About Us

How we came to be Originally inhabited by the coastal Miwok tribes, Horseshoe Cove became home to Fort Baker long before there was a Golden Gate Bridge. In 1866, the U.S. Army acquired the site for a military base to fortify the north side of the Golden Gate. The 24 buildings around the 10-acre parade ground at Fort Baker took shape between 1901 and 1915. The Army post remained active through World War II.
From Post to Park In 1973 Fort Baker was listed as a Historic District in the National Register of Historic Places. When the Golden Gate National Parks were established in 1972, Fort Baker was designated for transfer to the National Park Service when no longer needed by the military. In 2002 Fort Baker transferred officially from post to park.

We loved this lodge. We stayed in one of the historic officer's houses. The staff is fun and responsive, the accommodations are luxurious without being stuffy, and the views across the bay and back to the bridge are stunning. We ate in the Farley Bar - delicious and fun. We used the pool and spa - beautiful and relaxing. I highly recommend this hotel.

fabulous get away

We were given a night at Cavallo point by our daughter and son in law quite some time ago. We spent a fabulous night and found this inn to be one we will definitely return to. The inn keepers think of everything, from Brita water at bedside, outstanding bedding and linens, p.m. Wine tasting on the southern style porch, blankets for porch sitting taking in the golden gate view. There are 2 lovely dining establishments, one quite less formal than the other. We hiked above the golden gate to see the beautiful view. Wine, cheese and chocolates were provided in our suite. They even provided us with bedside earplugs. Fabulous!!! Saucilito town is just blocks away. We loved our stay, and will return for a longer visit. Thank you kids for opening our eyes to a new experience in a beautiful setting.

Comfortable Stay at a Very Cool Place

By: dogluvindds

Reviewed on: 02 Aug 2017

After a rough night of travel we arrived at this hotel and were met first by a huge buck in the road and a few coyotes on the lawn, then by a very friendly night manager at 3:30am. He quickly checked us in and helped us to our room in one of the old officers quarters. Very cool room with a mix of old styling and new furniture. Comfy bed too! Grounds were very nice as was the spa. Walking the grounds I noticed some old buildings marked with phone numbers to call to find out how they functioned on the old military base. Needless to say a lot went on in that place during times of war and the walking tour was very interesting. Views of the bridge were spectacular and it was an easy hike up to battery park for stunning views of the bridge and city. After nice hike had breakfast on restaurant porch complete with a blanket for my wife as the ocean breeze was quite cool. Great food and very accommodating staff. A great place to stay if you want access to SF and Marin cty. Highly recommended!

A complete getaway without having to go too far!

By: AliceC

Reviewed on: 14 Jan 2019

We've driven by this spot numerous times on visits to the area, but never had a chance to stay as it's only about 40 minutes from home. We are so glad we chose Cavallo Point for a little staycation, as it's just the right place for a quick getaway! We were greeted by Wine hour at check-in, a complimentary upgrade to a King suite with Golden Gate views, and had a lovely dinner at the on-site restaurant. Staff members were so friendly and welcoming, and the room was well-appointed with a comfortable soaking tub, gas fireplace, and a pull-out sofabed for our 6yr old. Walking distance from hiking trails and the Children's Discovery Museum, and a short drive to Crissy Field and all the SF has to offer, without having to be in the hubbub of the city. Very unique and varied spa and wellness offerings. We would definitely visit again when we feel the need to get away but don't want to travel too far.
