We chose the Seabourn Quest because of the unique itinerary of Antarctic landings from an ultra luxury ship. We were not disappointed. This was both the usual Seabourn "over the top" level of service, combined with an unbelievable adventure experience. The amount of organization and the level of expertise of the expedition staff was of the highest quality. Six landings by zodiac were made at six separate sites in the South Shetland Islands and on the Antarctic Peninsula. We experienced calm seas and we experienced rough (very rough) seas, and enjoyed every minute. Cannot say enough about the cruise and the ship and the staff and the company.

24-day Antarctica cruise with great friends

By: RalphGS

What a superb cruise to an unusual destination! My wife & I travelled with great friends for 24 days from Valparaiso, Chile, to Buenos Aires, Argentina. We spent six days at various points on Antarctica's Western Peninsula & three days on South Georgia [island]. Scenery & animals were spectacular: mountains, glaciers, icebergs, penguins, seals, whales............ The expeditions ashore via zodiac boats were all different, & they were all executed like clockwork. by an outstanding expedition team. This was our 8th cruise with Seabourn, who continue to do a virtually flawless job of caring for their passengers. This cruise was an unusual combination of luxury & adventure.

There aren't enough superlatives to describe our recent cruise to Antarctica and Patagonia on the Seabourn Quest. The Seabourn experience is well known. There were many items which stood out on this cruise. First was the food in every restaurant for every meal. The variety and taste was amazing. Second, the service matched the food in excellence. Third and perhaps the most outstanding was the expedition staff which Seabourn assembled for this trip. Every one was an expert who enlightened us in an enthusiastic and professional way on all aspects of the destination...whales, seals, penguins, seabirds, geology, history, etc. They even provided two expert photographers who couldn't have been more helpful. Finally, it starts at the top, and flows from the captain, Bjarne Larsen. Prepared and on top of everything, all conducted in a calm professional manner. Kudos to all.

The Seabourn Quest was outstanding

By: Swiss Miss

Reviewed on: 02 Mar 2015

This was the best cruise we have ever been on. Everyone on the ship was top notch especially the Expedition Crew. The lectures were all great and extremely educational. The two main restaurants were outstanding. Restaurant 2 tried to be a bit too eclectic but the food was fine. There was a huge variety in the food and it was all excellent. The captain was very creative. Since the crossing of the Drake passage was so smooth, we arrived in Antarctica a day early. The captain was took us through beautiful passages. He always informed us if there were whales and he slowed the ship so we could enjoy the wild life. As we passed huge Tabular icebergs, he would circle the icebergs so that we could get a full perspective. The Drake passage was relatively smooth on the way back, so, before heading north, the captain took the ship farther south in Antarctica than any Seabourn ship had ever been. It was spectacular. He gave us a memento of how far we had gone.

Fall glory aboard Seabourn

Our trip was perfect from beginning to end, despite some colder-than-normal weather. We had two wonderful nights at the Ritz-Carolton Montreal. Thanks to our Virtuoso advisor, Kathleen Sutter, we got a room upgrade, free breakfasts and a $100 credit. We were first-time Seabourn travelers, and I was a bit apprehensive that it might be too stuffy. But it was elegantly casual, and the passengers we met were delightful and had fascinating backgrounds. I particularly loved Seabourn Square, the cozy heart of the ship where people gathered to sip coffee, read in the library or just to chat. Our cruise director, Handre, set the perfect tone with his understated charm and wit. We saw glorious fall foliage on excursions in Quebec, Nova Scotia, and most particularly Bar Harbor, where the red maples were on fire! We were so impressed with this line that, while on board, we put down a deposit on a future cruise.

The accommodations are excellent and the food is superb but the reason that we will keep coming back is the unique and personalized service that Seabourn provides to all if it's guests. Being addressed by name almost immediately upon arrival is a great touch from Seabourn. Our friends did have a minor issue in their cabin (very slow hot water) but that was finally corrected. The guests on the cruise that we met and got to know were all very nice and friendly and were from many areas from all over the world. I will definitely look at Seabourn again for my next cruise.

After 70+ cruises, tried Seabourn and, for the most part, were pleasantly impressed. Clean, pretty, mostly in good repair, spacious guest room, great bathroom. Attentive caring staff, great Shore Excursions and incredible entertainment -- best ever for a small ship. Creative food and special diets were usually well handled. After 30 days, did not want to leave. Onboard Management is accessible and visible at all times. Staff made us feel very valued and comfortably at home especially JP (maitre d') and Ana (Hostess). Seabourn's expansion apparently created issues with either not enough staff or not well enough trained staff. Too many small items were done wrong or not at all. There was just no attention to detail, which is extremely important in this level of cruising. It improved on our second leg after we discussed issues with them. Overall, we loved our Seabourn experience and will be back. Virtuoso hosts were great as was tour but lunch, again, was way too long.

The time aboard the ship was very good. I like their smaller ships better. The Captain was very sociable and did a good job of advising us about bad weather and avoiding it. I thought their shore excursions were not very good in general. The one the last day was a disaster. Our flight did not leave Santiago until 10:45-11:00. Our excursion ended two hours before the United gates were even open. Luggage was stacked everywhere. It was a long day and night as United seemed to be particularly disorganized even though we were flying business-first. Also the Altair Palace which we bought thru Seabourn was very tired. Our friends in Buenos Aries said there several hotels that had nicer rooms. Service was good the room was uncomfortable. The moved us once but neither room was a premium room.

We chose this voyage because it included ports in Norway we hadn't visited before. Now I know why - the small ports were pretty uninteresting. On Sundays the small towns are locked down tight and we even had a public holiday which was the same effect. We were very disappointed with the Cruise Director. The meals were very good, however on some days the weather was very cold and inclement. No one wished to eat out on the open deck and the demand on the Colonnade was so great we were turned away at lunch. We were referred to the Observation Bar where there was tasteless soup and dry sandwiches. We enjoy Duplicate Bridge, but the Directors were not very friendly and there were only 3-1/2 tables attending.

Our captain was incredible, timing his route to avoid high winds and rain. Finding a safe port in a storm takes on new meaning for me now:-) The trip itself was far and above the service and amenities I expected ...we got to know the staff and performers - possible on a ship that is smaller than most. Kayaking Antarctica was a highlight. The list goes on. Unfortunately, my trip was colored by an incident handled so poorly by Chris, the Guest Services manager. We were gifted a penguin hat with Seabourn logo among other things. On the first day of Fjords, everyone was in the lounge with expedition team on deck watching for whales. At one point, I left my hat and jacket on a chair. A passenger stole the hat. I reported in when it happened and she denied it. Guest Services would not replace the hat. I told everyone. After four days, they left a hat in my room with no logo. How petty to have handled it this way.

The room and crew were excellent, friendly and attentive. The dining and spa were first rate. The excursions were 85% of what we expected and the sites were amazing for the most part. Entertainment was very good, with some acts being excellent. However, there were problems. Most excursions involved tenders as the ship did not dock at most excursion sites. This delayed the actual visit times, which was worsened by some long bus rides. The quality of complementary wines was very average and worse than on prior cruises, forcing wine purchases from an expensive wine list. Full internet cost over $200 per person unless guests agreed to not used video or audio downloads. Excursion guides for the most part had thick accents. Most importantly, changing the embarkation port from Venice to Ravenna caused considerable trouble and expense. There were insufficient water taxis when our transfer bus arrived in Venice. I am not sure whether we will choose Seabourn again.

There were great meals, but room service orders were either wrong or on the cold side. Also, shore excursions should focus on quality of the excursion, not the quantity of them. The process from beginning to end was seamless. The staff ratio is more than half of the guests and not only did you feel like a part of a happy family, nothing was ever a bother or too much to ask. The entertainment on board was first class. The food was wide rangeing and varied while 5 star quality.

Had a great time but unfortunately couldn't get a shore at Amalfi because of rough seas. Albania was a bit of a disappointment, but all other stops were really good. Cabin Fantastic as were the staff. Only criticism was that the slippers provided were difficult to use.

Seaborn made the celebration of my 80th birthday very special. It was of my wishes for my birthday and I was so happy to be there. My room was decorated very tastefully and it added to the special occasion.

Short cruise but always great to be back on Seabourn. I hope they maintain the quality and not become another Carnival brand, would certainly lose many loyal clients.

Disappointed in several aspects

This is an older ship, but is well maintained. The cabin was comfortable and the staff was very polite and accommodating. The food was excellent. That said, there were two port changes (one prior to the cruise and one during) resulting in too many "sea days" in a row on a small ship without a lot of activities and multiple days in a port that didn't have a lot to offer. The shows were OK but not in anyway comparable to the shows on our recent Celebrity cruise. On a personal note the guests on the cruise were mostly much older than we were...and were in our late 60's.

This ship is exemplary in every way. Service, facilities, food, cabin, staff. The only thing you need to watch for is the tours or excursions. They are priced in US dollars and are very expensive. We used 'Get your Guide' to organise our own tours (based on what the ship was offering) and paid a quarter of the price that Seabourn were charging per person.

The Quest is a beautiful ship, and the staff couldn't have been better. The service was excellent. The Quest is a small ship, so keep this in mind if you have any issues with sea sickness. Aside from that, it provides a wonderful cruising experience.
