Finland is a distinct slice of Scandinavia, which we discover on a sightseeing drive through the country’s capital. View such iconic landmarks as the waterfront Market Square, golden-domed Uspenski Orthodox Cathedral, and neoclassical Presidential Palace, stopping for photos in Senate Square, Helsinki’s main plaza since the 17th century. Continue past the dynamic Finlandia Hall and Kiasma museum on our way to Porvoo, Finland’s second-oldest city, for a walking tour. Dating back to 1346, Porvoo’s cobblestone streets are lined with brightly painted, medieval wooden buildings; spend some time exploring on your own before we head to lunch at Nybergs Varpet, a summer villa overlooking the Baltic Sea. Dine on toast skagen (open-faced shrimp sandwich), grilled salmon, and berry pie before relaxing or taking a stroll to soak in the pretty views across the Finnish archipelago. On our return to Helsinki we stop at the unique Temppeliaukio or Rock Church, carved directly into the solid rock.

Suggested Attire/Walking Notes: Casual attire with comfortable walking shoes. Approximately 1 mile of moderate walking over uneven terrain with some steps. Not suitable for wheelchairs or strollers.

Experience one of the most famous museums in the world today with your expert guide who will meet you at your ship and accompany you to the awe-inspiring Hermitage, housed in the lavishly-decorated Winter Palace. The Hermitage occupies six magnificent buildings and houses 3 million pieces of artwork from the Stone Age to modern times. The main building and largest part of the museum is the rococo-style Winter Palace, residence of the Tsars from 1762 to 1917. The museum was commissioned by Catherine the Great and she and her successors built the Hermitage collection in large part with purchases from the private collections of the Western European aristocracy and monarchy. By the time Nicholas II ascended the throne in 1894, he was heir to the greatest collection of art in Europe! The whole museum complex was bombarded during the siege of Leningrad in WWII but re-opened to the public in 1945.

Private Car and Driver: Highlights of St. Petersburg - 2020 ( 4 Hours )

09 Jul 2020 | St. Petersburg, Russia

This option is only available if selected and pre-registered by your Virtuoso Travel Advisor by 21 May 2020.

Meet your guide at the pier to begin your half-day drive through the historical city center, seeing highlights such as Nevsky Prospect, Palace Square, the Winter Palace, the Admiralty and Vasilevsky Island. Visit the fascinating Peter & Paul Fortress, which Peter the Great built in 1703 to provide protection from the Swedes. The Fortress Cathedral is the burial place of most of Russia's Tsars and Tsarinas from the eighteenth century onwards, including Peter the Great himself, the great architect of St Petersburg. Continue to the Church of the Resurrection of Christ (more familiarly known as the Church of the Saviour on Spilled Blood), a superb example of Russian architecture and decorative art from the end of the nineteenth century. The church was built on the spot where Alexander II was fatally wounded in 1881, hence the more commonly used name! Afterwards visit St. Isaac's Cathedral, whose gilded dome dominates the city skyline. The cathedral's construction began in 1818 and was not completed until 1858. Sculptures and massive red granite columns ornament the façade, while the interior is even more lavishly decorated with mosaics, icons and columns of malachite and lapis lazuli.

Please note: Church of the Saviour on Spilled Blood & St. Isaac's Cathedral are closed on Wednesdays.

STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN – Luxury Escape for Two, from Art to Archipelago in Style

Often referred to as “beauty on water”, Stockholm is built on 14 islands connected by 57 bridges on Lake Mälaren. Technically the area spreads 50 miles (80 km) east from the city into the Baltic Sea. This is known as the Stockholm archipelago – a cluster of some 30,000 islands, skerries and rocks.

Stockholm intertwines the old and the new to create a rich blend of culture, history, and modern, sustainable lifestyles. The city and its surroundings offer a wealth of things to do year-round and it is an easy place to navigate. It’s a pleasure to experience the city on foot, by bike and especially from the water, which is never far away.

For this 3-night getaway in Stockholm, you will be staying in one of Scandinavia’s most unique and exclusive properties. Ett Hem is a restored 1910 Arts and Crafts townhouse with 12 rooms. Both the public spaces and guest rooms boast an eclectic-elegant décor, with a mix of vintage and contemporary furnishings, pieces from the owner’s private art and photography collections adorning the walls. At any moment during your stay, you can grab a drink from the fridge, take the dog for a walk, borrow the car – at Ett Hem (meaning “a home”), guests are encouraged to act as if they’re at home.

During your stay in Stockholm, you will explore the Swedish capital accompanied by a private driver and private guide. Your guide will be flexible to your wishes on the day and can adapt the touring accordingly. The next day you will explore the beautiful Stockholm Archipelago on a private RIB (zodiac boat) tour. It is an incredible way to see the archipelago and its unique landscape of islands and water. You will be brought through the picturesque Stockholm Archipelago to the outer archipelago. Here, the nature is more barren and has a sense of untouched wilderness.

Day 1: Arrive Stockholm

Upon your arrival to Stockholm a private driver will meet you at the airport and bring you to your home for the next 3 nights; Ett Hem.

Day 2: Explore the Swedish Capital

Today you will explore Stockholm together with your private driver and private guide. Your guide will be flexible to your wishes on the day and can adapt the touring accordingly. Amongst the highlights are Gamla Stan (The Old Town), with one of the best-preserved medieval city centers in the world, and the Vasa Museum, dedicated to the history of an impressive 16th century war ship which capsized less than an hour into her maiden voyage.

Day 3: Adventure in Stockholm Archipelago

Today you will embark on a private RIB (zodiac boat) tour of the Stockholm Archipelago. This is an incredible way to see the archipelago and its unique landscape of islands and water. You will be brought through the picturesque Stockholm Archipelago to the outer archipelago where the nature is more barren and has a sense of untouched wilderness.

Day 4: Depart Stockholm

After breakfast and check-out, a private driver will bring you to the airport for your journey home.
