Bustling Bergen and a Private Island Lunch - Bergen - 2019 ( 5 Hours 15 Minutes )
Bergen, Norway | 01 Aug 2019

  • Meals: Lunch
  • Recommended Ages: All Ages
  • Activity Level: Moderate
  • Experience(s): Food & Wine • Culture, History & Arts • Sightseeing

Our day’s adventure begins in Skuteviken, the smallest and oldest area of Bergen. We’ll take a short walking tour, passing by charming traditional wooden homes dating back to the 1700s. From here we’ll transfer to the center of Bergen, stopping at colorful Bryggen, a 900-year-old wharf and UNESCO World Heritage Site. We’ll walk to the Fish Market, a lively spot at the heart of the city for the last 500 years, and offering pristine fresh seafood as well as fruit, flowers, and other fun takeaways.

We’ll rejoin our coach for a 15-minute drive to the small village of Alvoen, where a private boat will be waiting to take us to the island of Holmen, approximately 10 minutes away. This tiny island is home to one of Norway’s best seafood restaurants, Cornelius (it’s the only building on the island). We will be welcomed with an aperitif at the docks, and learn how this deserted-island restaurant came to be. We’ll dine on whatever the sea offers that day, paired with vintages poured by the sommelier. After lunch we will sail back to Alvoen and return by coach to the ship.

Suggested Attire/Walking Notes: Casual attire and comfortable walking shoes. Warm outwear/layers suggested for the open boat to Holman Island. Guests will step on and off the boat several times; depending on high or low tide, this can be steep and challenging.
