Celebrity Edge - Maiden Voyage

By: dcook3@sympatico.ca

Reviewed on: 30 Dec 2018

Celebrity Edge is a beautiful and stunning ship!! Service (with a couple of minor exceptions) was excellent as it usually is with this cruise line. Stateroom attendant Angelo was fabulous and went above and beyond!!! Food was the best we have had on Celebrity, and that is saying a lot since we have always had very good food on their ships. The infinity balcony was neat to try and great in poor weather, but if you prefer a traditional balcony this may not be the option to choose unless you are open to trying something different. Activities on this ship were underwhelming. Very disappointing for a maiden voyage. As always on Celebrity they have very talented performers for the main stage theatre but unfortunately the shows are not that good. We really miss the Sky Lounge!!!!!!! The Club did not cut it as an alternative to this venue on the Solstice Class. Realize they are going for somethindifferent on the Edge class, but don't lose a couple of solid "tried and true" venues.

This ship truly is revolutionary and unlike anything else at sea! We were on the maiden voyage and had just a fantastic time! She is an absolute beautiful ship. The decor, materials used, etc...well, just an interior designers dream. She feels so luxurious , truly more beautiful than most of the ultra luxury cruise ships we have sailed on. The food was also fantastic. We were in a suite and so we were able to eat in the dedicated restaurant just for suite customers called Luminae and the service and food were top notch. We also ate in all the specialty restaurants with the exception of Raw on 5 since husband is allergic to seafood. All the restaurants were excellent, although I think the additional price might be a tad too high for a couple of them. Entertainment was really good as well, we hitmost of the shows...only one of them wasnt as interesting for us...but the theatre is very nice, didnt seem to be a bad seat in the house. We highly recommend the Edge!

Overall it was very good. There were some small issues that I would like to see improved, but I like the different cuisines in the various restaurants. I did not care for the sound system in the Martini Bar area in the middle of the ship and how you need to walk through bar area dance floor to get from side to side. I would rate it an 8 out of 10. It was only it’s fourth voyage, so I know it will get better.

We sailed the edge in her 4th inaugural week. The ship is tecnogiclly advanced but lacked the wow factor in terms of ambiance. Our room attendant was nice but had to ask for ice repeatedly & were shorted bath towels as well. Food was ok, Entertainment was good but reserving empty balcony seats for suite owners that did not show was irritating. Chase loungers around pool decks were plentiful, located in both sun & shade areas, & never a problem. Open air movies were great.

The Edge is stunning and crew was exceptional as all Celebity cruises so far but the bed in our sky suite was harder than granite which put a damper on the trip. All other ships have had extremely comfortable beds. The bars are way too small for the crowds. It was impossible to get a seat at the martini bar and tough to get served at the tables. Food at Lumenae was marginal at best. Some things definitely need tweaking. I’d love to see a few more laid back food venues like really delicious tacos or subs. I’d definitely go again but for the expense I expected near perfection (like a comfortable place to sleep)

The Edge was brand new and beautiful. The State Room on the Aqua class was spacious & the bathroom was the largest for any cruise I've been on. The only downsize to The State Room was the balcony & the shades. While the extra enclosed balcony was nice for the room it, removed the actual balcony feel. I did not care for the shades. It was either all or nothing there was no way to just open the drapes a little and see the scenery because the shade opened from the bottom up. We dined at Blu restaurant each night & although the food was good it was pretty similar every night. The staff was attentive as usual & we received great service. They even made my husband's birthday special. My husband was disappointed with the casino. Most of the tables where of a high limit. Even the low limit tables were higher than most. At the back of the ship on 14, the seating was small & the shade was very limited. Most of the tables were in the sun. Sundeck on 15 had no shade also. Bad place to show movies.

Celebrity Edge Mediterranean Cruise

By: Jennifer

Reviewed on: 15 Jul 2019

We took our first Celebrity Cruise on the brand new ship, the Edge. We traveled with our two kids, 22 and 18, and all had a ball! We started in Rome, moved down to the Amalfi Coast, up to Florence (we visited Lucca), and then across to Monaco, Cannes, Palma de Mallorca, and then ended in Barcelona. Staying in the suite class was an excellent choice. It made the medium sized cruise feel more like a club level, with your own butler, pool area, retreat for cocktails and appetizers, and your own restaurant for suite level only, where you could just walk in at any time. We really preferred that because each day is different and you don’t know what time you want to eat. The service and the food were both awesome and the suite itself was lovely and very efficient. I highly recommend taking a Celebrity Cruise on the Edge!

11-day Amalfi Coast and Greece

By: Glenn

Reviewed on: 07 Nov 2019

We have travelled on Carnival, Norwegian, and Royal Caribbean ships. The Celebrity Edge was, by far, the most superior in terms of elegance, service, and food. The 11-day Amalfi Coast and Greece itinerary with only two at sea days was excellent and enjoyable. The specialty restaurants on Edge are truly "specialty" experiences and the food and service were outstanding. However, the food in the general dining areas was equally good. Although there are around 3,000 passengers on this ship, the only time you feel clutter is waiting for and taking elevator rides. Otherwise, the ship disseminates the passengers adequately so that you never feel you have to rush in order to get a seat at a bar, by the pool, in a theater, etc. The staff are well-trained and polite. We highly recommend this ship.

Love Solstice class ships, hated the Edge

By: Pushing70

Reviewed on: 06 Dec 2019

I was so incredibly disappointed in the Edge that I don’t know where to start. The biggest disappointment and rip-off is the slick marketing campaign for the “Infinite Balconey.” It’s NOT a balconey, it’s a three foot extension to an ocean view cabin. There’s a window that goes up and down as long as the captain determines conditions are acceptable. We had a lot of time with the window locked shut. Aqua class restaurant Blu was equally disappointing; it’s stuck on deck five adjacent to the life boats giving you zero view. The Martini Bar on Solstice class ships has been stuck in a giant hole know as the Grand Plaza...zero atmosphere, lots of noise. No ice bar and no views...it’s as if a friend remodeled their basement and invited everyone they know for drinks. No view from the bow...that area is closed off for suite passengers only. All-in-all the personality and warmth of an office cubicle.

Food and entertainment was very good. Suggestions for newer ships: add more charging stations both in the cabins and throughout the ship. (Both sides of the bed in the cabin would be very helpful as well as in The Club and bar venues). Also, karaoke could be improved by having a screen larger than a small tablet for participants. Great live bands on the ship and very talented entertainers. Would definitely like to sail on Edge again.

The Edge is an amazing ship. From the moment we entered to the moment we sadly disembarked, we were constantly impressed. The Edge is now our #1 choice (with it's sister ship Apex being choice #2). The ship is beautiful. The artwork and attention to detail is amazing. We were in a concierge stateroom and found it spacious, well planned and airy. We LOVED the new concept "balcony" (really a separate part of the stateroom with a floor to ceiling window that has a pane that opens downward). You can open the window and lean out and smell the breezes. The Edge has 4 separate (and different) main dining rooms. Fabulous idea. The Edge constantly takes and old idea and makes it new. I can't think of anything that needed improvement (other than the Steak House). AND ..., to top it all off, "Captain Kate" was our captain. Like the ship, she sets a new standard in cruising. Amazing ship. Jaw dropping moments. Fantastic crew. The Edge has it all. We will be back.

The cruise was just ok . The ship was beautiful the staff unbelievably great. The shows were terrific however the food was way below even a good standard. The restaurants all of them were horrible. Always cold - over cooked - Even the desserts at the coffee bars or at the buffet tasted as if they had been frozen and old. The cheese station offered at the buffet was ridiculous- cutting the smallest portion of Brie and offerings were so small. One at a time. The cheese selection was so cheap. No seating available on deck 3 and 4 while music was offered. I would never recommend celebrity.

The staff was very friendly and helpful. The ship is spacious and beautiful. The food was good but not great. We chose not to pay to go to one of the high-end restaurants. The entertain was great. It was difficult to find a chaise lounge at the pool or a seat in the theater for a group of four. We quickly learned to arrive very early to ensure we had seats.

Great Cruise - first time on Celebrity Edge

We enjoyed the new ship. The infinity balconies were new and both plus and minus. On the plus size, it really expanded the space in the cabinet especially if you had guests in the room. On the minus side, there was a big overhang so no sun on the balcony and the balcony seemed more closed in than on other ships. Also you could keep the balcony open and have the air conditioning on at the same time. There was lots of storage space and other little conveniences. The couch side table was hollow and the lid was table on one side and cushioned on the other side. There a pull out section of the desk that could give you extra table space when out or more moving around space when slid in.

The staff and ship were exceptional. Service and food was top notch and as always we enjoyed our selves. The team in Blue was one of the best we have seen and Fine Cuts is a definite must do.
