About Us

Welcome to Sofitel Legend The Grand Amsterdam, an historical site. In quite a unique manner, the history of Amsterdam is reflected in the past and present of this building.
Accommodations
Legendary Suites - Since 1578 The Grand has welcomed celebrated authors, actors, ambassadors and heads of state. Along with the Willem van Oranje and Willem de Vijfde Suites, the Maria de Medici Suite is a testament to the rich history of The Grand, with its Dutch contemporary architecture, wall paintings and 20th century décor.
Opera Suites & Suite Apartments - The three Opera Suites and sixteen Suite Appartments blend timeless elegance with the latest comfort and offer tasteful furnishing and modern amenities. All suites overlook the garden terrace and (75 SQM / 807 SQF) have an individual interior in restful natural colours like beige, lilac and off-white using natural materials such as mahogany, marble and robust steel.
Rooms & Suites - The rich history is, as naturally, incorporated into the new architectural details in many ways. The students of the Design Academy of Eindhoven used legendary persons from the history of the building as a source of inspiration: their creative contribution with historical influences is draped across the 177 rooms including 52 suites.
Room for people with a disability - The hotel has 1 room on the third floor of the main building specially designed for the requirements and comfort of disabled guests. This Superior Room is located close to the elevator for easy access.
Bars & Restaurant
Raw Bar - Holland';s first! From oysters, lobster sandwiches to delicate fish tartare everything is freshly prepared in front of your very own eyes. The Grand Ocean Platter is a hit with food lovers alike.
Cocktail Bar - Bridges'; futuristic Cocktail Bar & Lounge is the place to unwind with a Classic Cocktail or a glass of Gosset champagne. Located directly opposite the Raw Bar offers the perfect accompanying bites.
Lounge - During the day the lounge is the perfect spot to enjoy one of our many coffees, teas or small bites varying from salads to the typically Dutch ';bitterballen';.
Private Lounge - The Private Lounge provides an intimate setting for pre-dinner drinks. It is the perfect location to savour culinary delights and to relax.
Private Dining Room - For optimum privacy take advantage of the Private Dining experience, which caters for up to 12 people and provides pleasant views of the Vinothèque. The private Dining Room is a pleasant and comfortable place where guests can relax to their hearts'; content, enjoying a delicious cocktail and bites from the Raw Bar.
Vinotheque - The Vinothèque is the home of sommelier Hans Tuin. In this contemporary environment, located to the rear of the restaurant, he selects and samples his wines.
Garden Terrace - The Garden Terrace can be found in the beautiful and completely re-landscaped courtyard garden. It is one of Amsterdam';s best kept secrets. An oasis of peace and tranquility, away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
Library "Or" - The Library ';Or'; is situated in the beautiful lobby, located directly by the entrance to the hotel. Sybille de Margerie drew inspiration from the colours of typically Dutch elements, such as the dark-grey street stones known as ';klinkers'; and the deep, rich colours of the Amsterdam flower market. The Library ';Or'; has a rich collection of books about local culture, architecture and French savoir-faire.
Bar ';De Vliegende Hollander'; - A traditional Dutch brown café, serving an assortment of Dutch beers and snacks, alongside an extensive collection of whiskeys and spirits. Whether you read the newspapers over your daily cup of coffee, meet a friend for lunch or a quick bite, or imbibe a few beers after work, for many people their favorite bar inevitably becomes a home away from home.
Bridges Restaurant - This legendary location, once the canteen of the City Hall, is now a place where gourmands can enjoy the art of cooking by Dutch Chef Joris Bijdendijk. Spa & Relaxation
Ancient traditions from around the world meet the refinement and skill of the latest in French cosmetology to create So SPA: an exhilarating and rejuvenating experience.
Sofitel So SPA is the ideal place for business travelers looking to unwind or leisure travelers searching for a place to relax and pamper themselves over the weekend.

Best of the Best

Guests at Sofitel Legend The Grand Amsterdam are promised a sublime stay — and not simply because the building was formerly a 15th-century convent. Tucked in the city center along two of Amsterdam’s finest canals — Oudezijds Achterburgwal and Oudezijds Voorburgwal — this legendary hotel has been sleekly redesigned with 21st-century sensibilities. Each of the 177 spacious guestrooms possesses its own style, with exposed brick, bold damask and vibrant prints; suites offer Bose sound systems and butler service. Elegant, historic buildings with terrific staff, restaurant & location

By: Ralph S

My wife & I spend 2 nights at the hotel & could not have been happier.  We had a lovely room overlooking a canal & had dinner at Bridges on a crowded Friday evening before King's Day (26 April).  Our meal was one of the best ever with impeccable service; only the rose wine was a disappointment.  We toured the hotel with a customer service representative - well worth doing in this historic building that was originally two convents.   The hotel's staff was uniformly outstanding - friendly, warm, helpful.  The Concierge desk helped out quickly & thoroughly with several requests/questions.  The hotel's location is terrific for sightseeing.

The Sofitel Legend has it all. It offers elegance, luxury and a great canal location. The staff was outstanding, very friendly and responsive to our needs. The food was first rate; especially the breakfast buffet. The staff made us feel special from arrival to departure. We arrived on my birthday and was greeted by a bottle of complimentary champagne, a`delicious birthday cake and chocolate. We received an upgraded room overlooking the canal. Our visit to Amsterdam was amazing and the Sofitel was a major part of this experience.

Fabulous hotel

The Grand Amsterdam is a fabulous hotel. It is very comfortable and the staff is extremely friendly. It is a very old hotel but it is updated with the latest technology. The decor is very beautiful and not formal or stuffy. The breakfast is especially delicious and the staff is extremely attentive. The lovely dining room is on the canal with large windows. It would be better if the eggs and bacon were on the breakfast menu instead of having to order it. The rest of the hotels that we stayed in had eggs on their breakfast buffet, which is more convenient.

Sofitel Legend is truly a 5 star hotel. The staff are as friendly, helpful, attentive and courteous as they could possible be. The Concierge staff is amazing: patient, knowledgeable. They always have several on duty so there is no long wait. The restaurants serve excellent food. The breakfasts are great-try the Norwegian benedict. Again, the restaurant manager and wait staff were outstanding. The location is great for touring Amsterdam. Hotel is immaculate. We took the short guided tour, which discussed the hotel history (why it is entitled "legend") and showed some of the interesting parts of the hotel. Room service was outstanding, including a small surprise each evening.

Outstanding 5+ star hotel. First discovered Sofitel in NYC and love the French touch. The Amsterdam Sofitel is in a historic property renovated. My virtuoso travel agent suggested it and as usual she was right! We had 5 rooms with 11 in our party and each room was beautifully decorated. We had two of the apartments on the canal - spectacular. Could walk everywhere. Service impeccable - as much or as little as you wish.

The hotel was in the heart of everything. We walked a short distance to have great Chinese food and took a ride on a ferris wheel the first day. The breakfast served at the hotel was fabulous and included champagne . The staff went out of the way to to make arrangements at the Hermitage for hard to get tickets.
