About Us

Discover the style and vibe of today’s Japan with an 800-year-old ikeniwa (pond garden) at its heart. Intimate and contemporary, Four Seasons Hotel Kyoto is set in the scenic district of temples. Let us help you unlock the mysteries and capture the essence of Kyoto.

Kyoto, Japan’s former Imperial capital with more than one thousand years of exquisitely preserved history is home to two thousand temples and shrines, complete with authentic Japanese gardens and a kaleidoscope of festivals, ceremonies and rituals year-round. Seventeen are UNESCO World Heritage Sites, living evidence of golden age Japan. Yet, the city is also modern, pulsing with up-to-the-moment arts, design and culture.

Best of the Best

Set within an 800-year-old pond garden in Kyoto’s temple district, Higashiyama, Four Seasons Hotel Kyoto’s 123 luxury rooms and suites, and 57 residential suites – featuring open kitchens and the city’s largest in-suite entertaining spaces – are designed to maximize kutsurogi, the art of relaxation. Accessed by a glass bridge, the real stunner is the traditional tea house, Shakusui-tei, which hosts evening sake tastings. Sushi superstar Rei Masuda helms the Michelin-starred Sushi Wakon, serving Edo-style sushi at a 200-year-old cypress counter. Indulge at the spa, indoor pool, or fitness center after a long day of city exploring.

Hotel Tip

The clued-in, multilingual concierges can create such unique cultural encounters as a pottery class, maiko makeover, or Zen meditation session with a monk at the Shoden Eigen-in temple.

Our favorite hotel in the world

By: Sam B.

Reviewed on: 07 May 2019

What more to say than this: The Four Seasons Kyoto is our favorite hotel we've ever stayed at. Period. Let's start with the staff - they were incredibly kind, knowledgeable, and friendly. They even helped me with shipping jewelry back to the US that I accidentally left at the hotel! Next, let's talk about the property - it's stunning. It's appropriately secluded and feels like a place. The garden is magnificent and the facilities (spa, pool, and work out room) are amazing. Finally, let's talk about the food. The Brasserie was our FAVORITE restaurant in Kyoto. On each night, we came back from a great dinner to have another bite at the Brasserie - not because our dinners were bad but because the Brasserie was so, so good. The upstairs lounge by the lobby is tremendous and the mixed drinks are delicious. We can't recommend this hotel strongly enough. I wasn't sure if we should book it before we came but I can't imagine not staying here. Thank you to the hotel for an amazing trip!!
