About Us

The Stafford London is situated in the heart of St. James‘s/Piccadilly area; with direct access to Green Park, and a stone's throw away from Buckingham Palace, St. James's Park, London's theatre district and favourite shopping destinations including Fortnum and Mason, Bond Street and Jermyn Street.

The stylish rooms and suites are guaranteed to help you relax. The Main House is a blend of Victorian grandeur and modern comfort, while the Mews Suites and Penthouse offer classic, contemporary elegance and the comfort and discretion of your own private residence. The newly renovated, historic Carriage House Rooms and Suites offer an understated opulence that befits the building’s status as a Grade II listed property, while the spacious new The Gatehouse Suite is available to book as a one-bedroom Junior Suite, a two-level suite or the full three storey townhouse.

The Game Bird restaurant is a contemporary tale about relaxed, informal dining at any time of the day. A place to eat, drink and socialise, the focus is on modern British comfort cooking executed with style and panache, all wrapped in a seductive ambience that oozes cool sophistication. The philosophy at The Game Bird is simple – dedicated to following the seasons and supporting local artisans including award-winning, family owned farms , Executive Chef, James Durrant has created a ‘theatre of the senses’ menu based on uncomplicated excellence, where local, seasonal produce sits alongside time-honoured British Classics.

The American Bar at The Stafford London is an institution in its own right where every available wall and surface is crammed with an intriguing collection of artefacts, knick-knacks and signed celebrity photographs donated by patrons and guests over the years. Overseen by head barman Benoit Provost, The American Bar is open daily from 8am until 11pm. Enjoy a light breakfast, an alfresco lunch in the private cobbled courtyard, or relax with a Signature cocktail while soaking up the history of this famous bar.

A compelling history lies beneath The Stafford London in its 380-year-old Wine Cellars. Built in the 17th Century by Lord Francis Godolphin, and used as an air-raid shelter in World War II, these fascinating cellars house up to 8,000 bottles of the finest wines. Today, Master Sommelier, Gino Nardella, hosts wine tastings and wine-pairing dinners throughout the year. With over 35 years of experience at The Stafford alone, there isn’t a bottle he hasn’t tried which rests beneath the hotel.

Best of the Best

Tucked away in the heart of St. James's, and minutes from London’s iconic landmarks, The Stafford London is the epitome of traditional British luxury, steeped in history and character. Choose from three buildings, each with its own identity: Main House, The Stafford Mews and the renovated Carriage House, including a luxurious two-bedroom, three-story suite, The Gatehouse. The Game Bird offers modern British comfort cooking executed with style and panache, all wrapped in a seductive ambience that oozes sophistication, whilst the renowned American Bar is decorated with a collection of artifacts donated by patrons and guests.

Wonderful service

The Stafford is a warm, comfortable, inviting hotel AND has a great location -- perfect for the traveler. Service was superb even to the point of making a special dessert for me after mentioning I liked a particular fruit during the breakfast buffet - great attention to detail! Will definitely recommend and use on my next trip to London.

The staff was amazing. Seriously the best service I've ever had. They were extremely attentive and helpful in every way. The lights in the room were a bit confusing and by the end of my stay I was completely annoyed with them. That's really the only negative thing I could possible say. I wish the fireplace in the room worked. At least projected a picture of a fire. Even with the construction going, this hotel was hands down my favorite place! I can't wait to go back and stay longer!!!

I'd say 4 stars not 5. Location is great, check in was not optimal, had to stand up as there were only 3 chairs, not 4 so two couples couldn't check in at the same time. The receptionist didn't even offer to get another chair as I was standing up and my girlfriend was sitting...awkward. Also service was average, not excellent from the restaurant, concierge, etc.

My third stay at the Stafford confirmed my expectation that I would feel welcome and st home, as always. The staff were all very professional, courteous, and helpful. The newly renovated restaurant is lovely and the food excellent. The American bar is fun as ever but the smokers chased me out at dinnertime. Americans are unused to smoking being allowed in restaurants and bars. The hotel's location on a quiet street is a big plus and I will return again.

As we expected from past visits, the Stafford is a wonderful home away from home in London. St James is central to museums, theater, and two parks: St James and Green. The one caveat: too much outdoor smoking from The American Bar causes some guest rooms and generally all the common areas to smell of cigarettes for most of day and into the night. I wish they would address this issue.

I have stayed at the hotel for many years over several owners. In addition, my office was two blocks away when I lived in London in the 80's and I would often meet business associates at the American Bar.

We stayed at the Stafford during our entire trip to London. The location was excellent - an easy walk to the Tube, the theater and pubs. The staff took care of our every need, from theater tickets, pub recommendations and Tube directions. Our room was spotless and well-appointed, the food and service at each breakfast and dinner at the Game Bird room were outstanding, and we enjoyed the ambiance of the American Club for unwinding at the end of the day. The staff was alert to our needs, without being obtrusive - an art they have down pat. We would stay there on our next trip to London.
