Great itinerary

By: Ritzy

Reviewed on: 18 Feb 2016

We found all the Silversea staff to be both friendly and professional. We appreciated the care that was given to make sure we were in the right place at the right time for luggage and transfers. Checking into the hotels was very smooth. The food aboard ship was only average but the servers tried their best to deliver it promptly and with a smile. We did not go hungry. Our stateroom was clean and the butler service was very good. The itinerary for the cruise was wonderful. We definitely liked the lectures and briefings to keep us informed of the next days activity. We would definitely sail with Silversea again with a different destination.

It could not have been better. The organization of the expeditions, the food, the music, the incredible hospitality of the staff was 5 star! The highlight for our family of 8 was the snorkeling and the meals. Cruising with a group this size makes travel so driving , no unpacking ..takes a lot of stress out of the vacation.

We started with a four-day excursion to Machu Picchu. The itinerary we received was different from what actually happened. Going to Machu Picchu, the flight from Lima landed in Cusco and we went directly to the train, which was supposed to be the Hiram Bingham. It was the other train instead. The second day in Machu Picchu was supposed to end around noon-time for the train trip back to Cusco. Instead, we were on the Hiram Bingham at 6 p.m getting us to the hotel in Cusco at 1000 p.m. We had to meet at 5:30 a.m. the next morning for the flight back to Lima which meant zero time to see anything of Cusco. This was a big disappointment. Otherwise, the transfers and guides were superb. The only comment about the Silver Galapagos was the food. The fish was excellent, but meats frequently were low quality and not cooked to the desired temperature. However, everything else associated with a small ship (100 passengers) and this trip was terrific.

The Galapagos is a special place on earth. We had a wonderful time with Silverseas. The state room was a good size and the service was excellent. There are not many lounge chairs to sit on outside so it would be nice to get a balcony room. Room service was great. They will do their best to bring you what you want even if it is not on the menu. The seating areas in the Expedition room could use some attention. Some of the seats are worn and need to be replaced. We would definitely travel with them again.

Great time in the Galapagos

By: HCTech

Reviewed on: 28 Feb 2018

The Silversea Galapagos is a great way to see these fantastic islands. At 100 guest size, it is just large enough to have many of the comforts of a cruise ship, but small enough to get around to the islands. The most notable were the tours and tour guides. The tours were run with Swiss watch precision and the guides were all great, with a special shout-out to Marcos. The snorkel gear provided was the best I've ever used. The food was also great, although because of the limited size of the ship, the venues and menus were understandably more limited than the usual Silversea offerings. Although the Silversea literature states that the Silver Galapagos was refurbished in 2017, I'm not sure what was refurbished because the ship seemed in need of some overall work. A broken water line resulted in the need to relocate us for a night in a cabin 2 tiers below our booked one until they got it fixed and the room dried out.

This is our second Galapagos cruise in 10 years. Experience we had on Silversea was excellent.. The quality of their guides and overall delivery of services enhanced the natural wonders that the Galapagos islands have to offer. This is fun for all ages and interests, and the individual attention to each traveler is commendable. Just a sidenote: be prepared for a very active week every morning and afternoon are very busy with exposures to multi faceted events you will see and understand more about nature at its very best. Not to be missed!

Fabulous Crew on the Silver Galapagos

By: Chris S

Reviewed on: 09 Jun 2018

The Silver Galapagos was an active, quiet , beautiful, luxurious and personable cruise. This was my first time on a cruise liner and I was very impressed with the level of service, quality of guides and attention given by crew and staff to all on board. The dinning was creative and flavorful with daily local dishes added to the breakfast, lunch and dinner menus. Chef David's ceviche cooking class was superb. Our naturalist provided a local and extensive biological understanding of the environment, each with their own humor and style. Every activity was well orchastrated down to our zodiac drivers deftly maneuvering us to every hike, kayak, snorkel or landing. The flora and fauna is, of course, the highlight and it does not disappoint. A few more activities were added during our cruise which we enjoyed and the only improvement I would ask is to add even more 'power team" or longer excursion options to the daily itinerary or even a scuba option.

Galapagos In Style

When on the brand new Silver Muse last year, we saw a promotion about Silver Galapagos and decided that even though we are big time SCUBA divers, we really wanted to see land and if we were going to go, we should go in style. Great decision! It was a dress-down but very much elegant Silversea experience with everything included. From pickup at Quito airport to drop-off two weeks later in Guayaquil, everything was first class and extremely well handled. Hotels in the mainland cities were 5 star wonderful hotels in fascinating cities. We did a back-to-back for 2 weeks to see the Eastern and Western routes which are very different. Very few do this but, IMHO, it is the only way to go. We had Silver Suites which were roomy and elegant. Leader Xavier and his Expedition staff are charming and knowledgeable and they run "summer camp" in an engaging and fascinating way. Food was excellent and Hotel Director Lizardo and Maitre d' Melissa were exceptional. Highly recommended!

The experience with the Silver Galapagos was everything we had hoped for in our first trip to the Galapagos. The ship and our cabin was exceptionally comfortable and well furnished. The staff couldn't have been more helpful. When my husband came down with a cold and stayed in bed, our steward took care that he was getting meals brought to our room, and looked in several times to ensure he had everything he needed. The expedition leaders and speakers were extremely knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. The excursions were tailored to appeal to a broad range of physical abilities and expectations were set accordingly.

This is a expedition ship. Be aware that announcements occur in your cabin through out the day. Early morning 0600 to late in the day. You will get wet, on wet or dry landings . Water spray driven by the wind when tendering by zodiacs. Rough terrain for walking with falls possible. ( We had ten people in our group--one lady fell--then another fell scrapped knees. Then a man fell with more extensive injuries . All part of the experience! He was able to walk on his own back to the ship.

The trip was beyond our expectations in every way. The on board folks were excellent at their roles in providing a pampered atmosphere and with such a small ship it became a personal connection very quickly. The on shore excursions and zodiac trips were very professionally managed by bright, passionate naturalists and geologists complete with a sense of humor. The islands and wildlife were of course the highlight of the trip topped off by the opportunity to share with new friends met on board. I would absolutely recommend this expedition.

My husband and I were happy we decided to spend our honeymoon seeing the Galapagos Islands. The Silversea crew was attentive throughout the journey and we definitely felt like we were on holiday the entire week as every day was well scheduled and executed by the crew. Our naturalists were knowledgeable and excited to share everything they knew about the islands. We especially enjoyed the evening learning sessions and eating dinner with a few of them to hear about their lives, Ecuadorian culture and more about the Galapagos. We loved that the whole crew was Ecuadorian as it only enriched our experience on the boat and during our excursions. Thanks for a great time!

We have traveled on Silversea Cruise line many times and expected the same level of service as we have experienced in the past. This was not the case. The ship was not ready for service. The ship honored the passengers from the former owners who had scheduled short cruises. This made the schedule accommodate the off and on loading of 60 passengers and their baggage mid week. This changed the schedule for those of us who were there for the whole week.

My family of four has 400-450 total days sailed on Silversea.  We love them for their destinations (certainly not for their dress up requirements) and small ship size.  Despite our many fine experiences, it seems the bean counters have caught up.  Every year additional amenities get cut out.  Then two trips ago they recarpeted the ship during our voyage, and our last trip on the Silver Galapagos revealed an appalling lack of quality, both ship and staff.  So long as you don't set your hopes on a five star experience you will have a fine time.

We had been prepared for a level of service and cuisine that was supposedly characteristic for and 'expedition ship experience'. Silversea's Silver Galapagos disproved the notion that service and food quality is sometime compromised on these types of ships. The crew were outstanding, and the head chef, Emma was more personable than any we have had on other ships, as well as fully capable of preparing superb meals consistently.
