Another great experience

My 5th cruise, 3rd on the Star Flyer. Everything was as expected or better. My fellow travelers were interesting and I made several new friends. A highlight was having Mrs. Kraft on board for the whole week and Mr Kraft inboard for the yacht race in St Tropez. I look forward to sailing with them again.

I really enjoyed all aspects of being on a clipper ship from the hoisting and dropping of sails, embarkation rituals, being out on the net in front of the ship and observing the captain and crew in action. I also enjoyed the feeling of being close to the sea throughout the trip. The size of the group was perfect (150 people) because it provided both an intimacy and independence that was well balanced. The group was international but likeminded in many ways. The food was pretty good and certainly plentiful and the wine selection very strong. The dining area, the indoor and outdoor bars and libraries were all lovely. The atmosphere overall was sophisticated but casual. The lectures provided the captain were lively and fun. Also, I liked all the destinations but one. The excursions were all good. Perhaps there could have been more sports activities which were very few.

Our group of 12 wasn’t sure what sailing on a tall ship would be like. To our surprise and delight, it was a highlight of our 10 days on the boat. The accommodations were outstanding, the sfaff was very friendly and the food superb. The boat is large enough to provide smooth sailing and small enough to go from end to the other in a minute. The Captain went out of his way to explain the ship and share the secrets of the sea.

Trip to Dalmatian coast and Greece

The trip was great. The cabins were well appointed but do not have a fridge. The trip will appeal to those who love sailing but falls short on excursions for those who are into history. There is a big emphasis on hiking and bicycle tours, beach time. The places we stopped were excellent with a reasonable amount of time spent in each port. We felt the food could have been more reflective of the areas we were visiting. Lunch and breakfast buffets were very good, dinner not as much.

Loved it. Fellow travelers were great, staff was prompt, personal and professional, ship was easy to get around, food was good with a great variety, sitting on the deck watching the ship come in to port and leave port with the music. Loved the pace of the overall trip. Very much enjoyed the nightly quiz, entertainment and music. I am looking forward to going on another star clipper adventure.

Ship comfort

We’ve been on the ship, the Star Flyer, before, several times. It’s showing it’s age. Our shower stall had rust and mold in it - not acceptable on a pricey cruise. The furniture in the lounge areas is so hard and uncomfortable, hardly anyone sat there. Even a few throw pillows to pad your back would be helpful. The staff was wonderful, very attentive and friendly. The food was good. The ship nurse was very helpful when I got really seasick because of high winds and big waves.

Overall it was excellent. I loved the boat and she handled high seas well. My only disappointment was that we were unable to get a straight answer from Star Clippers regarding how much time was actually spent under sail. See attached or separate email for more detail. Captain was excellent and very approachable to answer any questions I had.

Unfortunately mother nature did not cooperate the first few days due to high winds, cancelled beach trips and excursions, but the crew and passengers made the best of it. The things I like most about this trip were: - the passengers (US, UK, Germany, France, Sweden and Switzerland). In my opinion the passengers are the number one reason to take a trip with Star Clipper. - the crew (absolutely love the crew). I was very pleased that several of the crew members remembered me from the trip I took to Greece in August 2019. They were always personable, helpful, kind and take passenger safety very seriously. - the first few islands lacked much to see, but I loved Guadeloupe and Iles des Saintes. - On boarding and off boarding went very smoothly. Food was great, and well presented. Loved the beach picnic. - I am very much looking forward to my next Royal Clipper trip in April 2021 from Lisbon to Rome.

We enjoyed our cruise. It was a different experience being on a clipper ship. Unfortunately, because of a long flight delay, we came close to missing our departure ( gangway was up and crew were untying the ship). Our travel agent contacted the port agent who did not inform the ship of our new arrival time, which was late, but still before the designated departure.

Sailing in a tall ship is a once in a lifetime experience. This sailing had the best cuisine I’ve ever experience on a cruise. Amazing.
