Baja California and the Sea of Cortez: Among the Great Whales

I accompanied a friend on this trip - a lifetime desire for her to see whales up close, in their environment - but I had no idea the magic that I would find. Everything about this trip was amazing to me - Baja itself, the Sea of Cortez, the islands we visited, the animals we encountered ( I did not know that touching whales would be happening! ), all the information that was so enthusiastically shared by the staff, living in a cabin of built in furniture, delicious food served by interested and interesting people, starting the days w/ Qi Gong and stretching on deck, all the things we saw and did, the daily recaps with staff and fellow passengers, evenings of cooks outs on the beach or watching a live band performing. Each day unfolded for me in ways I did not expect in the best way possible. Life on the Sea Bird was wonderful. I look forward to my next Lindblad adventure.

The Sea Bird accommodates a maximum of 62 passengers and was able to access areas that other cruise ships could not. It was a wonderful base from which to explore the Alaskan wilderness. The naturalists on board were so knowledgeable, and also personable, and add a great deal to our experience. The meals were excellent and we were well taken care of.

I was disappointed by the set up in the Sea Bird. I realize this needs to be a small ship to get into some of the places we visit, but while the space utilization is ingenious in the rooms, there is no desk or chair to sit on and the public spaces are quite crowded so it is hard to have any "quite time". The itinerary was great and the naturalists are quite knowledgeable but I was disappointed in the accommodations, especially given the price I paid.
