The Yangtze River Cruise was educational and adventurous. I sailed The Century Paragon with its modern accommodations. (Not listed as a choice above.) The lodging was comfortable and clean. I would suggest having more staff that are fluent English speakers. Communication was difficult at times.

This was our 2nd Avalon cruise and there were some obvious (less than positive) differences. The food was less interesting and portions significantly smaller. The only exceptional dinner was the "Gala Dinner" evening. Other than that, the wines were less interesting and servers were conservative in amounts served. The 'Gala Evening' turned out to be another too casual evening as most tour buses were late in returning from a long day of excursion thus travelers were advised to come casual. Gone was the entertainment by the crew which was so enjoyed on our previous cruise with Avalon. Our servers were mediocre (with the exception of James) and one was even surly and another quite inexperienced. The excursion guides were mediocre except for the superb guide on our Bruges and Ghent tours. On a positive note, our room was well planned with more than enough storage and housekeeping was excellent.

Food, service and cabin all exceeded expectations. In ports we were too often the 2 nd or 3 rd ship in line so could not open my curtain to see shore. Danube was too high for the second half of the cruise to continue so we were stuck in Englehartzel Austria and bussed to other destinations...disappointing. It was the call of the Captain not to,continue farther upstream. The exhaust fumes one night were almost suffocating from the adjacent ship in port; several cabins affected. Entertainment on board was good but I would have enjoyed more local performers at night.

The ship was amazing. It is clean and functional; and just the right size -with a capacity for approximately 170 people. It has all the conveniences we needed. And the rooms are a very good size - much roomier than I anticipated.

Physically demanding trip

The Danube river cruise was quite physically demanding because of all the uphill walking on cobblestones and very lengthy walks in the larger cities. We managed just fine but I don’t know how some of the people did it. The ship herself was fine. One very major flaw however was the very inefficient air conditioning. Twice they had to put floor fans in the dining room. When the sun was on our side of the ship we had to keep our blinds closed because the windows and the room got so hot. I felt that the meals were not memorable at all. Most evenings I ended up ordering the plain broiled chicken breast (always on the menu) because the fish they served (from frozen) was very fishy tasting, I didn’t care for the choice of meat or the vegetarian option did not appeal to me. Our cruise director was a bright spot on this cruise as she was always looking out for the passengers’ best interests. The service was wonderful.

The ship, crew, staff, cruise director and the location were all outstanding. We would definitely do another river cruise. The only knock is they did not handle changes due to water levers well at all. We called the day before we left and talked to their customer service and were told everything was fine. We arrive a day later and were told it wasn’t fine, they changed our first destination and said they had told our travel agents. The day they said they made the decision was the day before we called. We were not notified by our travel agent and their customer service personnel were not aware.

We were pleased with the overall condition and appearance of the ship. The staff were friendly and welcoming. Our tour guide Tony, was very pleasant. His knowledge of the various sites and history of the areas we visited, was astonishing. He was always available to answer questions and resolve issues. We found the dining room lacking in atmosphere. By this I mean the lights were too bright and the room was very noisy. It was more like a banquet hall than a dinning room. Some of the servers seemed to be rushing us but they were all friendly. We normally like to take our time to dine. Some of the menu choices were odd i.e., (raw/rare leg of lamb). Overall the meals were okay but not memorable. On the last night, the staff were paraded thro the dinning room for our applause and we were encouraged to leave a tip for the various workers. I didn’t think it was necessary to interrupt our evening to do that. Thank you for receiving my feedback. I hope it appreciated.

We loved the Panorama and our cabin. The crew was very good. We particularly enjoyed the travel through the Gorge and the beautiful castles along the way. A lovely and relaxing afternoon on board the boat. The daily walking tours etc. were great and the local guides always friendly, knowledgeable and group sizes very manageable. We enthusiastically recommend Avalon to friends!

Took a Rhine River cruise on the Avalon Panorama. The ship was clean and well maintained. The state rooms were of acceptable size. The bathroom showers were excellent, making use of the angled separating wall to provide more elbow room in the shower. The full height sliding windows/doors gave an open air experience while traveling on the river. Meals were good, but not necessarily a culinary experience. The maitre d' was very helpful in identifying what I could and could not eat at each daily buffet given my dietary issues. Servers also were well versed in dealing with dietary issues.
