Excursion to Pompeii (5 hours)

Starting from your hotel, set out to visit the ruins of Pompeii. Upon arrival at the park, you will be met by a local guide for your private tour of the ruins (entrance fees paid locally).

Pompeii holds an intense fascination for visitors today. Following the eruption of the volcano Mount Vesuvius in the year 79 A.D., Pompeii lay buried and forgotten for hundreds of years. The town is high on the list of the Wonders of the World and the excavations begun in the 18th Century are still being carried out today. Our guide will take you slowly through some of the ancient streets of Pompeii where you can see Baths, Forums and Villas built by the prosperous Romans in the year 80 B.C. Marvel at the fabulously preserved Frescos which adorned the walls and floors of the Villas. Even if your interests do not lie in history, this is an archeological site that cannot fail to impress you.

Half Day (5 hours) Shore Excursion from Naples to Pompeii

Upon arriving at the port of Naples and disembarking from your ship, meet one of our drivers for your half-day excursion to the ancient city of Pompeii, where you will meet our guide for a private 2.5 hour tour of the ruins. The destruction of Pompeii occurred on August 24, 79 A.D. when the erupting Mount Vesuvius covered the town with a layer of ash and pumice nearly 7 meters thick, entombing Pompeii and the majority of its inhabitants. The speed with which the town was engulfed has left it a remarkably well preserved example of daily life in Ancient Rome. Upon exploring and discovering Pompeii with your guide, you will get a more immediate and vivid impression of ancient life - in luxurious mansions and more modest houses, in the markets and the streets, in baths, theaters and temples, than on any other ancient site, and much of what you see will strike you as astonishingly modern.

At the conclusion of your tour, your driver will transfer you back to Naples to reunite with your ship.

Upon arriving in Pompeii, you will meet one of our knowledgeable guides for a private 2-hour tour of the ruins. After finishing your guided tour in Pompeii, you will proceed to Sorrento. Here you will have free time to explore the town at your discretion, during which your driver can make sightseeing and dining suggestions. Regally lying between the gulf of Naples in the north and Salerno in the south, the Sorrentine Peninsula is a promontory of a thousand shades – brilliant hues and delicate reflections that depend on the changing seasons. A famous holiday destination since the time of the Romans, Sorrento has long been renowned for its extraordinarily mild climate. As you walk through its streets you will undoubtedly see the influence of the past nearly everywhere you look, in the remnants of the Greek defensive wall, the city’s Cathedral, the Basilica of Saint Antonio, and the Correale and Veniero Palaces.

At the conclusion of your day of touring, your driver will transfer you back to Naples to reunite with your ship.

Full Day (8 hours) Amalfi Drive Shore Excursion

The "Amalfi Drive" is said to be the most spectacular road in Europe and from Sorrento, the winding cliff top road offers breathtaking panoramic views at every bend. Each spot is a world of its own, a fantastic world which dazzles the imagination and inspires unforgettable impressions.

Then on to Amalfi, which gives its name to the whole coast on which it lies. Once a thriving Marine Republic, powerful and prosperous and now a thriving holiday resort. The unmistakable cluster of white tightly packed houses rising up the hillside is dominated by the beautiful Cathedral, which stands superbly on the top of a great flight of steps leading up from the main square. Housed in the magnificent Cathedral are the remains of the Patron Saint of Amalfi and also Scotland – Saint Andrew.

From Amalfi we visit Ravello, which nestles eleven hundred feet above the sea in the hillside. We visit the Villa Rufolo, which gave the musician Richard Wagner the inspiration to create one of his most famous operas, Parsifal. Enjoy the views as you return to the port to board the ship.
