Half Day Constantia Winelands

A perfect chance for wine lovers to discover some of the finest wines South Africa has to offer.

The Constantia Winelands is a spectacular wine experience, taking you to a unique combination of century-old, established wine farms and new boutique estates in a setting of unsurpassed beauty and heritage.

What to expect

Departing from Cape Town, this tour heads south along the Peninsula towards Constantia, taking in spectacular views along the way. When you arrive, you’ll enjoy a tour of the famous Constantia wine ward, nestled on the southern slopes of the Table Mountain range, in the Constantia Valley.

The historic valley, with vineyards rooted in ancient soil clinging to the eastern slopes of the Constantiaberg Mountains, was home to 17th-century Dutch governor, Simon van der Stel's wine farm. Its legendary dessert wines graced the tables of the European monarchy in the 18th century. The vines benefit from the cool sea breezes blowing in from False Bay and the 1,000mm of annual rain which makes irrigation unnecessary.

Today it is home to a number of award-winning wine estates which continue the tradition of producing wines from classic European noble varieties. It is a great escape from the hustle and bustle of modern city life in a magnificent, mountainous countryside. Stroll through the beautiful grounds whilst tasting wines produced just a short walk away, or meander through the rolling vineyards on your bicycle, learning first hand about the various vintages.

The area is celebrated for its Sauvignon Blancs, Semillons and Chardonnays, from the Steenberg, Constantia Uitsig and Buitenverwachting estates. However, wonderful Merlots, Cabernet, Shiraz and red blends in classic Bordeaux styles are also made at Groot Constantia, Klein Constantia and High Constantia. The area's famed signature wine, however, is still the exquisite Vin de Constance from Klein Constantia. This is a world class destination not to be missed.

Sleep Easy…

Our guides are top adventurers in their own right, and focused on creating a day that is purely for your enjoyment. Your Private Cape Adventure unfolds at your own pace – if you feel uneasy about anything, please talk to your guide.

The weather is our compass and your enthusiasm our wrist watch

We plan each adventure according to your interests. Our Cape weather can change at a moment’s notice, and this is where we use our knowledge of hidden spots and local conditions to make the most of each day, no matter what is thrown at us.

Likewise, should we find ourselves having so much fun that we do not want to drag ourselves away, the day’s plans can be changed at the drop of a hat! No two tours are the same.

What is provided?

During activities we supply energy snacks and refreshments.

Between activities more substantial treats from our gourmet pantry are on offer.

Chilled wine, beer, ice teas, chilled waters and G&T’s are also on board.

What to expect

Situated in a rural and mountainous setting on the slopes of Table Mountain, although close to the city, you feel a world away.

The farms vary greatly and no farm is more than 5 or 10 minutes from the next with many linked by cycle and hiking tracks. This maximises time out exploring, so if a lot of your holiday has been in a 4x4 safari vehicle or sightseeing around Cape Town, this allows for a day mostly spent on the farms and not in a vehicle.

To get a perspective on the valley this adventure starts at Eagles Nest, located high on the slopes of Table Mountain. We will break into the valley, by stretching our legs and enjoying some gentle hiking amongst the vineyards on the slopes of Constantia valley.

For a sense of history we’ll pay a visit to Constantia Glen before heading to Steenberg wine estate, to take part in a privately guided Terroir Walk on the which will give you a better understanding of the land and the wine making process which the farm adopts in an environmentally considerate farming practice as far as possible.

We will then head up over the Mountain to the Silvermine Nature Reserve. A real gem mostly frequented by locals getting away from the city's hustle and bustle. Enjoy the tranquil setting, take a refreshing dip in the dam and time allowing, go for a hike on one of the many trails in this reserve. We will have packed a delicious gourmet picnic for your lunch which you can enjoy here.

After your leisurely lunch stop, we will head to Noordhoek, a quaint village overlooking an expansive white sandy beach. Enjoy a wine tasting at the Cape Point Vineyards with commanding views of the region.

You will then head over Chapman’s Peak Drive with its 114 curves skirting the rocky coastline linking Noordhoek with Hout Bay, this 9km route is the most famous coastal road in South Africa and is renowned as being one of the most spectacular routes in the world.

We will visit Llandudno Beach, the most beautiful beach in Cape Town for sundowners before heading back to base.
