As part of this, Belmond will be including extra protocols for staff personal hygiene, removing unnecessary touch points, cleaning and disinfection and social distancing for pre-opening and after Belmond has opened. Preopening Providing a safe environment for our guests and employees is our top priority. Belmond has extremely robust hygiene and cleanliness procedures in place. We will be implementing a series of new cleaning protocols targeted to protect against Covid-19 and ensure our evenhigher standards are achieved and upheld. As part of these enhanced measures, Belmond will be including extra protocols for staff personal hygiene, removing unnecessary touch points, cleaning and disinfection and social distancing for pre-opening and after Belmond has opened. Belmond has established procedures to ensure the regular deep cleaning of its hotels and other properties, for example following a period of seasonal closure. We will be conducting a full deep clean of all areas at every hotel, train and river cruise prior to re-opening, following these well-established best practices. To provide an extra layer of protection, however, specific measures to protect against Covid-19 will be carried out. This will include the removal and deep cleaning of all curtains, fabrics, quilts, pillows and cushions. All floors and hard surfaces will be cleaned and disinfected with a cleaning product 2 Belmond_Protects_Covid19Protocol_FAQ | Mon 18 May, 2020 approved to tackle Covid-19. Very disappointed

    By: Kimberly4423

    Reviewed on: 16 Jul 2014

We were very disappointed with our stay at Charleston Place, mostly because of the problems we had at check-in.  The rooms we had requested - a junior suite with a connecting double - "were not available".  We ended up with two regular rooms down the hall from each other.  They also tried to charge us for premium rooms (the ones that have been remodeled), which ours were not, which necessitated another long conversation at the front desk.  Also, the gifts from our travel agent were not delivered until late the night before we left - pretty much a waste as we did not have time to enjoy them.  All in all, not the service we expected from this hotel.  We won't return.

    Lovely hotel, bill questionable.

Our stay at the Belmond Charleston Place Hotel last week was lovely. The hotel accommodations were superb, but I was very surprised and disappointed with our bill upon checkout. There were three of us. I had requested a single room for me and a double room for my daughter and granddaughter. We were there only three nights, and our bill was over $4,000. Virtuoso upgraded us to suites, gave us $100. per room credit and $32.00 per room daily for breakfast. All of this was lovely and greatly appreciated and enjoyed. We had dinner at the hotel one night, breakfasts each day, house drinks one night in the cocktail lounge, and very little room service requests. Even with the lovely Virtuoso supplements, our bill exceeded $4,000. I thought that this amount was high.

The Belmond is trying to give a ritz or st. Regis type experience in Charleston. It has a nice location with good food and high end shopping in the hotel. The only problem is that the staff is not trained like a Ritz staff. As good as it looks the care from the staff ruined it.

I would recommend the Belmond Charleston. It's not a perfect 5-star and it's pricey - but it's the #1 pick in downtown Charleston all things considered. (1) LOCATION: A+. Perfect location on Meeting Street - walkable to everything. (2) ROOMS: A+. Gorgeous updated French decor, perfect linens, a modern marble bathroom, etc. (2) SERVICE: Sometimes an A (really nice staff for the most part, accommodated a super early check-in, etc.); other times a C+. Fell short vs. Four Seasons. (3) DINING: * PALMETTO CAFE. A+. Slightly spendy, but worth it. * CHARLESTON GRILL. B-. Nice elegant vibe, but over-priced and subpar food. (4) SPA. B-. Mediocre and over-priced. (5) CLUB LEVEL: A+. Because of Vivien Rethazy and Virtuoso, we lucked out with a Club Level upgrade. Free upgrade aside, the Club Level is worth the extra expense if you can swing it. It’s upscale and friendly with abundant offerings all day - you can get full off of what is served. The Belmond is great; best in Charleston.

    Beautiful Belmond

    By: Sean M

The Belmond is a beautiful hotel in the heart of Charleston. The location is ideal for exploring the city - both sites and shopping. The hotel staff was very accommodating too. I was unhappy with my suite initially and the front desk staff did everything possible to make me happy. They gave me room options allowing me to make the decision, and provided a drink and food voucher to the bar while I waited for my new room to be cleaned. The Belmond was an excellent place to setup home base for our wedding.

One of the top hotels in America!

The Belmond Charleston Place treated us extremely well! The hotel was lovely, and it earns every single one of its five stars. You can't top the location-most places were within a mile of the hotel, and the city market with crafts is pretty much across the street. The concierge can make restaurant reservations and give you a pre-printed card with directions to it. We were on the club level, and the day-long free food and drinks were wonderful. I really enjoyed a lobster mac and cheese, and they also had sushi and other foods--we ended up not even needing to go out for dinner a few nights because we filled up there. However, we did go to the Charleston Grill in the hotel for dinner one night; it was also exceptional. The saltwater pool on the fourth floor has a retractable roof and a nice patio with a bar. If you are going to Charleston, you should stay at the Belmond.

    Charleston in Belmond Club Level

Belmond provides a great location for visiting Charleston. We parked and were able to walk everywhere. The hotel is comfortable and provides the expected amenities such as spa, pool, and fitness center. Stay Club level. The food and beverage offerings were outstanding, plentiful, and available all day. Staff were excellent. With the Virtuoso benefits, our stay felt all inclusive. We highly recommend Belmond Charleston Place for a Charleston vacation.

We found the club level to be perfect for our recent five night stay, particularly since very rainy weather made going out to restaurants unattractive! The schedule for food and drink was workable. Quality and variety of food options very well done. Service was always stellar. The pool was suitable for morning lap swims and the spa is extensive, clean, and a great amenity.

    Wonderful Elegant Property

The hotel exceeded sll of our expectations, from the suite to the quality of service. Its central location makes it a great place from which to walk around one of America's most walkable cities. Its restaurant, The Charleston Grill, is worthy of at least one Michelin star (if only Michelin rated restaurants outside of NY, DC, Chicsgo, and California).
