Oceania went well beyond anything I could have ever imagined to make my 16-day Panama Canal cruise from Miami to Los Angeles aboard the Regatta an exceptional one! I am not a novice to both business and pleasure travel, having been to over 35 countries. Service was exceptional in all shipboard venues I experienced, which I can only believe would be true throughout the entire Oceania Cruise Line fleet. Pampered, yes! Pleased beyond belief, absolutely!

Oceania is known for its excellent dining options. It did not fail. The specialty restaurants, particularly Toscana, were outstanding. We liked the option to pay one price in advance to cover the majority of shore excursions; those that were included were discounted. The rooms are tiny unless you upgrade to a suite. They fit us fine but would not be adequate for many people.

excellent cruise on regatta. One flaw:We were told to be out of our staterooms at 8am on the morning of disembarkment. Most people packed up and went for final breakfast before returning to staterooms to get luggage by 8am as requested.Well what a surprise we all got as we returned to our staterooms between around 7:45 and 8am. The TOILETS had been turned off. We were not told this would happen! And we did not know till we tried to flush the toilet and discovered it wasn't working. The whole time on the cruise sanitation had been pointed out to us, yet this final morning was NOT very sanitized! Then we were told that the public restrooms were open. Well some were and some were not! Pretty messy, pardon the pun. This was the only flaw. The Regatta was wonderful and crew wonderful other then toilet fiasco on last morning.

The ship is a perfect size so that you don't feel like cattle when going ashore It does need to work on the entertainment aspect. Too much opera and more modern music to dance to. It seemed when the band stopped playing and they used recorded music more people got up to dance. The chef, Mario, was such a delight. Great to meet the man behind the great food I was eating. The captain also had a sense of humor which made things interesting. He kept us informed of everything that was going on.

At the suggestion of our travel agent, we decided to try Oceania and were very pleased that we did. While we experienced a very frustrating baggage loss (our 3 bags weren't obtained until Day 7 of our 12-day cruise), that wasn't the fault of Oceania. Their Executive Concierge, Robert Kinkhorst, and General Manager, Carlo Gunetti, went out of their way every day to help us retrieve our bags. Meanwhile we enjoyed all the ship's amenities and several wonderful excursions in the Caribbean Islands. We found the smaller ship a most enjoyable size. Although there wasn't much on-board shopping (one boutique), there was lots to find on shore. The staff was outstanding, especially Edi (our Room Steward), as for over 6 days we literally had to have our clothes cleaned every night and returned early the next morning so we'd have something to wear. With my electric shaver in my bag I grew to appreciate beards; not so my wife. We would highly recommend Oceania and the “Regatta”!

We have had good experiences with Oceania in the past. However, we would give this cruise mixed reviews. First, the Regatta experienced a norvirus outbreak which they seemed to have difficulty getting under control. Second, some of the ports of call were not even worth a stop. Shore excursion management was erratic with long wait times. Many of the shore excursions involved too much time on a bus or boat with little opportunity to really appreciate the locale. Third, the shipboard shows were a disaster. The ship only offered one show each evening. Seating in the lounge was inadequate resulting in people either leaving without seeing the show or standing throughout. In addition, the lounge is poorly designed for show viewing. If you were not in the first two rows, it was difficult to see. Lastly, the cuisine was not up to Oceania standards. Food was fair to good. By the last week of the cruise the lettuce being served was brown and some dishes were obviously prepared ahead of time.

We enjoyed the ship. The service was satisfactory but sometimes spotty. I'm sort of spoiled having just been on the Crystal back in April. On the crystal, the servers on the deck and in the breakfast buffet, almost hover over you. They anticipate your needs before you even have to ask. That's not always true on Oceania. Also, there are not enough smoking area's on the Regatta.

The relaxed atmosphere and a genuinely happy staff provided us with a rejuvenating vacation. While there were many bumps along the wayor perhaps I should say waves in the sea, the cruise was delightful. (late port arrivals due to missing ship parts, hurricane avoidance, boiler/water issues). The captain and staff promptly kept us informed if and when there were issues and did their very, and speedy best, to resolve problems. Best of all - I never heard my pet peeve spoken once by any of the staff! (I just abhor the phrase - "no problem" when making a request; 12 days without hearing anyone say 'no problem' was just AWESOME!) Loved the food, drinks, spa, high tea, buffet, specialty restaurants, grill, dining room, laundry, on board activities, excursions. Did not try the room service - perhaps next time. Would have preferred that both of us could be on internet at same time but it was not difficult to map out our own on-line times.

IT IS A FRIENDLY AND EAGER TO PLEASE CRUISE LINE AND WE HOPE TO CONTINUE TO SAIL WITH OCIEANIA IN THE FUTURE. I WAS EXTREMELY IMPRESSED THIS TRIP BY OCEANIA'S ATTENTION TO SANITATION AND THE HEALTH ISSUES OF GUESTS WITH MANY AVAILABLE SANITATION STATIONS AND URGING TO WASH HANDS. ONE AREA WHERE WE NOTICED SOME CHANGE SINCE THEY HAVE BEEN COMBINED WITH NCL, IS THAT THE FOOD QUALITY CAN VARY SOMETIMES VERY GOOD AND OTHER TIMES, LESS THAN WHAT WE HAVE COME TO EXPECT FROM OCEANIA. ALSO, THEY ARE NOW CUTTING UP THE FOOD INTO TOO SMALL PLATES....THERE MAY BE MANY CHOICES, BUT THE PRESENTATION IS RATHER UNAPPEALING AND TOO SAUCED. THEY ALWAYS HAD QUALITY, DIRECT FOOD OFFERINGS RATHER THAN THESE BITS AND PIECES. WE DO NOT THINK THIS IS AN ENHANCEMENT.

Oceania cruises is our favourite cruise line. We love the size of the Regatta as it holds 675 or so passengers. This makes it easy on & off at the ports. The boarding process was easy and organized & a lovely buffet ready while the cabins were being prepared. The food was exceptional, the staff went above & beyond to please. Oceania appreciates its returning guests & rewards them well. Oceania offers an elegant afternoon tea that I have never seen on any other cruise line. Wate and ice were always in our room and a bar fridge with soda was well stocked with the variety requested. Water was free and available at the gangway every time we went ashore. The variety of shows was good with some great talent. On this particular cruise, we had a wonderful cruise director that kept us entertained & informed always. We had lots of laughs and met some great people. There were a few families onboard but I feel the Regatta is enjoyed more by the 35 & over age due to the size.

The ship is smaller than others I've been on (680 passengers). I felt the cabin was quite small and bathroom adequate. The food and public spaces were excellent. We had several sea days but we were kept busy and entertained. I felt 8 days was a little too long in the Amazon but possibly the strong currents made that necessary. Many of the passengers were quite elderly which made the cruise less spirited. I wish we had more time in Rio. During Carnavale it would have been nice to see Rio in a more organized way.

To quote Dickens, "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times". OK, maybe not the worst, but it did start off poorly: We were in a concierge suite which gives priority boarding and luggage delivery to the stateroom. We were not informed by Oceania that the ship had been placed on Code Red, level 3 medical precautions prior to arriving at our departure port due to numerous cases of gastroenteritis on the prior sailing. As a result they spent hours disinfecting the ship after the previous guests departed. We were told that our noon embarkation would be delayed to 1 pm. We actually got on the ship at 3:30pm and finally saw our luggage at around 8pm. The normal range of activities were greatly curtailed and anything that could be handled by many people was unavailable, e.g. no library books, golf clubs, bingo cards, no salt, pepper, butter on the tables, everything in the buffet was dished up by crew wearing latex gloves. Despite this the cruise was great; not a 10, OK maybe an 8.

The staff on the Regatta could not have been any better! The ship, however, was on Code Red, Level 2 when we boarded and that went on for about 11 of our 16 days. Having cruised many times before, we definitely noticed the difference that this made on our cruise. The main reason we would not recommend this ship is because it is just a little too small with only 2 specialty restaurants. We love the Marina and Riveria with the 4 specialty restaurants and just a little more going on. Just a personal preference.

The Regatta is a smaller ship and the passengers and crew have chance to get more acquainted with each other. The service seems more personal and we enjoyed it. Having said that the smaller boats lack conceriege lounge, art room, and the Gym was not as nice as the larger ships. Regatta is beginning to show her age within the Oceania fleet. However the crew could not have been any better. I think that the speciality restaurants (Polo & Tosconia) need to change and update their menu's, pretty much the same when we sailed with them 5 years ago.

This was our 5th cruise to Alaska (we live in Seattle), but our first on Oceania. We enjoyed the smaller ship which offered exceptional meals and service. The cabin felt a bit smaller than the Celebrity cabins that we are used to, but they measure the same. The bathrooms are smaller and the showers, tiny. There is, however, plenty of storage space. The atmosphere on board was friendly, unrushed, and comfortable throughout the ship. The entertainers were very talented. Loved the string quartet. No lavish production shows, but we were well entertained each night. The only real drawback is the Regatta lounge. If you don't get a seat early (about 1/2 hours before show time) you won't get a seat that will allow you to see the dance floor. Not a problem with the standup comedian, but a real disappointment if you want to see the dancers. Overall, loved their emphasis on sanitation from the complimentary spray antibacterial soap to the shoe mat wash before coming aboard. Thank you Oceania!

poor - ship experienced a propulsion failure approximately 10 miles from Honolulu with a subsequent delay of 3 days. This resulted in the itinerary being shortened with a number of stops eliminated which was very disappointing. The major criticism with the cruise line is that they did not keep the passengers informed as to what was happening and what the cause of the failure was. Offer of compensation was very limited. Outside of the above, the cruise had too many sea days. Also found the Marina to be a better size and good proportions.
Reviewed on: 27 Nov 2017
Oceania failed to deliver on all fronts during this cruise. We picked this itinerary because it called on ports in Hawaii and in French Polynesia. The Regatta broke down after Honolulu our first stop and had to be towed back to port for three days of repairs. This necessitated the ports we stopped at be cut by half. We missed the rest of the Hawaii altogether and one island in French Polynesia. There were too many days at sea as a result. We understand mechanical problems can happen however this long stopover ruined our cruise. The flight home arranged by Oceania was late therefore all connections were missed. We were notified this would happen the night before departure. No sleep was had. The compensation for all of the inconvenience was inadequate and after this experience we will never collect it. So sad.
Not quite 5 Star
Reviewed on: 17 Dec 2017
Although the food and bedding is 5 Star, most of the entertainment is not up to par with a similar cruise line such as Asamara. The young entertainers were not used efficiently. They wanted to perform more, so feature them. They probably cost less than the people brought on board. Cruise Director, Julie, on Regatta was superb! AC was COLD! Make the cruise all-inclusive like Azamara. $800. Credit sounds good but one keeps checking to see how much is left. Excursions were over-priced. I was told that because I booked all my flights through a Oceania I would get taken from the airport to the ship, so when we arrived at midnight we couldn’t find any representatives from the ship to let us know that we needed to get a taxi. After exiting the taxi, we did not know which direction to go to get to the ship. When we arrived at security they did not have our names.

A cruise full of mishaps
Reviewed on: 29 Apr 2018
This cruise was full of mishaps. It started with 3 days of norovirus protocol which meant slow service, exhausted waiters, closed laundry, library and casino. Next, a medical emergency caused the ship to turn back to Hawaii. We lost 2 days, missed 2 ports completely and had 2 others cut short. While none of this was anyone’s fault the result was a shortened itinerary without some of our most desirable ports. Also communication of events was lacking. So far Oceania’s only response was a happy hour. The ship is old and while it looks nice, the showers are very small and the theater needs to be reworked. The positive is the food was very good, the service after the norovirus had past was extremely good, the cruise director was excellent and the passengers the nicest group of people.

The comedian had the same old jokes he had on the Marina in the Med where we last traveled on Oceania. Three days at sea is too much for a 6 Day Cruise.

It was a lovely ship with old world charm. Enjoyed the decor on board. Enjoyed having s cabin at the front of the ship. The TV channel view for inside cabins was the same as our actual view. Food was great & staff extremely courteous & friendly. Wish I had taken my own pillow though. Met nice people on board. Had great weather except foggy at sea. So many people 70+ doing a bucket list check off it felt like being in a retirement home at sea.

Great food, excellent but expensive excursions, and OK entertainment. The cruise itinerary was outstanding, visiting all that Alaska has to offer. One very big disappointment was the 3-day pre-cruise land excursion to Denali National Park. We had an excellent tour director, but the tour itself was very overpriced, and the sequence and duration of bus and airline travel to get to Denali was very poor. Don't book this as advertised. Use another vendor, and then take the Oceanea Cruise.

I haven’t stopped bragging about our cruise since we got home. We are not “cruisers” so it was out of our norm to sign up for the Alaska Inside Passage cruise. We also signed up for four excursions. We liked being on a smaller ship and having two specialty restaurants was just enough for variety. The food was spectacular! The mattress = heavenly. Service = very personalized. It was a trip of a lifetime.

The cabin was too small for two people. We couldn't pass each other at the end of the beds. Service in the dining room was frequently surly and hurried, particularly when being seated. The chairs were regularly pushed in prematurely while a napkin was stuffed into our laps while a large menu arrived--all at once. Land trips were well managed. Daily room service was excellent food choice was luxurious, but there was a deplorable waste by the size of servings, bread trays left on the table despite our refusal when queried about wanting bread.

The rooms are very small making it more challenging than expected. Service, however, was excellent, as was the food in the Grand Dining Room. The two specialty restaurants were disappointing.
Not happy with Regatta
Reviewed on: 04 Oct 2018
We love Oceania, as this was our #6 cruise with them. I must say, Regatta has been our least favorite ship. It desperately needs to be re-done. There were so many sick people onboard, I think the poor air re-circulation was part of the problem. I managed to come home with pneumonia, and I don't touch anything, wash constantly and pretty much stay away from anyone that appears ill. So many things were in ill repair, the ship was not up to Oceania standards. The staff, however, was totally awesome, truly Oceania wonderful!!!

A very good cruise line, but not quite up to the level of service and food quality we were expecting, Find their prices for tours etc high, and ships a little dated. All staff provided excellent service, especially front line workers. After ship refurbishments will consider them again. Specialty restaurants were excellent. Wine and liquor prices a little high. Itinerary, and destinations were very good, glad to be able to say I have been there.

My time aboard the Regatta was similar if not better than being treated like a Royal Prince would be treated. One only has to go on a Regatta cruise once to fall in love with such a way of being fed and pampered. Never mind the great places to which the ship sails.

Trip with Regatta
Reviewed on: 14 Oct 2018
Oceania is a very well run cruise company, and the service on board was excellent. However, I am not sure that we would sail on board the "Regatta" again, since the ship broke down, lost all power, when we were just south of 60 degrees north. Fortunately the sea was calm and the wind very light, and after drifting for two hours, the crew managed to restore the power, and there were no further problems on the voyage. This was disconcerting as we had learned that the "Regatta" was broken down for five days on a cruise during 2017. At 60 degrees north we were quite a long way from the nearest tug.
We have been on better lines.

1. Loud noises in the middle of the night that shook our suite. Nobody could tell us why the noises/shaking went on for several hours. 2. Lousy wifi. Had to sign in each day, and could use only one electronic item at a time. (we had 2 iPhones and an iPad). 3. Poor lighting in the living room of our suite; hard to read a book or magazine after dark. 4. Had only two good entertainers after dinner--a comedian and ventriloquist. 5. Long hall floor to our suite was uneven; had holes or other problems that gave us reason to hang onto the handrails. 6. Food was good but certainly not outstanding; seems like menu was repetitious in the main dining room. Buffet was better. 7. Shore excursion transportation minimal. One was an old school bus for elementary students (limited leg room). Another apparently had problems defogging windows so we could see out. And one trip had the temp set at 40 degrees! 8. We didn't go to Juneau; they said it was too windy! 9. see next page in email.

First, the good: My suite attendant and butler were excellent! Now the rest: Ship was "old and tired" (as were most of the passengers). Front desk staff and Excursion staff while pleasant, were unable to resolve issues without contacting the home office in Miami. Very little activities on board and sub-par entertainment quality. Food ran the gamut from OK to very good, but was inconsistent. Excursions were expensive, not very diverse and sold out quickly, not leaving many options. The captain's daily drone always had a negative tone.

Oceania was a great disappointment. They don't like to tender, so we missed the port for which we took the trip, gave us instead four consecutive sea days, no alternate port. We did not fly half way around world ( to Australia) to have sea days. Crew was great, but staff and officers gave the impression that it was a real bother having passengers aboard. Challenged anything we said -- the customer is always wrong attitude. Food was good most of the time, however spotty. In over 300 days of cruising, first time we had inedible food served to us. (Fish you could not cut with a fish knife). Lecturers were fabulous. Too bad rest of staff was not. Promise all kinds of things if you pay for Concierge level cabin. There is no concierge. Free laundry means clean but wrinkled -- they don't press anything. Beware. We felt that Oceania was good on promises, poor on delivery. Written request for meeting with management on day 3 went ignored for balance of 19 day trip.

Oceania Cruises Are Terrific!

This is the second Oceania cruise that we’ve taken. Both times have been terrific. I’d say Marina is much newer and has more specialty restaurants, which is a definite bonus. However, the staff and food at the specialty restaurants was fabulous. The food at the main dining room was good but not exceptional. We dined at Polo and Toscana as many times as possible. Polo was great but Toscana was outstanding. My husband and I are foodies, so excellent food and staff are very important to us. The staff on Oceania were terrific regardless of at which restaurant we dined, but the food at Toscana was delightful. Wine stewards were wonderful, our cabin steward was fabulous, etc. We hope to go on another Oceania cruise in the near future.
