About Us

Pousada de Lisboa - Praça do Comércio, a place with a matchless historical personality and charm, from where the city expanded. After the 1755 earthquake, the Marquis of Pombal designed and rebuilt the entire square, including the building of the Pousada de Lisboa which was the former Ministry of the Interior.

Praça do Comércio is a key starting point to know and visit Lisbon and explore the city of the seven hills.

While the majestic golden façade hints at its grand past, it's the interior of Pousada de Lisboa that really wows. The contemporary restaurant RIB Beef & Wine is the ideal place to settle in for the evening with portuguese wines and the best selection of national and international DOP meat.

While the jewel in the hotel's crown is the magnificent ballroom. When it's time to head upstairs, you'll find rooms that are chic and contemporary, with grand windows giving far-reaching city views.

If you can draw yourself away from the calm of the courtyard, pool or spa, Lisbon's major sights are within easy reach. A gentle stroll in one direction will take you to the ancient cathedral or the Church of St Anthony. Or walking the other way could see you spending time in the hip surrounds of the Jerónimos Monastery.

Best of the Best

Portugal’s former Ministry of Internal Affairs carries out diplomacy with aplomb at Pousada de Lisboa. Even the most savvy cosmopolites are caught off guard by its stained glass–backed staircase and the collection of modern art pieces on loan from city museums. Lofty ceilings, dark parquet flooring, and relief plasterwork add an old-world touch to the 90 decidedly contemporary rooms. Taste Cecina and other signature steaks under the restaurant’s vaulted ceilings; the rooftop indoor pool and spa with a sauna elevate your stay.

Hotel Tip

The pousada’s main appeal just may be its prime address on the Praçado Comércio, fronted by the Tagus River. Sip espresso at nearby Café A Brasileira, Lisbon’s oldest café, dating from 1782.

Well situated. The GM very nice and dedicated. Came to talk to us since we had a hick up with the laundry service. The suite we were upgraded to was quite dark. Very poor lighting. Will not recommend that suite to anyone. Suite Dom Perignon.

We enjoyed our stay and found our accommodations to be generally good and staff were very pleasant and helpful. The hotel is well situated in proximity to the old town of Lisbon with many attractions, shops and restaurants in the area. Their signature restaurant, RIB, offered excellent food. The only minor issue is that , as a restored historical property, soundproofing between rooms is a little lacking and could be improved
