First time with celebrity, very disappointed. Usually cruise with Holland American. Their speciality restaurant was really really a dispointment. From knowledge, to serves, to extra cost, to food, think that covers most of it. Our room service was great. Alway cleaned up and fresh at least two times a day if not more.

Overall I found the cruise to meet my expectations. This was the first time I had a suite, so some things were a little different. I thought that my luggage should have been delivered a little sooner than it was, didn't come until 8pm. I choose to eat meals in the suite and that seemed to be a hassle. The Michael's lounge is a nice idea. I can't give the overall rating for food a high mark. I have sailed on the Summit before. The shows and entertainment didn't appear to be as good as they were before. The stateroom TV channels were not the best, signal loss, and programming. I am going to sail on the Eclipse in March so I can see if I have been too harsh in my judgement of the Summit.

We sailed over the week of New Years - our itinerary was so special and memorable. Over the course of 7 nights, we sailed to Barbados, St. Lucia, Antigua, St. Maarten and St. Thomas. It was a beautiful ship, with excellent food and great service. We were not traveling with children, so it was a nice ship for adults. the shows were excellent but for people expecting kid glove treatment even at a royal suite level...forget it. we never met the captain or crew. there was no captain's dinner or special treatment. our room was lovely (2 rooms). The on shore concierge Katie never returned email requests, and the on board concierge never resolved a credit issue. Our travel agent had to resolve it. Then, the butler whom we gave a big tip to, failed to help us on the last day to pack up wine/champagne gifts from Celebrity, thereby losing all. If all you want to do is read a book, then this is the place to do it. No one helps you as a new cruiser. The high end restaurants are excellent but no sense of community once there. hard to meet and socialize. One must study the schedule every day to know where evens are. tours were not great in Bermuda and headed up by generally impoverished locals. Gym was adequate but not impressive. Spa had nice choices - not really canyon ranch level and expensive.

We found the menus ok, not great . Not a big variety. The individual shows were interesting and unusual. The celebrity shows were well rehursed but not very well done . We went on the ship for the "America's Cup" and that was handled very poorly. Excursions were sold out months ago, almost no coverage while sailing except a few lectures . Never having been on celebrity before ,I was surprised that days at sea didn't have any other lectures or activities . We have been spoiled ,at our age by our many trips on Holland America. ,smaller ships, fewer people, better food, better lectures and a much larger room and balcony . Celebrity Summit was a nice ship, updated with great decor and colors. Not a carnival ride or cartoon character in sight. We had heard that the pool music and announcements were loud and numerous, true. The personnel on board were just wonderful, could not do enough for us. singing waiter Donavan was a bright spot each morning. At the back of the food room they had just started an area where you could choose a steak, chops, chicken or fish from a market like display and they would grill it to your request while you waited. Just a great way to do food individually so don't tell anyone. We had a interesting choice of ports with Newport and Boston as well as 3 days in Bermuda, other ships there were shorter and only included Bermuda. Just wish we could have gone a few weeks sooner to view the America's Cup races off the stern. As it was, breakfast on the stern saw views of Oracle and Artemis boats lying in their yards waiting shipment home.

We did 7 nights and never got bored... 4 pools, one of which is an indoor spa pool with reclined "beds" built in that have jacuzzi bubbles from below to help relax you. A sauna and 4 jacuzzi's. They are also very big on sanitizing and cleanliness. The hi light of our trip had to be the amazing wait staff at the cosmopolitan restaurant, Douglas, Rewat, and San san. each evening they were our team! remember requests each evening, go the extra mile to ensure your happy and have everything you need! Thanks guys! I hope we have the pleasure of dining with you again. Oh yes and the food was great also, at every restaurant (there are 4 for dinner + the buffet, which has an amazing chef...really!) the buffet has a lot of starches, not so many veggies though, that I was a bit disappointed about.

Disappointing return

Reviewed on: 11 Mar 2018

We were looking forward to sailing on Summit again, so were very disappointed to find that the service and attention to detail seemed "dumbed down." Celebrity used to be about luxury and class. To us, Modern Luxury is not the LOUD music, frequent announcements, and non-stop reminders to buy the deluxe beverage package. Embarkation took over an hour. Extra costs were everywhere - Tuscan Grill had premium priced entrees on top of the $45pp cover charge. Bar service in the lounges was minimal. Aqua Class and Blu were good, but the Blu menu was more limited than our last cruise. Waiter kept calling us his "family" rather than learning our names. It was February, and they had Christmas music playing the first morning. Aqua Class no longer had free bottled water in the cabin after the first day. Captain's Club Elite level provided some nice touches, but not enough for us to return to the Summit or Celebrity.

Great first cruise with Celebrity and first time in Bermuda

By: David E.

Extremely pleased with this Celebrity cruise which balanced time on the ship with time in port perfectly. We had a Sky Suite and all the perks. Michaels’ Club was a welcome respite for us that we used frequently. Our butler, was fantastic and knew what we wanted before we could get the request out. Luminae is a great dining room that aspires to be a Michelin 1 star and comes close on occasion. The Chef’s Table ($279/couple) was probably the only better meal on the ship than what one could get in Luminae. The pools were small, sometimes murky in the afternoon, and it was a challenge to find lounge chairs, but we always managed to. The pool grill made excellent burgers and fries, and we tried the buffet for lunch once and it was quite excellent. Bermuda is just a classy place. Elbow Beach was just as beautiful as Horseshoe Bay, but more elegant and had a fine restaurant. Celebrity met or exceeded my expectations for quality, and service in all respects; we will cruise with them again.

We chose one of the Celebrity Suites and were very pleasantly surprised. A few days prior to embarkation we were contacted by our Shoreside Concierge, Jamie, who effortlessly and efficiently handled our specialty dining reservations and a few other special requests. Separate lines for embarkation made the process pleasant and effortless. The food in Luminae was excellent...the service was excellent (most of the staff remembered us by name after our first meal)...our butler and cabin attendant were personable and didn't miss a single detail. Our only "issues" were some of the bartenders at the pool bars (slow with no personality)...and our experience at QSine. After the superb service at Luminae and Tuscan Grill, QSine was far below our expectations. Overall - EXCELLENT!

Overall this was a good trip, we had several port of calls that were new to us. The last time we sailed (2015) on the Summit, Captain Kate was in charge. This cruise did not have the "Wow" factor as the one in 2015 did have. Don't get me wrong, it was a good cruise on a good ship. My personal feeling was that there is financial pressure on the crew and seemed that there were less people taking care to make sure all needs were met in a timely manner. There also was pressure to buy "Select Dining" and other items like cooking classes and wine that went overboard. I would rather pay additional upfront and have these included in the package. We also experienced a smell of sewage on the 6th deck in the forward hallway every time we walked through the hall. Again do not mistake, we had a good time and cruise and look forward to future cruises.

We took a cruise on the same boat last year and it was 100% different. They took out the library and moved all the books to a lounge ( which really wouldn’t be bad but now all the books are picked over and only spanish books are left) to make more cabins. The “over haul” was adding a new deck with a shower and larger whirlpool for top level suite guests only, and they down graded the 4 outdoor hot tubs to just whirlpools(small pool with bubbles). Took away some of the deck games, the first night they were already serving warm beer, and the food was pretty bad most of the time. There were very few plates that I really liked. THE BUFFET the wait staff, I ate there 2x a day for 7 days, so 14 times... 5 times i was asked if I would like a drink. 9 times they repeatedly walk by our table. OMG and the food there was the worst! 2 out of 10! The minute steak at lunch was the only really good thing. Please stop putting breakfast sausages on afternoon pizzas.

Pleasant Voyage

Reviewed on: 14 Jul 2019

The Celebrity Summit is an older ship which has been "revolutionized" and my wife and I found it to be upgraded compared to one previous voyage on this ship 10 years ago. We only cruise on Celebrity and enjoy the the perks of the brand. Our trip this time was an "Independence Day Cruise" June-July to New England States /Canada. We enjoyed the trip and the refurbished cabins which have been upgraded but felt that the ship was still showing her age. The Persian Garden in the spa was virtually the same and was small and much less well appointed as the newer Solstice Class ships. Also the configuration of the Oceanview Cafe casual buffet dining room was not well laid out for the crunch of people dining there. Food stations did not follow a logical sequence for completing a meal and the food was just average compared to what we expect from Celebrity. The specialty restaurants were excellent as was the Blu Restaurant for Aqua Class cruisers. In future, we'll be sailing newer ships.

Celebrity Summit had to be one of the best of the fleet! The attendants just couldn't do enough for us. Our room person, Ida, was superb. I so appreciated him and his effort to make our cruise a great one. I so appreciated the cleanliness and the clean up of our room twice a day. Who could ask for more. Our stops were well planned and the shore offerings were soooooo very good. Our captain was especially good. An intelligent man who tried (and suceeded) to make his passengers happy and informed. I especially liked his talk about the sailing of the ship and I also enjoyed the evening he spent with a group of us on one of the outings.

Great Ship, with a few notes

By: Photobug

We had a great time. The nightly shows were fantastic, the best we've ever seen on a cruise ship. Our only complaints were: 1) They got rid of the library. Instead, there were a few books on a shelf in one of the lounges. We didn't bring books because in the past, there was a huge library of books to choose from; 2) The shops weren't stocked with clothing appropriate for the destination. We were in Canada & New England in Fall. The weather was much colder than I expected (and packed for). I hoped to buy a sweater in one of the shops, but they only carried clothes for warm weather. The only thing remotely warm was a Celebrity branded sweatshirt for over $100. 3) I didn't love the changes to the Persian Garden Spa; everything was much brighter and lighter than in the past. I liked the dim lighting and colored lights. 4) Finally, they changed the showers in Aqua class. I was looking forward to the heavenly "wall" of spray; instead there was just a regular, handheld shower.

The thing that Celebrity is known for is their food quality, and they didn’t disappoint. The abundance and quality on our cruise was outstanding. We enjoyed ourselves way too much! Celebrity is an amazing cruise line who values their guests. This is evident in every “good morning”, every “can I help you”, and every smile from the officers and crew. We enjoyed our very first cruise on Celebrity Summit. We enjoyed the facilities, food, service and theatre (especially All McCartney). I felt they handled the Coronavirus issue very well with hand sanitizers and policy. One disappointment that we had was the dining room policy. It should be made clear that the dress code doesn’t apply on the first and last days, but applies to all other EVENING meals only. It should also be made clear that you can have breakfast any day as well on deck 4 in the dining room as well as the buffet option. We felt totally in the dark as far as what and when things were happening. We had no idea when shows were on. If we had a potential “daily event” schedule that could be reviewed in advance once you have booked, it would have made us much more comfortable planning our trip. Example, why would you book an excursion if there was an afternoon show that you would like to see? The app should have had all of the events to pick from in the calendar!
