About Us

Purchased by Ted Turner in 1992, the Ladder Ranch is located in southcentral New Mexico and covers an incredible 156,439 acres (245 square miles).

Ladder Ranch contains four tributaries of the Rio Grande River – the Animas, Seco, Palomas and Cuchillo streams. These streams support abundant flora, including sycamores and cottonwoods, and fauna such as Chiricahua leopard frogs and sensitive Rio Grande cutthroat trout, which will be soon restored to the streams.

Undoubtedly, Ladder’s most distinguishing characteristics are its incredibly diverse and spectacular wildlife (bison, elk, deer, antelope, javelina, mountain lions, bears, etc.) and its magnificent mix of ecosystems, ranging from desert grasslands to pine forests in the foothills of the Black Range (Gila Mountains). It is due in large part to these defining elements that, upon launching Ted Turner Expeditions in 2015. The Ladder Ranch offers one of the most exclusive and unparalleled vacations you will ever experience.

Best of the Best

Ted Turner operates his empire by a simple motto, “Save Everything” — and once you lay eyes on Ladder Ranch, you’ll understand why. The conservationist has diligently preserved the diverse ecosystems comprising his 150,000-acre Ladder Ranch, in south-central New Mexico; the four tributaries of the Rio Grande that traverse the land support abundant flora and fauna, like historic bison. Turner’s five-bedroom family home features personal mementos; an on-site chef prepares meals to your taste. Expeditions are individually crafted and all activities are included in your stay.

Hotel Tip

The stargazing here is otherworldly; let the ranch arrange for a guest astronomer to guide you across the night skies.

Guest Rooms & Suites

Ladder Ranch House

Ted Turner’s Ladder Ranch house exudes the “authentic” Southwest, complete with Ted’s personal touches, representative of his countless experiences and adventures. Upon entering this five bedroom, three bathroom ranch house, you’re instantly taken by its luxuriously comfortable and unassuming ambience, characteristic of its longtime, devoted owner Ted Turner.

On its main floor are three bedrooms. The Master Bedroom, or Ted’s Room, is complete with a four-poster king bed and beautiful en suite bathroom with Ted’s personal study adjacently located. Also on the first floor is the spacious living room with four-tiered stacked stone, wood-burning fireplace and flat screen television, making it a superb space for absolute relaxation and memorable conversation. The remainder of the first floor is comprised of two queen bedrooms, a 1950’s retrofitted kitchen, designed by Ted Turner’s former wife, actress Jane Fonda, and an additional bathroom.

On the second floor of the house, you will find the textbook hideaway, with another queen bedroom and a separate room with three twin beds.
