About Banjaar Tola

Taj Safaris’ third jungle safari lodge is situated along the banks of the Banjaar River, directly overlooking the heart of Kanha National Park. The luxurious, yet lightweight, ensuite tents have been designed in a contemporary style, with pressed bamboo wall panels, gorgeous bamboo floors and locally crafted furniture hewn from the timber of exotic Indian trees. The atmosphere is light, ethereal and organic. The lodge boasts two elegant camps of nine suites, each with its own intimate tented sitting area.

About Kanha National Park

Kanha is one of India’s largest national parks. In 1973, when Project Tiger was launched to save the tiger, Kanha was one of the nine reserves selected for the project. It is prime tiger country and is the project’s star success story. Herds of animals are found in the central parklands, where approximately 22 animal species are regularly spotted. Kanha is home to the highly endangered deer, the hardground barasingha, as well as sambar, chital and gaur. Kanha features approximately 70 tree species and is a bird watcher’s paradise, with over 200 recorded bird species.

Guest Accommodation

The tented guest suites at Banjaar Tola are set along the banks of the Banjaar River, overlooking the core area of Kanha National Park. Designed with a light footprint to protect the surrounding riverine environment, the 18 tented suites are set on raised platforms supported at only seven points on the ground. Wide glass doors open onto private decks overlooking the river, offering panoramic views of the wilderness beyond. Pressed bamboo floors and wall panels combine with fabrics in delicate tones of bleached saffron, forest green and earthy cinnamon to create a light and airy atmosphere. Raw timber furniture, canvas wardrobes, leather detailing and handcrafted furniture made from fallen trees and driftwood give a glamorous camping feel.

Guest Areas

Bastar metal work, hand-printed cloth and intricate stone carvings scattered throughout the camp represent the work of scores of talented artisans. The comfortable guest sitting area is filled with the handicrafts of nearby Chattisgarh, from bastar bell metal structures to tribal metal work. The guest dining and sitting area also features a small interpretive library, crammed full of fascinating information on the region and its wildlife. Guests can browse peacefully in the well-stocked Safari Shop or idle away the hours by the lodge swimming pool. Delicious Indian fare is served on the spacious dining decks, with dramatic river views or in the heart of the sal forest.

Best of the Best

Set amidst 100 acres of private jungle, Banjaar Tola is a luxurious, boutique lodge overlooking Kanha National Park. Stay in one of 18 tented suites perched on the banks of the Banjaar River. All feature bamboo floors, canvas roofs and walls, and glass doors leading out onto a floating veranda with stunning views of the forest and the river. Dining experiences include private in-room and out in the jungle with the dance of the Baiga tribe providing entertainment. Spend your days on twice-daily safaris conducted by trained naturalists looking for tigers, leopards, wild dogs and other mammals, along with more than 320 bird species.

Hotel Tip

Immerse yourself by going on a guided nature walk, a visit to a tribal village to see an ancient way of life or looking for bargains in the quaint weekly market.
