About Us

Raffles Singapore is currently closed for restoration with a planned reopening at the end of 2018.

The original Singapore Sling experience is now served at a pop-up Long Bar located at 3 Seah Street, next to the Raffles Gift Shop which remains open throughout our restoration. To learn more about the restoration, please click here. This restoration is designed to ensure that we retain what is so special about Raffles – the ambience, the service, the charm and the heritage of the hotel. It is also intended to provide the facilities, spaces and experiences that the well-travelled expect. The newly restored Raffles will breathe new life into our beautiful building. With a planned reopening in the second half of 2018, you can expect to experience Raffles’ charming ambiance and legendary service and enjoy newly opened bars, restaurants, courtyards, and social areas; spaces designed to make Raffles the place to meet, spend time, shop and celebrate.

The year was 1887 when the doors to the Raffles Hotel Singapore first opened. Since then, this luxury five star hotel in Singapore has become an icon that epitomises the romance of the Far East – an intoxicating blend of luxury, history and colonial design.Situated in the heart of the business and civic district, Raffles Singapore is a veritable oasis in the city. Its classic colonial architecture has been perfectly preserved and provides a stark but lively contrast against its modern-skyscraper neighbours.

Through the decades, liveried Sikh doormen have welcomed some of the most famous personalities, from writers to celebrities, politicians and members of royalty, such as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

No visit to Singapore is complete without a stay at this iconic all-suite luxury Singapore hotel. Each suite features period furnishings, lofty 14-foot ceilings and modern conveniences expected of a 21st-century hotel. Raffles butlers, legendary for their charming and graceful service are available to fulfil requests both ordinary and extraordinary.

Best of the Best

World travelers have been singing Singapore’s praises since the all-suite Raffles Singapore first opened more than 130 years ago. This colonial-era landmark has become synonymous with unsurpassed service and the grace of bygone days. Period furnishings, ceiling fans and Oriental rugs atop teakwood floors adorn the warm, inviting guestrooms; 12 themed “Personality Suites” are decorated with memorabilia of the celebrities who’ve stayed there. Every gastronomic desire is fulfilled at more than ten restaurants and bars, including Long Bar, the birthplace of the Singapore Sling, and the Lobby Lounge for English Afternoon Tea.

Hotel Tip

Raffles Singapore is undergoing restoration to breathe new life into the building, while retaining its charm, heritage and service for the enhanced comfort of all guests. The hotel re-opens end 2018.

Grand Hotel Suite (2 bedroom)

UNDERGOING RENOVATION UNTIL MID-2018

Virtuoso room category upgrade is not applicable to Grand Hotel Suite.

The Grand Hotel Suites are distinguished by their location in the main building of the hotel, their spaciousness and elegant design and the quality of the antiques and artwork displayed. The five Grand Hotel Suites take their inspiration from the romance of travel in a bygone age. The five suites are:

Cathay Suite

Cathay is the name for China introduced to Europe by the most legendary of all travellers - Marco Polo. It is derived from Khitan or Khitai, which designates several Mongolian tribes who conquered the northern part of China and is Persian in origin. The Cathay Suite has some antique Chinese furniture and appropriate artwork to complement the theme.

Golden Chersonese Suite

Golden Chersonese is the name given to the Malay Peninsula in Roman times. It first appeared on a map by Ptolemy, the Greek mathematician, around 200 A.D. and continued to appear on maps up to the 16th century. The name was resurrected by the 19th century traveller and writer, Isabella Bird, with her book ‘The Golden Chersonese: Travels in Malaya in 1879'. Between the two world wars, the fast train between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur was christened The Golden Chersonese.

Hotel De L’Europe Suite

The Hotel De L’Euorpe was Raffles Singapore’s main competitor until it closed in 1933. Older than Raffles for several decades, it stood at the corner of Seah Street facing the Esplanade. The original hotel building was redeveloped in 1907 into an architecturally grand structure that rivalled Raffles Singapore. It was demolished in the 1930s when the present Supreme Court was constructed.

Straits Settlement Suite

The Straits Settlement - Singapore, Penang and Malacca - were administered from Singapore. The term was in use during the years Raffles Hotel was in its heyday. The name ‘Strait Settlements’ conjures up images of steamy jungles, rubber planters, rich tin mines and the writings of Joseph Conrad and Somerset Maugham.

Temasek Suite

Temasek is the ancient name for Singapore. In the Temasek Suite, Raffles Singapore pays tribute to the island’s distant and legendary past before the days of the Malacca Sultanate and the early European traders.

Staying at Raffles was a wonderful experience. The hotel has so much charm and history. The grounds are very tropical and beautiful. Everything is kept up so perfectly. Being there is like stepping back to a quieter, more peaceful time. I can't imagine being in Singapore and not staying at Raffles.
