About Us

The story of the Hotel Sacher Wien began back in 1876 when Eduard Sacher, son of the creator of the Original Sacher-Torte, merged culture with hospitality. Hardly time passed and soon it was on everyone´s lips, world-wide known as a meeting place for big personalities in politics, arts, culture and society.

Guided by the loving hands of the Gürtler and Winkler family, the hotel preserves the unique and personal ambience with the old-world charm of the former Habsburg monarchy.

Throughout, the individual designs of our 152 rooms and suites, one can discover the luxurious ambience of the 19th century combined with contemporary state-of-the-art comfort. Located directly in the heart of Vienna, our rooms and suits offer a magnificent view of the Vienna State Opera, Hofburg and Albertina Museum - especially the rooms and suites on the top floor offer a stunning view over the rooftop’s of Vienna.

However, not only the design of the hotel itself throws you back in time, but also our restaurants and bars create an remarkable experience of Vienna’s haute cuisine as the “Sacher trilogy“ in its purest and original form. Hence, in the famous restaurant “Rote Bar“, live-piano music accompanies authentic Viennese cuisine with glance on the Opera, whilst the fine-dining restaurant “Grüne Bar“ combines locally sourced ingredients with international dishes in the most unique atmosphere. Enjoying Vienna the right way, our well-known hotel bar “Blaue Bar” offers a sophisticated pre- or post-Opera drink hot-spot.

To take some time off, our exclusive Sacher Boutique Spa features a variety of spa facilities for profound relaxation. Treatments can be arranged in private spa suites with product labels of La Prairie and Ligne St. Barth. Moreover, our Sacher Boutique Spa invites to discover the secrets of our exclusive no-calories body line "Time to Chocolate".

Hotel guests can dive into the Viennese coffeehouse culture with a piece of the Original Sacher-Torte at the „Café Sacher” or the "Sacher Eck", where the hotel recipe of this culinary experience is closely guarded since 1832.

Sacher in one sentence- the most authentic sense of place including the Original Sacher-Torte as the icing on the cake.

Best of the Best

As the only privately owned and family-run luxury hotel in the city, the iconic Hotel Sacher Wien is a Viennese landmark, set opposite the Vienna State Opera. The unique balance of maintained traditions and contemporary elements provides an authentic sense of place. The refurbished rooms all feature individually collected antiques and original oil paintings, making it one of Austria’s landmarks and largest private art collections. Home of the Original Sacher-Torte, the famous Café Sacher is where guests can experience this culinary history or opt for the no-calories version at the Sacher Boutique Spa when it is “Time to Chocolate.”

Stunning Suite, Friendly Helpful Staff

By: EmHouston

Reviewed on: 28 Mar 2015

The staff at the Hotel Sacher Wien was impressive from the moment of check-in. Very friendly, professional and helpful. From the front desk to the Concierge, we were very well taken care of. We were upgraded (thank you CSB and Virtuosa) upon check-in to an amazing deluxe suite. It was stunning and in perfect condition. Very large bath with heated towel rack, separate bath and shower area, all beautifully appointed and maintained. The hotel arranged their car to take us to the airport at 4 am. They were even friendly at 4 am! When I got to the airport I realized I forgot to turn in my keys. I called the hotel and they told me not to worry, to just mail them back when I got back to the states. Very nice considering they were beautiful embossed leather keys to a named suite. I would highly recommend this hotel!

The Hotel Sacher Wien is a beautiful hotel with an expert staff who deliver the highest levels of service. Great location within walking distance of all of the most famous landmarks in Vienna. The rooms were nice and comfortable: the breakfast was delicious, providing anything that one would want for breakfast! Best part of the hotel experience for us was the consistent high level of service from the front door to the check-in desk to the bars and restaurants. All of that made our Vienna experience over the top!

The Sacher Wien is just one of those places you must experience at least once, and hopefully, many times. Everything they do is just about perfect. When we left and were boarding our flight, I realized that I left my watch in our room. I called them, they tracked it down, communicated via text while I was in flight, and then DHL'd my watch to me and insisted on paying for the shipment. Wow, who does that? A really great hotel does, that's who.

Chocolate decadence!

By: Maria S

Reviewed on: 20 Jun 2018

I have a weakness for chocolate. There are no words to describe the Hotel Sacher, home of the Sacher Torte. From the people working there to the beautiful rooms and delicious food, the experience was unbelievable. We found two mini Sacher Tortes in our room every day and the shampoo, conditioner, and soap provided by the hotel were all chocolate based, and when we left and complimented them on the deliciousness of their Sacher Tortes, they gave us four to take with us. You haven't lived until you have eaten a chocolate Sacher Torte before taking a shower only to come out smelling like chocolate! It was heaven.
