About Us

A small Alpine village, long a favored mountain destination in both winter and summer, welcomes it’snewest luxury hotel.Crowning Gstaad';s exclusive hilltop area of Oberbort, just five minutes from the center of the village, The Alpina Gstaad overlooks beautiful Saanenland in the heart of the Bernese Alps.It is the first luxury hotel to be built in Gstaad in 100 years.
Set on five acres, the five-star property is part of a $337 million luxury development includes private apartments within the hotel and two chalets. The Alpina Gstaad is a contemporary interpretation of traditional Swiss architecture incorporating authentic local materials and time-honored Alpine style.Massive blocks of Ringgenberg limestone, the rich brown stone from local quarries, have been hand carved for the entrance and ground floor.Hundred-year-old fir wood, gathered from old Alpine farm houses, decorates the facade and lines the walls of the public rooms. The gabled roof, embellished with dormers and peaks, is of natural slate. The ground floor';s huge windows allow for plenty of natural light and stunning views of the surrounding mountains.
Guests arrive at the main gate and descend into a covered drive enroute to a subterranean entrance.A monumental entryway of natural stone with waterfalls and a skylight is designed to ensure that the sights, sounds and scents of nature will be part of the welcoming experience.
Accommodations The Alpina Gstaad is the first completely new five-star hotel in Gstaad to open in this traditional Swiss village for more than a century - a stately address built in the local style with fresh and modern textures layered upon antique woods. It is a place where authenticity meets Swiss luxury, our commitment to the true Gstaad showing in every turn of the chisel, in the hewing of stone, wood carving and authentic leatherwork by local craftsmen. This sense of place includes spectacular mountain views from our 56 rooms and suites - all with balconies - ranging from 333 square feet for a standard room to 4,305 square feet for the Panorama Suite.
Six Senses Spa Six Senses Spa at The Alpina Gstaad is a holistic spa destination informed by Asian wellness traditions, which are offered alongside locally inspired Swiss Alpine treatments. The nurturing environment encourages a spa journey centered.
Subscribing to the Six Senses Spa philosophy of ‘Balancing Senses’, the 2000sq m space has a natural feel with curved walls, water features, timbers and wells of sunshine, while the outdoor pool makes the most of our Alpine location, the water reflecting the peaks beyond.
Gastronomy Dining at The Alpina Gstaad draws upon authentic Swiss traditions in food and wine combined with modernist cooking techniques and creative presentations. Every restaurant features a selection of signature dishes and tasting menus, alongside some all-time classics.
All restaurants share a single floor of the hotel with floor-to-ceiling glass doors flowing onto an outdoor terrace. The terrace has fire-pits burning on winter days and summer nights, and is surrounded by our Jean Mus-designed garden and the Alpine peaks.
Megu- Our modern Japanese cuisine introduces a new style of dining to Gstaad and the Bernese Oberland. Megu at The Alpina Gstaad is the first European location of the celebrated Megu concept, with its flagship in New York.
Restaurant Sommet- The Restaurant Sommet at The Alpina Gstaad is all about casual, convivial fine dining with family and friends where you can enjoy creative all-day menus, some of the best steaks in town and a unique tasting menu by our famed chef. Our wine selection with 400 labels of hand-picked rarities from around the world will please the connoisseur.
Swiss Stubli - At the Swiss Stübli, our Swiss restaurant, you enter the very heart of our commitment to the local region with a quintessential Alpine experience that feels at once chic and convivial. After a day hiking or skiing in the mountains, there is nowhere better to indulge on the country';s delicacies.Classic dishes from all over Switzerland are re-interpreted and presented with a contemporary twist, while a cosy ambience is afforded by antique timber panels and elegant carving. This makes for a rustic place to enjoy a classic raclette or fondue.
Alpina Lounge & Bar- The Alpina Lounge & Bar encapsulates the energy of our breathtaking location. An entire exterior wall of floor-to-ceiling windows connects the space to the terrace outside. It’s as if you’re sitting in the mountain bowl itself, with a fireplace and bar to one side.
Wine Cellar - Our Wine Room at The Alpina Gstaad is designed as if it might belong to an elegant private home in the Alps. Here groups of friends and wine lovers can be entertained in convivial style while enjoying fine vintages - including many of Swiss provenance.
Cigar Lounge- The handsome masculinity of the Cigar Lounge at The Alpina Gstaad is based on one of Havana’s most famous establishments. Chic, 1930s glamour is reflected in the warm colour palette, while the cigar selection is for true aficionados. The walk-in humidor features a selection of over 50 cigars.
Quality Time Today the true Gstaad is a place where those who embrace life’s fast pace can find the space to slow down. Located in Saanenland, this is a traditional village where artisans retain their classic skills and farmers live off the Alpine pastures.
Yet for all this tradition, Gstaad has excellent modern rail and road connections to Switzerland’s international airports of Geneva, Zurich and Bern. Saanen airport for small planes and helicopters is just a 10-minute drive from our hotel.
Gstaad is small enough to walk, with The Alpina Gstaad located a 10-minute walk from the main street, The Promenade. We have easy access to the mountains for sport in winter and summer, as well as proximity to nearby villages in the wider Saanenland.
Winter & Spring - Many people come to Gstaad for the skiing, the region offering something for all levels and abilities. But even in winter Gstaad is not defined by its slopes alone, with numerous alternative activities, from ice-skating to horse-drawn sleigh rides. Shuttle services to and from nearby ski-lifts, sale of ski passes and arrangement of skiing instructors or mountain guides are part of our services at The Alpina Gstaad. Equipment rental is available at the Lorenz Bach ski shop, located in our hotel.
Summer & Fall- With its 11 mountain railways, 300kms of hiking trails and 500kms of routes for mountain biking, the Gstaad-Saanenland region offers the very best of Switzerland for outdoor sports enthusiasts. From an adrenaline-fuelled descent by mountain bike to an Alpine paraglider flight, from a family hiking tour to a contemplative afternoon on the sun terrace of one of the high mountain huts - the region offers endless possibilities to relax and revitalize.
Families- Family activities in Gstaad are very popular winter and summer. The Alpina Gstaad can provide private nannies and activities at our Kids Club as well as instructors, ski schools and outdoor summer activities suitable for different ages.
Please be informed that Geneva Airport (GVA) is the nearest international airport to The Alpina Gstaad.

Best of the Best

It’s been 100 years since a luxury resort was built in this glitzy chalet village, but The Alpina Gstaad was worth the wait. A colossal, subterranean entryway with waterfalls and hand-cut limestone leads to the 56-guestroom hotel, which takes a modern twist on traditional Swiss architecture. Set on five acres in the heart of the Bernese Alps, The Alpina uses natural slate, recycled century-old fir and walls of windows to connect you with nature. Ease mind and body at the holistic spa, or relax with a Cohiba in the cigar room. You’ll find three restaurants and alpine activities year-round.

Hotel Tip

The two-story Panorama Suite has its own private spa with outdoor Jacuzzi and fireplace.

Incredible Property!!

By: Rod

Reviewed on: 27 Sep 2017

This property was probably the nicest we have ever stayed in. The room, view and the overall hotel was amazing. Furthermore, we were upgraded at least one level if not several levels on arrival and our room and the balcony had the most incredible views. We also were able to enjoy the spa and it was first class as well. We would highly recommend this hotel to others.
