc. The junior suites are roomy and very well appointed. Our favorite meal was in the Chops Grill, a specialty restaurant in Central Park. There is also a Boardwalk area and a Promenade lined with shops. The entertainment is exceptional, including ice skating shows, aqua and aerial shows, award winning musicals, etc. There is something for everyone. RC's private islands are exceptional. The cruise staff are friendly and accommodating. The disembarkation procedure for all passengers was well organized, smooth, efficient and slightly ahead of designated times.

We had a great family vacation with our was q month old baby. The ship was really clean and well kept, lots of activities. Buffet food lacked quality, normally cold and over cooked or dried out. Specialty restaurants were delicious! Alcohol packages were really expensive and we did not purchase. Based on food preference, we only ate in our dining room once, but it was great. Loved the staff and ports. Great ship for older kids. Lots of activities. We were disappointed we couldn’t take our baby in any pools except a 2” hot water baby pool. He loves swimming and even the kid pool was off limits to babies. We would probably still prefer our Celebrity cruise over Royal Caribbean if we were not travelling with kids just because of the food turn off.

But, there are other venues to eat if you explore, so there are ways to manage it. Know what you're in for and you'll have a better cruise. For us, we prefer a slightly smaller ship.

Perhaps because they are hiring less people who have to do a lot more work. I miss the days of greeting you w/a drink when you get on board & calypso music playing. I don’t like the fact that gratuities are now added on to your seapass account. I also feel that the rewards of being a repeat customer are worse now than they were years ago so it doesn’t make me want to stick w/Royal Caribbean & perhaps try another cruise line

We used the Concierge Lounge and the Coastal Kitchen a lot-awesome perks. I highly recommend booking royal suite class-we were in the Sky class category and it was excellent. Also, the shows were great-especially with the VIP seating area. We enjoyed the shore excursions (Nassau, St. Thomas and St. Maarten) too and found them well organized. We sailed with 2 boys ages 8 and 6 and they enjoyed the kids club as well as the sports court, rock climbing wall and pools. I thought the ship was well laid out and easy to navigate. Oasis of the Seas pro's and con's

We recently sailed on the Oasis of the Seas to the eastern Caribbean. The following is our list of pro's and con's starting with the con's: Buffet was ok, not great not terrible, there is no table drink service but they have a server selling beer and wine. The buffet seating area was not terribly clean. We were offered tours of the ship multiple times at $130 US. We were offered bottled water at an extra cost. We were offered drink packages almost daily at an additional cost. The fine dinning is an extra cost. We were asked multiple times to give a 10 out of 10 review. The movies in your room are all pay. Pros:The food at the main dinning and paid restaurants was excellent. Our cabin steward Aris was excellent, he got to know our routines and was patient and kind with our teenagers. Despite having 6000 passengers the ship did not seem busy or crowded. The shows were great the comedians were funny. The drinks were not overpriced. There is tons of things to do every day for every age.

Good: The dining room food and waiters were top-notch. We had excellent meals and 5-star service. The ship is large and has a ton of people but we rarely felt crowded. The pizza and sandwich shop food was pretty good. Plenty of pool chairs. Shows were the best I've ever seen on a cruise. The beds were super comfortable. I'm seriously considering buying a Royal Caribbean mattress. Bad: The buffets for breakfast and lunch were not great. Fruit was tasteless. Burgers and hot dogs were dry. Desserts weren't sweet. Getting on and off the ship at ports was very unorganized. Mediterranean ports needed a shuttle bus (at extra cost of course) but was not clear on where to get the buses, or more importantly, where to get them to come back. Caribbean ports are much easier.

The ship leadership needs training in customer service and customer satisfaction. There were many small things that all other cruise ships offer and provide that this ship did not. For example there was no soap, shampoo, conditioner, or lotion available in the room for the cruisers. There were no daily news letters. And many of the crew members did not known answers about location of activities or shops. Smoking in the Casino was an absolute big time negative - - it smelled like smoke everywhere and even in the elevators. Many guests avoided the Casio as much as possible because it stinks - - lots of money lost!!
