About Us

Enjoying a well-earned reputation as Washington, D.C.’s best boutique hotel, The Jefferson has presided over the corner of 16th and M Streets since 1923, when the Beaux Arts gem opened as apartments and later as a hotel for the world’s elite travelers and DC’s most important visitors.

Rich in historical details, this downtown Washington, D.C. hotel (four blocks from the White House) is both European and Washingtonian in style. Tributes to its namesake Thomas Jefferson and his beloved Monticello are found throughout. Areas of discovery unfold at every turn; private nooks, original Jefferson-signed documents, a Book Room filled with leather-bound volumes on Jefferson’s favorite subjects and signed editions by contemporary authors who have been among the hotel's distinguished guests.

Every member of the staff is dedicated to ensuring that each guest's stay is most enjoyable. The moment they arrive, guests are ushered to a comfortable chair for check-in. Individual needs are accommodated as when staying with a close friend at a private residence.

We hope you will join the new generation of “Jeffersonians” among our guests who make our hotel their home in downtown Washington, D.C.

Rooms & Suites

The elegant ambience of The Jefferson’s hotel rooms and suites evokes the hotel namesake’s cherished years in Paris as well as his time at Monticello. Extraordinary attention to detail conveys the sense that one is staying in a private residence. Here, you might find a book on Monticello on your side table, or perhaps a vintage copy of Goode’s Best Addresses.

Dining & Lounge

The Jefferson is one of Washington’s must-visit dining destinations. Plume, the only Forbes Five Star restaurant and also has been recognized with the highest Zagat rating in Washington, D.C., and the wine program has received Wine Spectator’s Best Of Award of Excellence. Quill, the hotel’s creative cocktail bar and lounge, offers classic grill and lighter fare. For breakfast, lunch, brunch and afternoon tea, enjoy The Greenhouse, where seasonal menus are inspired by the harvest from Jefferson’s kitchen gardens at Monticello.

Spa

The Petite Spa at The Jefferson offers an exclusive, enlightening experience in Washington, D.C.

This intimate setting caters to only a fortunate few at a time, with each visit custom-crafted to your own desires.

Our enticing menu offers massages, facials and body treatments as well as a specialized vinotherapy that reflects Thomas Jefferson's passion for wine. Select from our variety of salon services to ensure you look your very best for every occasion

Best of the Best

In homage to its namesake president, The Jefferson stands as the beaux arts belle of the United States capital. Detailed crown moldings, fine woodwork and frescoes of Monticello are found throughout, as are period antiques and Thomas Jefferson–signed documents. The 99-guestroom hotel features high-tech touches such as Smart TVs and in-mirror bathroom televisions. The restaurant Plume, having received five stars from Forbes and its first Michelin star, ranks among D.C.'s finest.

Hotel Tip

Upon entering Plume from the lobby, look up — the spectacular 1920s skylight was covered for decades until the 2009 refurbishments.

Exemplary Customer Service

By: Jameson1225

Reviewed on: 23 Apr 2015

We recently booked a trip to Washington DC with George Balogh. We stayed at The Jefferson Hotel. George was AMAZING to work with!! Not only did he arrange for all of the details for us, but he got us a great rate on the room, an upgrade to a higher level room on the top floor of the hotel with views of the monument and credits to use for drinks and dining!! George is a true professional. He was prompt with his responses to my emails and he took the term "customer service" to a whole new meaning for me. I am a pretty particular person with high expectations and he exceeded them on every level !!!! I have already used George again for an upcoming trip to Vegas, and as an avid traveler, I will use him for future trips as well. I couldn't have been happier with his services!!
