D’Urville Island Indulgence

D’Urville Island is truly one of New Zealand’s best kept secrets. Discovered by French explorer Jules Dumont D’Urville, the island is located off the Northern coast of the South Island with an area of approximately 150 square km. It is the eighth-largest island of New Zealand, and has around 52 permanent residents. A perfect destination for exploring.

Departing out of Nelson we follow Tasman Bays eastern coast line before arriving on the western side of D’Urville Island for a spot of reef fishing. Once we have a catch we then hop across to the Eastern side of the island for the freshest fish you will ever eat, expertly prepared by your Pilot/Guide!

In the afternoon we track further east into Marlborough’s vast wine growing area. Landing at Hans Herzog Estate near the Wairau River we enjoy a tour of the winery and wine tastings. We have the option of dessert and coffee while on the ground. Our flight home to Nelson tracks via the Mt Richmond Forest Park with a mountain landing.

Abel Tasman National Park, Wine in the Wilderness

Wine in the Wilderness is a fascinating day journey that highlights and showcases the very reasons we love this region.

On collection from your accommodation by your Guide for the day, the scenic journey starts immediately as you travel to the first of two wineries to meet the wonderful wine creators and gain an appreciation of this renowned wine region, the elements of terroir and the personalities and philosophies of the locals.

On to the beautiful Kaiteriteri beach to board your private boat to be transported to a stunning yet remote golden sand bay in Abel Tasman National Park for a gourmet lunch of fine, fresh local products. Unique wildlife can be seen along the way, including native bird life and the inquisitive New Zealand Fur Seal.

After lunch your hosts guide you on a short walk into the park and will delight you with historic tales and interesting stories of the diverse collection of native plants and their uses. From easily accessible vantage points marvel at the stunning emerald water colours as tide moves over the rich golden sands. Hidden estuaries surrounded by bush and bay after golden bay may be revealed to highlight the true essence of New Zealand’s most popular coastal national park.

Returning to the beach it becomes real relaxation time to taste the very best of local wine varieties matched with the finest local produce that may include hot smoked salmon, mussels, venison, cheese or scallops. The hardest part is leaving this idyllic place to be returned to your accommodation.
