The Cunard line is our favorite ship line. We are particularly fond of the Queen Mary 2, although we have been on the Queen Victoria and enjoyed it very much, also. We take a cruise every couple of years and it is almost always on a Cunard ship.

My wife and I recently made the crossing on QM2 from New York to Southampton. It was our first "cruise." We were completely satisfied with the experience and are discussing doing it again in a few years, next time from England to the US. If your idea of a happy holiday is to stay in flip-flops, shorts, and T-shirts morning, noon, and night, or if you have small children in need of constant amusement, or if you want to be entertained with rock bands, then QM2 is not for you. The clientele is definitely older, although we saw lots of kids from infants to teenagers, and young couples. Handicapped people will find access to every part of the ship. The crew is phenomenal, helpful, cheerful, etc. Food and staterooms are excellent. Lots to do, but all that you must do is show up for supper at your seating. Utterly relaxing. We loved everything about it.

The remastering of the Kings Court was very well done. We had good service with the breakfast "egg man" who soon learned how my wife liked her egg. i was disappointed in the selection of lecturers on this cruise. "Fashion Week" on the westbound crossing did not have any interest. Jon Sobel gave 2 very informative talks. The ship was cold! My wife wore a sweeter and jacket every time she left the cabin.

Lovely ship. Great cabin steward...always clean and very personable guy. Personnel in the King's Court always seemed to be preoccupied with something else. Witnessed several of the workers run into passengers while they were trying to clear tables, etc. Personnel with carts would never stop for oncoming passenger traffic and keep going whether they ran into you or came close. While eating breakfast several days, personnel proceeded to try to clear and move empty tables to set up for lunch buffet....very disruptive and safety hazard trying to move while still a lot of passenger traffic.....wouldn't it be wiser/safer to move the tables BEFORE breakfast and not risk the hazard?? Would only displace approximately 16 passengers and there are plenty of seats without those. Entertainment and lecturers were good but not exceptional or fabulous.

We had a lovely time on our recent trans-Atlantic crossing on the QM2. The dining staff and other employees were very helpful and friendly. The ship is beautiful. Since we were also on the ship for an additional week of touring the British Isles, we were able to experience some of their shore excursions. I feel that this was their weak link. The tour sites were very interesting but the scheduling to get the passengers on and off on tender required days was very disappointing. They did not seem to have the personnel ready to check the passengers in and get them to the tenders which meant long waiting lines just to get into the areas to wait for your turn to leave the ship. I am sure this problem will be corrected. Other than that, our experience was delightful.

The ship seemed crowded with more passengers and fewer crew. Service and was not up to Cunard's usual high standards. The refrigerator in our room stopped working and the A/C vent produced a stream of black soot which settled on the bed, but two requests for service, one to the purser, one to our room steward, were ignored. The cabin curtain was too narrow and let light in. Buying a piece of chocolate at the new Godiva Chocolate Bar was a convoluted affair. You were supposed to sit down at a table and order from a menu. Reconfigured King's Court is just as confusing as the old King's Court. There is nothing to distinguish the serving stations. We were dozing in deck chairs when one of the ship's photographers woke us to take our pictures. Did not seem like a luxury cruise. More Carnival than Cunard.

2nd trip on QM2. A totally different level than the cruise lines we have been on. More sedate and refined than cruise ships. Level of activities is excellent - fascinating and engaging. Definitely geared to passengers who want a comfortable voyage. The cabin steward and restaurant staff were quietly friendly and helpful with requests. I availed myself of the services of the accpuncturist in the spa, and he has given me a new life. The public areas are spacious and beautiful, our balcony cabin was perfect, the Britannia dining room was elegant but not stuffy. All told, it was a wonderful experience. This was our 2nd trip on the QM2, and we have recently booked another for the Fall.

We like breakfast in the Chef's Corner with all its healthy alternatives. Dinner in the Britannia was good with maybe a tough steak. otherwise all was well. We were treated to dinner in the Verandah one evening and it was very special. I had the grilled lobster - excellent! I like the fancy dishes and special presentations in the Verandah. Always enjoy the planetarium but some seats need to be repaired. Would like to see darker print in the hymnal and the daily newsletter. Eyes are getting older.

We really enjoyed Cunard's Queen Mary 2 transatlantic-NYC to Southampton. Some cruises have a special theme and we had the National Symphony Orchestra. They held three concerts-all outstanding. Regular ship's entertainment was among best we've seen. Ship's dancers and singers, string quartets, concert pianist, harpist, lectures on various topics, bridge and poker, etc.--it was all nicely done. Formality was higher-three formal nights and men in jackets every night (without tie is OK)-if you want to stay informal no problem-just eat in buffet. Enjoyed the balls associated with formal nights, especially masquerade ball. Dancing every night. Our cabin was nice but next time a balcony. Food was good but not a standout. Shopping wasn't as extensive as we've seen-couple higher end shops. Ship just wasn't as crowded as we have experienced on other cruise lines (Viking is best we've seen but quite a bit smaller). Check in was slow, slow! We were too busy to miss having port visits.

Having sailed the Atlantic 3x on QM2 - this cruise was a very different experience. A whole different vibe - in some ways not unlike the several other cruises we were on with other lines. Yet this "cruise" on the QM2 was at a much higher level in both character and quality - as one would expect of the QM2. The shore excursions were head and shoulders above any others we have been on. These were not just short scenic bus rides and then extended "shopping." We actually spent the whole time visiting new places and having interesting experiences - and we did and saw some fascinating things. Best "cruise" we have ever been on!! And it was all wrapped up in the world of the QM2.

I had a great time. The stateroom was very comfortable and I realized I could easily go down to inside room but they sell out faster than any other rooms. I have never been a person who likes formal dressing mostly because I hate the room it takes up in my luggage. But my fellow passengers loved dressing up and they looked great. I slid by with a navy silk dress, 2 dressy jackets and a shawl but I felt I let my table down a little. I was amazed and delighted with how good the food and what nice travelers I met. The excellent organization on board from cleaning the rooms ( I loved Joy) . very professional service in the restaurant and in the cafeteria style Kings Court. Also you might be almost in a hotel but the crew was always about doing whatever seamen do on a boat so you knew this was a first rate ship!!

A Very Nice Experience for Mature Adults
Reviewed on: 23 Nov 2017
It'a a very nice ship, offers an array of activities (lectures, shows, classes, etc.) and the service is very good. But two things stand out. One is the quality of the food, particularly the seafood. We consistently had superb fish and in the buffet area I had the best mussels ever - better than even in Belgium. The other thing that stands out is the type of passengers. They are for the most part mature individuals from a number of countries. You will not find a bunch of children running everywhere or out of control young people. This is basically a ship with a lot of class.

The elegance of the ship - the attentiveness and graciousness of the staff - the scope and high level of the lectures - and the variety and talent of the musical performers and shows - all combined to bring us out of our normal lives and for too short a time gave us a feeling of a very special place in the world. The cruise ship was well laid out and comfortable. Dining room service and food was excellent, buffet restaurant was adequate, with food that was acceptable and service that was slow. Often there was no cutlery or coffee cups, so you had to wander around the restaurant searching out tables that still had residual cups and cutlery. Lecture series were fair to excellent depending on the speaker, but there were often large gaps with little to do especially between 3 and 7 p.m.

Queen Mary 2--Mixed Review
Reviewed on: 04 Dec 2017
I returned from the QM2 and was very glad to arrive in NYC on Nov. 26. While the ship is beautiful, the service impeccable, and the food delicious, the crossing had several serious disappointments. I was disappointed with the entertainment, lectures, etc. I felt that the program was too "science oriented," and the program did not take into account the age and background of the passengers; e.g., one of the major programs featured portions of musicals which included Miss Saigon and many pictures of the Vietnam era which were very inappropriate for the audience. I did not applaud, and I saw that many others did not, either. Also, I felt that the motion pictures were not age appropriate for their intended audience. I would estimate that 80+% of the passengers were over 60, and much of the entertainment was geared to a younger and more active audience. In conclusion, while I liked my stateroom and the food and service were excellent, I would probably not do another crossing.
Great expectation but great disappointment.
