We had a garden-view room, which was excellent - beautiful tranquil personal Japanese garden outside the large picture window with automated blinds and lighting effects. Excellent room layout - coffee and tea maker, nice large tub and shower, ample closet space, double vanities. Very nice full service (non-buffet) breakfast.

Stunning hotel, great service

Our stay at the RC Kyoto was excellent. We were first checked into a tiny room with no drawer space at all. After calling attention to this to the wonderful Simon, the Guest relations manager, he gave us a free upgrade to a much larger room with a better view! The staff was very helpful, knowledgeable, friendly, and kind. I highly recommend this hotel, but make sure to get a larger room if you have any luggage or plan to stay longer than one night.

Nothing special for a lot of $$

It paled in comparison to our previous hotel and it was more expensive. The staff was lovely and the accommodations were fine. The breakfast buffet was satisfactory. The gym and spa areas were great - but overall a little too pricey.

Solid 4 star but not 5 star

Not sure what are the other options in Kyoto so I recommend it as maybe the only hotel of its kind in the area. We arrived from Tokyo and had about 1 hour to check in, grab a bite and leave for our 2 PM tour. Told by the hotel that there was nothing we could eat there in an hour without a prior reservation! Absurd! After an argument, they packed us up rice balls and soft drinks to take with us to eat in our tour van. We had arrived from a hotel where upon check in we were offered drinks and a snack and given a tour of the hotel and briefed about its offerings. None of that at The Ritz Carlton, Kyoto! And we do normally love Ritz Carltons. The rooms were fine- nothing special- solid 4 star. Very clean though. We were 8 people- there with AMEX - 4 rooms- one with 3 people- and no upgrades. In Tokyo we were upgraded to a suite for the 3 people and it was perfect. Here, very tight. BUT they comped us at the bar and tried their best to make it up to us. Spa was wonderful!

Helpful concierge, beautiful property, slow food service

By: Kathy G

Reviewed on: 11 Nov 2019

The property and grounds are beautiful. We found the concierge service to be great in recommending restaurants. We took the bike tour to one of shrines early one morning and found it to be a very fun adventure! The service in the restaurants was a bit slow with apparently a lot of trainees and interns. If you want a Japanese breakfast, everyone in the group needs to eat in the Japanese restaurant and do the same. Ditto with a western breakfast and the western restaurant. However the food was wonderful in both places.
