About Us

Minaret Station is New Zealand’s finest luxurious Alpine Lodge set at the head of a picturesque glacial valley within the untouched landscapes and beauty of the Southern Alps. Access to Minaret Station is by helicopter only.

Minaret Station provides guests the opportunity to explore the wilderness of New Zealand’s South Island through many unique products including extensive helicopter touring to remote locations, as well as hiking, fishing and skiing, all by helicopter.

Minaret Station is owned and operated by the Wallis family, who have a lifelong affinity for the outdoors. They head a friendly and experienced team, passionate about delivering memorable experiences time and time again.

It is a uniquely integrated business dating back to the early 1960’s, when Sir Tim Wallis ('Hurricane Tim'), first began introducing international guests to New Zealand’s pristine wilderness. It has come a long way since the early beginnings but it remains a humble operation with a commitment to quality and service. More often than not, guests return year after year to partake in the seasonal offerings at Minaret Station.

Minaret Station is also a 50,000 acre working high country farm, nestled on the shores of Lake Wanaka, home to some 10000 deer, 7000 sheep and 1000 cattle raised for supply to premium export and domestic markets.

Helicopters have always been in the blood for the Wallis family. The company first began using helicopters in 1963 when they pioneered their use for backcountry access and heli-skiing. Our sister company Alpine Helicopters operate a modern fleet of helicopters with highly trained pilots, providing exclusive access and touring for our guests.

“We welcome you to visit us at Minaret Station. We pride ourselves on delivering genuine experiences that we take great pleasure in sharing”

Sustainability

Minaret Station are participating members of the Virtuoso Sustainability Summit. We have a strong commitment to sustainability and conservation. Electricity at Minaret Station is generated by our own hydro power scheme from a large waterfall behind the alpine lodge. Waste minimisation, as well as best practice recycling programs are implemented across the business. Much of the food that our chefs work with at Minaret Station comes from our own 50,000 high country farm, including lamb and venison. Our chefs work with local growers for all our other fresh ingredients. Conservation is a passion of our founding family, as well our team. We make significant investment every year into expanding our network of traps across the property to ensure that rodents are reduced, to ensure the long term sustainability of our native birds, as well as flora and fauna. We actively work with the New Zealand Department of Conservation, as well as with the National Parks & Conservation Foundation, to raise both funds and awareness of the importance of conservation projects in New Zealand.

Best of the Best

Helicopter-only access is the first clue that you’re in for an epic stay at Minaret Station Alpine Lodge. Adding to the body of exclusive experiences are all-inclusive gourmet meals and individually crafted itineraries that run the heli-adventure gamut. Touch down in an Alpine meadow for a picnic, or atop a peak, to bike or ski down; take a jet boat across remote lakes and fish for rainbow trout in crystalline rivers. Set at the head of a glacial valley within the Southern Alps, the lodge comprises four sheepskin-carpeted chalets with on-deck hot tubs; unwind in the main lodge’s cozy library and lounge.

Hotel Tip

Whilst many visitors to New Zealand have Milford Sound on their bucket list, Minaret Experience take guests further afield to explore untouched fiords and alpine lakes, away from the crowds.
